LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

Keep him on the team until the deadline. We aren't going anywhere this year anyway. 2nd year in a row he is going to the media to try and speed things up. Only going to piss the GM off even more.

The team that trades for PLD is going to pay similar to what the islanders did for Horvat and then sign him to a similar contract to keep him. If a club is okay with overpaying in acquiring PLD and then overpaying to keep him then good for them. Hope it ain’t my favourite team.
You think Isles overpayed for Horvat?

You must hate the trade deadline.

Avs trade Newhook + 2023 1st for PLD... Then sign PLD to a 2x$7.5M contract extension.

2 years is the best of both worlds for both sides IMO. Avs get 2 more years as a top contender with PLD as the 2C... After that, a lot of the Avs core will be approaching 30 or over 30 years old, our window will be quickly closing and we'll be looking at a retool anyway.

For PLD, he takes the 2 year deal so that when he is a UFA in 2 years time, he's 27 years old and likely looking at being a UFA the 1st summer where the flat cap is broken and all GMs around the league are swimming in cap space. If he really does want to go to Montreal, he signs for 7x8-8.5M with them, if he's just looking to cash in for as much money as he can, he goes to the highest bidder which would almost certainly be in the 7x$9.5-10M range at that point looking at a $90M cap and rising.

Structure the deal as year 1 PLD makes $6.5M(His last RFA year), then year 2 he makes $8.5M(His 1 UFA year).

Wouldn't be surprised to see a 2-3 year deal. Become a UFA when the cap is much higher and he's proven more. He was injured for a good portion of the season, didn't really make the case for a huge payday.

When he wanted out in CBJ he intentionally took less money to make himself more attractive to other teams to trade for him. Being so close to UFA, why does he lock in to another team now when he can almost pick his spot.

(I know the answer is "because it would increase the Jets' return in a trade", you don't actually have to answer)

Hughes and Gorton are getting a statue if they manage to trade garbage for PLD signed long term at a reasonable cap.

Does Winnipeg want picks / prospects? Or are they looking for an equivalent player to keep going for it?

I could see Vancouver being interested depending on the cost, and in the right scenario.

Players like PLD truly are a cancer to the league. A moderately high end player with aggressively zero loyalty thus making him borderline impossible to add to your team well enough to achieve a greater outcome.
Unless he wanted to be in MTL since the beginning .

Could be the ONE team where he's happy and gives us good hockey for years to come. So no complaints here lmao

Yup. 3rd line and PK duties

"OH PLD... you think you're unhappy in Winnipeg NOW... just wait"

I'd do:

Dvorak
Hoffman
1st Florida
One of Harris/Barron
One of Beck/Roy

for PLD

Dvorak has two years left at 4,45M$ AAV. He had a difficult seasons since he's with us, but than again, everyone had it rough on the Habs in the last two years. He was solid in Arizona tho and might be able to turn it around. He'd be a "band-aid" for Winnipeg's center depth

Hoffman is in his last year at 4,5M AAV. By now, everybody knows what's the deal with him, he's pretty much a cap dump. Useful on PP, but a liability in defense. If the Jets tanks this year, they could try to flip him at the tdl. If they don't do it, Hoffman is gone at the end of the year anyway

1st Florida will either be 31th or 32th.

Harris and Barron are solid defenseman prospects. They're not stars, but both of them will end up with a job in the NHL for sure. If Winnipeg take the rebuild route, they could be nice pieces

Both Beck and Roy are incredible prospects. IMO in the depth chart, they are behind only Hutson and "maybe" Mailloux. Beck is a great two ways center. Roy is a super solid winger, and he can do the defensive plays too, à la Toffoli

This trade give cap space to Montreal, along with a solid 2nd center to play behind Suzuki, and the cap space to sign him
Winnipeg get a kick start at their own rebuild
That is a good offer. I dont especially like it but it is realistic. I think"incredible" is quite the exaggeration describing Beck or Roy. They are good prospects.

Under 8M too would be gravy on roast potatoes. And I think he does sign for under 8M assuming he really wants to play here and be apart of what we're building.

I didn't read the whole thread (or the many others) but are there credible reports that Dubois wants to go to Montreal?

If I wear him I'd pull a Tkachuk and go to a low tax, good weather team with a chance to win. I can't even imagine the pressure and fishbowl in Montreal for a French-Canadian player especially. Clearly this guy wants to go somewhere in particular. Maybe its Montreal but it wouldn't be for me in his shoes.

No from this Habs fan. Wouldn't even do Dach straight up.

I'm sure if you were so inclined to put yourselves in Habs fans shoes you could understand why.
I understand it to a point but you also need to understand that Dubois is clearly the much better player right now. He is from Quebec. He wants to be there. If it only cost Dach Montreal should do that all day.

You just don't get it. Before he ever made the NHL Adam Fox demanded a trade from Calgary because he only wanted to play for NYR, then demanded a trade from Carolina because he only wanted to play for NYR. This is why NYR fans hate Adam Fox and his play there has been such a disaster. Wanting to play somewhere specific foretells doom.

When asked which one HuGo wanted they responded with

You KNOW they want him. Two different GMs have tried to acquire him.

And neither one paid the price when they though it was too much

He a long with a bunch of other players are UFA/potential UFA at the end of next season and a fair amount want to hit the market to see if they can get more than what their current team is offering.

Habs would have the space to get some of them.

If they (habs) do go for PLD I wouldn't be upset, but Winnipeg isn't gojng to sell him for cheap
offer PLD an offer sheet where the compensation is only a 2nd or 3rd round pic, than offer pld a front loaded deal with the following extension.
this way the jets match the offersheet and lose him for nothing next summer, because with the offersheet contract the player can not be traded for 1 full calander year which brings pld into ufa status.
no need to pay what the jets want, get him cheap or wait 1 more year, sorry winnipeg should have dealt him last year when your team had leverage.
