Sorry, I don't agree. There is past history on this and you are off the rails. This is a full RFA season with a little more value with the sign/trade.

Go try it with another team and see how far that gets you. Ask them if a sign/trade where he signs for 8 years increases his value as a 8 year contract. Good luck.

You're now not debating against Habs fans. You're going against the general norm and history is against you.
Um, no. A player who is under contract for 8 years has the value of a player who is under contract for 8 years.

If teams were not allowed to talk to PLD before the trade to iron out a contract, you'd be correct. It would be like Horvat

But it's not

Dubois is not "much better" than Horvat. Disagree. You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. They are similar talent IMO. It's close one way or another and trying to create a gap is reaching. Horvat is at 0.67 pts/game and Dubois is at 0.70 pts/game. Wow, what a gap in value eh?

IOW PLD is better offensively. He's also younger and better at nearly every other aspect of the game as well.

PLD is also a very good defensive player Horvat is below average
PLD plays a physical game Horvat doesn't
Last year PLD drew the 4th most penalties of any forward in the NHL, Horvat was 167th
PLD average Goals Above Replacement over his career is 10.3, Horvat is 5.3.
PLD has yet to enter his prime years while Horvat is nearing the end of his.

To be fair its a Jets beat writer than said that Suzuki, Caufield and Dach were off-limits and that was confirmed by multiple Habs beat writer.

For what its worth, the same Jets writer also said Byfield isn’t going anywhere and he doesn’t expect Vilardi to move as well.
Which jets writer is that?

Dubois wants a 8 or 9 million raise ? the Jets should wait for a team to offer sheet Dubois and take the compensation.

Justin Barron? Off limits. Logan Mailloux? Off limits. Owen Beck? Maybe, but he's like a top 20 pick himself, so take out everything else of value.

Murat had literally just came off a vacation and was speculating Dach is (rightly) untouchable. He hasn't actually heard anything other than what we've all heard and assume that Dach isn't available. Great writer of Jets content but he has no inside information on the Jets, let alone the Habs.

I don't think it even needs to be stated Caufield and Suzuki aren't going anywhere

Plenty of us have said Florida's 1st + Barron + would work, but apparently Barron is untouchable too.

Really? that's odd considering how much I've seen you post in this thread..
Most Habs fans want PLD.

But they want him for cheap... and most will be upset when he is either traded to another team or traded to Montreal for a king's ransom.

I still hope he comes to Montreal, but I don't really want to pay him 9m

I'd do it but I'm kind of a Barron hater. It would just mean we're drafting Reinbacher at 5 which would be pretty meh

the funny thing about the Dubois situation is that yes, he's a Montrealer and spends his offseason here, he's also accessible to watch in that 3 on 3 pro summer league here.
But none of us can remember ever seeing him out and about so much on social media. He was at suburban event for a haitian fundraiser four days ago, then he's at the Grand prix partying then on a boat near the track with caufield, hughes and Zegras, then they're having martinis downtown on Subban's twitter account. lol.
it's just funny and strange.
Brisson knows what he's doing
Hughes and Zegras getting traded to Montreal. E5. :sarcasm:

Indeed. Habs need RHD and Barron played like a solid young #4 at the end of the season.

1st + Barron would mean Habs pay nore for PLD than NYI paid for Horvat which won't happen.

Ya but there are multiple Jets GMs also telling us what they will except. Good to know they are sitting in the front office while they are typing in here.

We can state what the teams needs are, and what they've stated.

1. They don't need LD and W.

2. They need to add C and RD.

3. They've made it clear through their puppets they're retooling and not rebuilding. They're looking for young players with team control, or good players with term.*

4. Brisson has said they're open to signing with multiple teams.

That's it. I'm fine with a futures package from Montreal, I think it'd be cool to unite the Barron Bros, I'd be happier with a more NHL ready C from LA or somewhere else than a RD that might not get ice time behind the #vets. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, just like proclaiming you don't want to pay anything for him.

* I'm sure they'll take cap back to make it work, but someone like Dvorak isn't going to be the centerpiece of a trade, he'd be an NHL player to make your cap work.

for a reasonable deal and cap hit sure...

for the payment Jets fans are expecting and 9ish million aav.....no thanks. Let The Kings have him....

His value is as an 8 year player, because that's what the team he's being traded to will be

No it's not.

A team wanting to trade a player signed for 8 years can negociate and start a bidding war with 31 other teams.

A team wanting to do a sign and trade can only start a bidding war between the teams where the player agrees to sign for 8 years. And that's the part we don’t know. If Dubois is only willing to sign with 5 teams, the bidding war won't be as intense. If it’s only 2 teams, it's even less a factor. And if he's made his mind about one team, then there's no bidding war. Unless a team is willing to overpay for one year of Dubois, in hopes he will change his mind in the course of the year, which would be a pretty stupid way to manage your team.

That's fine now tell us what it would take from LA ?
Would also like to see if LA is willing to move what your asking for?
I'm just curious. I like to see where all 3 teams stand.

I haven't asked for anything from LA, I'm basing my comment on their reported GM comments to the Jets which was "we're in this, we will make it work" which certainly sounds like a GM who wants to be reasonable and make a offer that's going to beat all other offers and not just low ball offer or kicking tires. We have no idea what the Habs have offered either, my only comments has been the Habs are going to have a hard time making a competitive offer if the Jets truly want win now type of pieces more so then futures/magic beans. Reason being is the habs have no decent or valuable win now pieces, they have a few kids they are building around and a bunch of futures. Habs could make a stronger futures based offer then they can a win now type of offer.......I can't imagine any Habs fans would argue that point.

To-date we've gotten zero confirmation on what any teams have offered or asked for in return. But we're going to find out very shortly what the best offer was.

That has nothing to do with his term

Yes, the lack of teams involved hurts his value, but that's a separate issue

At the same time, it only takes 2 teams to have a bidding war if they're the right teams

Um, no. A player who is under contract for 8 years has the value of a player who is under contract for 8 years.
Still is funny how you discard Severson signed 8y worth only a 3rd, understand context to UFA, but not in Dubois' case. He will not sign nor play for the Jets either... I am not saying he is worth a 3rd, and we agreed on a trade value earlier, but I am saying you are not getting Dubois value, because he is 1y away from UFA. Even signed for 8y. Like Severson signed 8y is not worth a 3rd pick, you said it yourself, he is worth a lot a more, but the team was soon to be loosing him. That's 1y away for the Jets in Dubois' case. That's why you are getting no Dach, Byfield, and probably no Vilardi for Dubois with almost no team control left...
