LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

Why would LA include Byfield? Is there any other team in on Helleybuck or Dubois offering a player similar? They do not need to bid against themselves here. Both guys on the Jets have openly stated they will not sign there and are leaving. Jets have little leverage and Dubois seems to be choosing his destination.
Blake will give a very nice return but if it really ends up being LA I think Jets fans should not expect Clarke or Byfield. Vilardi is a possibility if negotiations go south. He was involved in trade talks for Chychrun a couple years ago also.
Id hate to see Vilardi go as a Kings fan.
It’s not a leverage issue, it’s human nature issues.
Some GM will trip over his ego to get something his competitor wants.
I think the Jets will be fine providing Cheveldayoff actually does something.

I imagine that would get the Kings' attention enough to open the conversation of Byfield being included. No idea what they'd send back cap wise though.

Some fans say Arvidsson but I doubt that. One year till UFA but man... 26 goals with 59 pts is not just some salary dump contract. I doubt it's Kempe or Lafallo either.

Does the Kings have enough room to add Dubois (8x $8.5M) if they trade Byfield or Vilardi, a pick, and a NHL contract like M Roy?

Byfield is already under contract. Vilardi needs a new one. My guess is Vilardi is being offered in the Kings package. If it's the other way around and it's Byfield, then they got to give Vilardi a new contract which could complicate their cap

What are the chances the trade and contract becomes too difficult and all teams pass?

Jets asking for too much?
and/or
Dubois asking for too much on a 8 year deal.

Low chance Dubois is not traded before the season starts next year right?

“Hey Dubois, earn $4M less this year, take the risk you won’t get a major injury and/or suck out and hurt your next contract and take the risk Winnipeg just won’t match.”

Easy.
Hey PL.

Sign for 4.2 this year and on Jan 1st you get your 8x8.2 contract. Brings you to a 7.8M over 9 years which fits our team salary structure

Here I fixed it for you.

Rather not give any picks for Dubois, so offer sheet is out of the question how about something like Dvorak+Harris , just speculating here I haven't seen it thrown around much , seems like a perfect fit for both teams

Dvorak and Harris is less than what they got for Trouba who was in a similar situation to Dubois today. Return was 20th pick and a young Pionk. Harris could be compared to Pionk but 20th vs Dvorak? Jets will probably rather take their chances at the 2024 trade deadline.

This is as deep as I think we go:
Harris or Beck (or both)
Panthers 1st (or Habs early 2nd if both Beck and Harris are included).
NHL contract for salary cap reasons.

Jets may not like that offer as well. But our offer is based on our rebuild and we are really not as desperate for Dubois as some thinks we are. It if works, it works. If it don't, it don't.

Hey PL.

Sorry that the Jets decided to match for $4.2M since we decided to offer dogsh*t trade comp (which is why we tried this OS gimmick lol).

On, sorry you tore your ACL. Hey, about that long-term contract…. yeah, a lot has changed in a year… going in a different direction.

Au revoir, Pierre-Luc! Bon chance!

Insane to me that people think PLD will take this risk. No chance.

we’re wading through a lot of slop here, no doubt about that lol.

Wait so you would put Vilardi - Who’s a year and a half older than Dach and has had career threatening injuries early in his career - and had the same PPG as Dach over.. Dach on your list?

The hate for habs and their players on here is real. I’m sorry but in no universe would I take Vilardi over Dach right now.

I don’t really have a horse in the race just trying to parse what folks are saying in the thread into something more concrete. I suspect that of that list only Vilardi would actually get moved.

If the plan is to trade Dubois this summer and not want the distraction during the season, all Chevy can do is talk to those 5 or 6 teams and see what each offers. Then if he has something he likes, the next layer is does Dubois sign 8 years with them.

This is tricky but it's both a trade and then a contract. If Dubois is after max deal (8x $9.5M), that may be the biggest hurdle and even the Habs may steer clear of that.

I'm starting to sense that Dubois/Brisson are after that max deal. They set themselves up to be a UFA for that 2024 off season where the cap is expected to grow. Now they are open to a 8 year extension prior to but make no mistake, they will force the 1 year arbitration if they don't get what they are looking for.

Armstrong answear, why do you want your second back? Give us Mesar and the second and we think about it ;)
Armstrong doesn't give a damn lol. Gettint a 2nd thats this early and an additional 4th wpuld be more than enough

Value aside, how is that a perfect fit for the Jets?

I get the Habs dump Dvorak contract and Harris is redundant in their organization so they care little losing him.

Personally I don't see how that offer helps or does a single thing for the Jets. We've all seen this offer a million times and Jets fans have repeated it doesn't fill any needs not even talking about value.

That’s entirely possible. If I am L.A I am 100% willing to take that risk and send Vilardi the other way knowing his injury issues and him having finally a good season under his belt.

Armstrong isn’t stupid. He’ll soak the habs for that pick. Habs have 0 leverage in getting that 2nd back.. sound familiar!
Armstrong is there to benefit his team. Getting pick #37 in a strong draft and an additional 4th is exactly that.

As a Hab fan who doesn't want PLD unless the cost is something you can't say no to. I think if LA was offering Vilardi or Byfield the deal would be done already.

LA can just wait this out because they know Montreal is only a factor till draft day. After that there is no way they offer the '24 1st even if it is protected. Montreal has no '24 2nd round pick, so the best they can offer would be the Colorado 2nd which would not be enough, so they would be out of the running

So it comes down to which teams of the supposed 5-6 that he is interested in extending with are also interested in him extended. There may be others willing to make an offer as a rental, and then it will probably be for less of a return. So LA if they wind up the only suitor for him essentially are bidding against themselves, unless Winnipeg are willing to hang on to him till the TDL and see if there will be more players in the game when teams see where they are at and what their needs are. They can also retain salary to a rental team to open it to more bidders.
The last thing I’m worried about is teams having interest in PLD.

The fact that L.A seems to be a legit player in this race now probably makes me want to up it up a notch.

I would be comfortable with Beck, 31st, 37th, Hoffman and another smaller piece like Primeau, maybe?

Edit: Maybe Ylonen could in there somewhere instead of one of these assets?

It's all depending on whta Dubois is asking. If it's 8x8 then I am OK with your package. If it's 8x9 then hell no, the Habs should stop the trade discussion.
