LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

Lmao at all the mad people.

A player should be able to choose where he wants to play. It’s their damn career. You or anyone else have no right to ridicule that.
And you dismiss the reality of pro sports.

It is within the collective bargaining agreement that he can choose where he wants to sign after one more year.

If it were a free for all you would have a two tier league.

I'd do:

Dvorak
Hoffman
1st Florida
One of Harris/Barron
One of Beck/Roy

for PLD

Dvorak has two years left at 4,45M$ AAV. He had a difficult seasons since he's with us, but than again, everyone had it rough on the Habs in the last two years. He was solid in Arizona tho and might be able to turn it around. He'd be a "band-aid" for Winnipeg's center depth

Hoffman is in his last year at 4,5M AAV. By now, everybody knows what's the deal with him, he's pretty much a cap dump. Useful on PP, but a liability in defense. If the Jets tanks this year, they could try to flip him at the tdl. If they don't do it, Hoffman is gone at the end of the year anyway

1st Florida will either be 31th or 32th.

Harris and Barron are solid defenseman prospects. They're not stars, but both of them will end up with a job in the NHL for sure. If Winnipeg take the rebuild route, they could be nice pieces

Both Beck and Roy are incredible prospects. IMO in the depth chart, they are behind only Hutson and "maybe" Mailloux. Beck is a great two ways center. Roy is a super solid winger, and he can do the defensive plays too, à la Toffoli

This trade give cap space to Montreal, along with a solid 2nd center to play behind Suzuki, and the cap space to sign him
Winnipeg get a kick start at their own rebuild
I’ll take Barron, Beck, FLA 1st, and Hoffman… you can keep Dvorak

No… you just repeated an offer thats been regularly refused by Jets fans
I think he is right. The big debate seems to be the quality of the prospect. And now, with Florida in the finals the value of a 1st pick.

No, the debate is why Habs fans insist on trying to dump Dvorak on the Jets when its been repeatedly refused

I’d be interested in Beck + FLA 1st +
I woudlnt mind Beck + FLA 1st but we would need to add a contract also if u dont want Dvorak what about Hoffman or Armia ? Obviously they aint nothing special but ufas next summer
I really don't buy the nonsense about him only wanting to playing Montreal at all.

Not one actually credible source has come out and said that, it's always Montreal media or just random website speculation. Just because he didn't want to play in Columbus and doesn't want to play in Winnipeg isn't him forcing his way to one specific team... I'm sure a lot of players around the league don't want to play in either of those cities, Winnipeg in particular is the worst city in the NHL for players.

Will be very interesting to watch this situation unfold though. I wonder if Dubois ends up opting for a 3 year deal wherever he goes so he can cash in on another big deal as a UFA in 3 years time when the cap has likely blown up.
actually all this first started with the Winnipeg reporter saying Dubois is telling hes entourage he wants to play for the habs it wasnt montreal media

When he wanted out in CBJ he intentionally took less money to make himself more attractive to other teams to trade for him. Being so close to UFA, why does he lock in to another team now when he can almost pick his spot.

(I know the answer is "because it would increase the Jets' return in a trade", you don't actually have to answer)

Because he can pick his spot?

He's not being forced to a spot and forced to sign, it'd be somewhere he would be interested in signing, with teams interested in him.

Yikes. The posters on this forum.

offer PLD an offer sheet where the compensation is only a 2nd or 3rd round pic, than offer pld a front loaded deal with the following extension.
this way the jets match the offersheet and lose him for nothing next summer, because with the offersheet contract the player can not be traded for 1 full calander year which brings pld into ufa status.
no need to pay what the jets want, get him cheap or wait 1 more year, sorry winnipeg should have dealt him last year when your team had leverage.
That would be a dirty, dirty move.

I think that our current circumstances should tell you that player who asks for a trade doesn't have the same ability to pick his spot as a UFA does.

You KNOW they want him. Two different GMs have tried to acquire him.
He's so flakey though. Doesn't seem to be happy wherever he goes. When he's unhappy he dogs it. Kind of a risk for any team taking him on. Plus you have to play him ~8M with that risk hanging over your head.

GMs will beware i think and prefer to take him as a rental or a short-term deal.

Yeah no. Dach took some pretty good leaps last year. He is basically a cheaper PLD. Love that guy.
100% Quite possible Habs have completely moved on from PLD with the way Dach played down the stretch last season. Best to see how it plays out and whether there is a need in a year when PLD may be available for free.

Unless the Jets are happy with a crap offer of Dvorak + Fla 1st + Kidney. It would not surprise me if Chevy wants Dvorak in the return.

Dude may want to play there, but he isn't the take a paycut type either... good luck with that shit

That's what you get when players have absolutely no say on where they play.
It's built in to the foundational value of the league itself. Players should not only expect not to play where they wish for an early portion of their careers, they should actually embrace it considering its built to maximize product value league wide in an effort to generate the revenue that all benefit from accordingly.

I didn't read the whole thread (or the many others) but are there credible reports that Dubois wants to go to Montreal?

If I wear him I'd pull a Tkachuk and go to a low tax, good weather team with a chance to win. I can't even imagine the pressure and fishbowl in Montreal for a French-Canadian player especially. Clearly this guy wants to go somewhere in particular. Maybe its Montreal but it wouldn't be for me in his shoes.
It's all but confirmed he wants to play in MTL.

The only thing we don't really know is if he's open to any other markets and/or how important the money is

If Winnipeg doesn't want to rebuild, they are probably looking for Dach + from MTL. From Avs, adding rights to Compher along with Newhook + 1st could help.

He’ll be dealt before offer sheet season starts. Gotta wonder though - is there ANYWHERE where this guy would be happy? He hasn’t been a good fit anywhere in his career. He might have his golden bridge where he thinks everything will finally be okay, but I hope he’s actually being honest and realistic about it, or he’ll just be miserable there too.
This is why it's a significant risk to sign him long term. Let's say he signs with the Habs and wants out a year later with 5 years left on his contract; who is going to accept to give up anything for this guy?

Source? I googled and saw a million rumours of him being traded to Montreal, but nowhere did I see insider reports that PLD actually wants to stay in MTL. Not saying its untrue, but asking for a legitimate source.

PLD's agent.
