Change the word Cheap to Frugal. I stand firm. Jets have a small market team, smallest arena, and well below average local TV revenue. You can try to nit pick or make fun or spin it but those are facts. Further context is they were the only NHL team last year to not have any July Bonus payments. That's rare but it's further context.

What does this mean when it comes to PLD? I believe they will not like the AAV PLD asks for if they talk 6-8 year term. I also believe they prefer to have his AAV closer to the other guys who are considered better than him. Will they bite the bullet and pay him as the highest paid Jets? Possible. We will see. Book mark it

You have no idea what sort of amenities Jets players get off the ice. Just because their arena has 2000 less seats than other team's arenas doesn't mean the team is frugal in any way. In fact, they have a reputation of going the extra mile off the ice in every way possible.

And yes, they'll make PLD the highest paid Jet at ~8.5 million. Why wouldn't they? That's his approximate value, and that's what he'll get.

Jets are not even playing him at center?

All a post like this shows is that you have no clue what you're talking about because you haven't even watched a single shift of PLD this season.

He has centered Kyle Connor and a rotation for Right Wings the entire season. I don't think he has played a single second not at center 5 vs 5 this entire season.

I can't actually believe this thread is still going. There is no way that the Jets would trade PLD for Suzuki if he is willing to extend, which he is, so this can just be locked as far as I'm concerned.

Suzuki is overpaid for what he currently brings. Hopefully he grows into the contract. The general rule of thumb is that you get $1M for each 10 points that you score with an additional premium for Centers or Right D. At basically $7.9 as a C he should be scoring 70+points. Was at a 60 point pace when he got extended so I'm sure the thinking was he would improve the last year of his ELC and then put up 70+ points for the duration of the extension. Maybe it still happens but if he continues around a 50 point pace that isn't good.

No wayyy the Habs make that trade. They'll just sign him for free in FA.

You'll have to fill me in then. Dubois is better in Corsi and Fenwick. Both for and against.

I already said in here.

Defensively Suzuki is a more impactful player defensively.
Corsi and fenwick dont take into account anything

if you look at "above replacement" metrics suzuki is a drag on offense, but very impactful defensively compared to dubois
but dubois is a more impactful player at offensively at even strength, and below average defensively.

Nobody wants to. Not even the Habs. Point went over your head. I REPEAT... if the Jets want a 8 year term on PLD, they will have to purchase even more UFA years than the Habs did with Suzuki. Reality and who's better on the ice? That's subjective to who you ask but personally, I feel their values as young centers are close with miniscule differences. Both are fringe 1C's and above average 2C's in my book.

I don't see either side making that lateral move. But then others will focus on PLD being much better or vice versa. I don't believe the gap in value between these two is substantial like that.
I was replying to your comment about "the Jets are cheap and not sure they want to sign PLD for $8M."
Wheeler is signed for 8.25m?
We are at the cap. Mind to explain that comment?

Are you saying that because Chevy signs players to "team friendly" contracts he is cheap?
I call it being a good general manager and especially in managing his assets.

The Habs have over 8.5m in cap space, maybe it is the Habs that are cheap?

I'm a Jets fan and it's crazy how many people refuse to understand context clues. Yeah if Dubois was refusing to sign here long term for whatever reason, I would love Suzuki as a return. Similar upside (albeit a different skillset) and being able to make a lateral move in that position would be more than ideal. Honestly, I see less of a reason for the Habs to do it unless they really loved Dubois' size and speed and Suzuki continues to trend downwards (quite unlikely).

Pure speculation, but lets say rfa PLD tells Chevy he is not willing to sign long term in Winnipeg. Could the jets offer him to Montreal for Suzuki who is locked up long term for 7,8.

Not the same type of players but both have future nr 1C pedigree IMHO.

If PLD would agree to a sign and trade with Montreal, is this a fair hockey trade or would either side have to add anything?
Two real good players. Would be a fun trade. Value seems pretty close.

Trend Downwards? What the F??

Guy has bene outproducing Dubois who plays with much better players, how is he trending downwards exactly?

Habs won't do that deal based on the fact Suzuki has never had any supporting crew aroudn him (except Caufield) AND still managed to get 60-70pts pace over the past 2 seasons. Now factor in one of them is signeed LT @ 7.8M$for 8 years, and the other one needs a new deal (and likelly looking around 8.5 ish, Habs have zero reason to do that trade

Let's face it, put Dubois with the same linemate Suzuki has, and the guy barely nets in 50pts

Two years ago Dubois played on a decimated Jackets team and had injury-replacement wingers beside him for most of the year. Worse than what Suzuki has had. He had 49 pts in 70 games, followed up with 10 pts in 10 playoff games.

Dubois is likely to sign lomg term, he likes it in Winnipeg. Plus hid dad is ome of the coaches their. So yes i did read the context

That still just avoids the question. OP didn't say anything about how likely PLD is to sign. Just asked the question, 'what if'.
