Well you can't expect him to have his entire speech memorized. It seemed to me that he came prepared with what he wanted to say and who he wanted to acknowledge. Who cares if he occasionally glanced at his notes. Some people...
Sorry, I'm behind...do we know for sure Shanny didn't talk too anyone else? I thought that's why Dubby wasn't hired immediately?honestly, interviewing other gm's has nothing to do whether you trust your chosen guy or not but has more to do with doing your job.
don't get me wrong-- i want dubas to do well because i want the team to succeed, but shanahan not looking outside the org ain't sitting right with me. and it's fair to voice your concern. just my 2 cts, man.
in one year i might be sitting here and write him a love song or something because he is doing a great job.
"One of my favourite things to do is find inefficiencies, find players that are undervalued."
I can see why he liked Yanni Gourde and Nate Schmidt. They would look great on the Leafs right now.
This dude does his homework and is innovative.
Dasiy I believe that Shanny went through the process did he not say he looked outside and found nothing that would be better then the two internal candidates?it's okay
honestly like i said. I'll own the fact that I wasn't keen on Dubas being the GM. that's not because i wanted an "older" gm, I just wasn't keen on Dubas from what he did when he was interim. I also said (countless times) that if he was the guy - i'd be fine, I just wanted Shanahan to go through the process
he didn't. that makes me upset. (and to be honest this seems to be the one thing he didn't go through everything to ensure this was the right move). but what's done is done. Dubas is GM, I'll support him, (he'll have to earn my trust like any GM would, even if it was my choice), and i'll happily admit i was wrong when Dubas starts proving me wrong.
but in my heart of hearts, I just feel that Shanahan did the organization a slight disservice . Let's just hope that's all it is - slight.
If anything we will be built like the jets.He is not even that analytical. More so that lou? Yeah probably, he obviously believes in it. But he hasn’t made a pure anylitics decision yet. The marlies have rich cline for crying out loud
I think that goes back to why they hired Lou. They saw Dubas wasn't ready when he was interim, they took their time and let him run the Marlies. Dubas takes notes and learns from Lou, I think that was a great move and a great stop gap to have Dubas prepared. They were careful in not making him a GM sooner than he should.it's okay

as you're entitled to. time will tell for sure. i'm happy with the hire no doubt, but like any GM he will have to earn the fans' trust.I agree he came very well prepared but the point was made that he was so well tuned with the organization that he rattled off the names of all these people. That was, clearly, not the case. Saying that, he made a very good accounting of himself. I, however, remain very skeptical of the choice.
They didn't even look for a GM, they made the easy and lazy choice and because of that they are likely to lose Mark Hunter at some point in the near future, who is one of the better scouts in the NHL
the alternative is to say he's still happy in his present position (if he was) and while he's disappointed in not being the GM he's still looking forward to building the Leafs into a cup winning squad but also say that no one knows what the future holdsWhy would either Dubas or Shanahan answer it directly? They handled it precisely how any organization would. They said Dubas will be sitting with people throughout the organization over the coming days/weeks. That's really all you can say.
I mean, what's the alternative? They say Hunter is staying, and tomorrow, or a week from now another team decides to reach out about a GM position? There's no upside to saying anything definitive on his plans. Until further notice Mark Hunter is a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

Shanny took his time and named his choice after looking at the options. I do not think he changed his process one bit. When he makes up his mind he does not change it.
I was with you in looking for a candidate outside the organization if that candidate fit into the Shanny plan.
Despite what he said about his involvement about running the franchise when asked Shanny has always been highly involved in all key decisions and I can not see that Changing in fact I see it happening more frequently as Lou was Likely given more rope.

During the presser Shanahan said that he didn't. (if I heard that wrong - then i stand corrected, and I take everything i said in the negative back). but he said that he just focused on the internal candidates.
ultimately i just want the best for this organization. Today - that's Dubas. next step: making the team a force to be reckon with.
very true

He said he examined options outside the organization. Not sure how anyone is saying he didn't look outside at all.examine, or interviewed?
i think he stays until the draft unless in his meeting with Dubas he gets dictated on what type of player to draft and then he walksWhat happens with Hunter probably won't be clear until after the draft. Even if Hunter plans on leaving, I'd expect him to be professional enough to stay with us until the draft barring another team hiring him as a GM.
