Did you not read the context?

If Dubois says I won't sign more than 2 years and force to UFA would Suzuki be a target.

I don't know if the Habs would want to though tbh. They are super high on Suzuki.
Is there a reason why he won't resign in Peg is the offer him a good contract?

Yes he has. Dubois literally had one decent year when he got carried by Panarin. Even this year when he’s playing with a PPG+ winger and PP1 with players who are usually PPG or higher he can barely do any better than Suzuki who’s been playing mostly with Lehkonen, Armia and third liners.

Even in terms of responsibilities, Suzuki is ahead of PLD playing PK1 and taking big defensive draws when needed.
That's a bad take.

Little interest in Suzuki even if Dubois wanted out. The Suzuki deal looked like a big overpayment the day the deal was signed, and is not looking any better this year.

Is it? So what do you expect Dubois to sign for?

Yikes. Every single advanced stat (except zone starts) favours Dubois by a sizeable margin.

Dubois' corsi is 22.5, Suzuki is 2.8.

Some of that may have to do with linemates, and the fact that the Habs are a bit of a tire fire this year, but it's not even in the ball park. Dubois shots for (70.9 to 57.1) is substantially higher, but give some of that credit to Connor. His shots against are also way lower (48.4 to 54.3) and Connor is a tire fire in his own end.

It was in the OP as the scenario around this trade, "he said if say Dubois says he doesn't want to stay long term in Winnipeg"

Wasn't even my idea in the thread it was meant as an if this scenario happens I think.

Jets decline. Dubois earned his contract and Suzuki hasnt. Jets are not in a rebuild mode. They need a retool.
LOL you care to tell me how has Dubois "earned" his contract and no Suzuki? Last time i checked Suzuki was 1 year older. They have nearly identical pro rata ppg, Suzuki has a stanley cup final under his belt and he’s playing with Kyle connor and hasn’t played with Panarin a full season to boost his stats.

Since Suzuki entered the league 3 years ago this is the comparison:

PLD

103 points in 158 games for 0.65 PPG

Suzuki

109 points in 171 games for 0.64 PPG

So that is ignoring that fact that PLD is a year older and had 2 years of NHL experience when Suzuki came into the league. Jets fans will whine that it doesn't take into account that PLD was traded last year, but it also doesn't take into account that Suzuki has been on a team filled with AHLers all season, which is a smidge more difficult to overcome. Suzuki also doesn't have a C like Scheifele to take on the hard match-ups, and he is relied on to do absolutely everything.

I could also go into their head to head match-up in the playoffs last year, but that is such a slam dunk win for Suzuki that any analysis would be a waste of time.

Figured Habs ownership and fans would be frothing to get hold of a french speaking nr 1c and Jets can't let him walk IF he won't sign longterm.

Here's whats really going on : 4-5 journalist are pushing their pro Quebec agenda over player quality.

No one else gives a f*** maybe except Rejean du Lac St-Jean but he just likes to complain anyway.

Btw, Suzuki > PLD
No thx

If he didn’t want to extend and we couldn’t get a better offer elsewhere that included an established top 6 C, then I could see it happening, but I seriously doubt it would be 1 for 1.

If we can sign him for free when he's UFA that would be one thing, but there are too many red flags to trade Suzuki for him.

Jets fans thinking that everyone will sign a team friendly deal to stay in Winnipeg. Connor at $7.1M, Scheifele at $6.1M, Hellebuyck at $6.1M... no wonder you think a guy like Suzuki is overpaid. You think everyone (including PLD) is going to play nice and sign for less to stay in Winnipeg. Good luck with that!

PLD is going to force his way to UFA sooner than you want if you don't pony up on a long term contract. Suzuki to me is a 30-40 range center but he will be overpaid in the 1st half but probably underpaid in the 2nd half. Do you think you are getting $6.25M of value from Morrissey today? PLD at $5M only deserves a little raise if you offer him a 6-8 year deal? Come on man.

Habs decline. But I'm not going to do what others do... Decline and then throw insults in the process. I value PLD but we are not trading Suzuki for him. Suzuki's contract will age well and PLD will demand probably something similar if you try to sign him for 7 or 8 years. Reality.

Who's better? Not worth it cause why would either team make a lateral move like that? Miniscule differences between these two in value IMO.

Habs are best to stay put and let the Jets try to sign PLD where if they don't like the AAV, they are forced to sign him to a lower AAV with a small term. Habs then try to bring the kid home after our youth movement and PLD's contract expires.
