Trust Shanny. Dubas has put the work in, learned from some of the best but his best attribute is his own personal approach to the game, his cutting edge and "ahead of the curve" thinking. Excited about this...young team with a young forward thinking GM.

i never got in sports the rehashing of bad gms. you were crappy on one team, but get another chance cause experience? would you hire the same plumber who ruined.another home? no? use that logic for sports.
what makes a crappy GM ?

Rutherford was considered a crap GM by the time he was fired from the Canes and brought in pieces to help the Pens win back to back cups.

Shero was fired and went to the Devils and seems to have turned that ship around.

a lot of how a GM performs is based on the situation he's put in and tbh some luck , we wouldn't be where we are if we lost the lottery and picked 4th instead winning and getting AM or if Nylander and Ehlers were taken ahead of us instead of Del Colle and Virtanen

whoever Shanny would have picked would have walked into a very good situation and is set up for success , we have a very good young core , very little dead cap and a good prospect pool , also ownership that will burn money to build a winner and no worries about filling the arena

i could imagine a large number of new or re cycled GM's would have success here

We people saying the same thing when Dubas brought Keefe in?
We had Wes Clark and we refused to promote him in the scouting side of our equation. He's now the Panthers OHL scout and was key in choosing Tippett over Vilardi. Between, what I've heard opinion of him around the OHL is, and the fact he chose Tippett over Vilardi makes him a guy I don't want having a big voice in our organization.

Dubas was Shanny choice and let’s support that decision.

Looks like Hunter is not staying judging by the comments from Shanny and Dubas.

very much seems so, Shanny said "hunter was" at one point too. Well Dubas can hire a new head of scouting for everyone to spend 100+ pages to love or hate the hire

Why type things like this? The comments glean no information regarding whether he'll stay. We just need to wait and see.

I know nothing of Wes Clark so if he is bad let’s hope he doesn’t the
He was Dubas's right hand mand in Sault Ste Marie, who was on the Dubas side of the Leafs organization. The scouting side didn't like him, but he wanted a scouting job so he moved to the Panthers as their OHL guy. He was key in taking Tippett over Vilardi.

Shanahan in the presser said he didn't
If that's the case (I haven't seen the presser), all I can say is Shanahan must have had 110% belief in Dubas to forego that. If I hire you and believe in you, see how you make everything I thought about you justified over the course of 3 years, it's done.
I understand if you aren't 100% sold on it, people take that for I hate him and fail you dummy, but all we can do now is give him his chance. I thought Hunter had an equally impressive resume but that's in the past now. I will evaluate him the same way I've evaluated any other GM we've had. I'm not going to say I have every confidence in the world in him (I wouldn't say that about Hunter either) but I respect the right to show us what he's got.

Wow! Tippett over Vilardi?

If that's true, i'm glad he's not a 'voice' on this team.

Again a fair reasoning but if surrounded by different minds and direction perhaps his choice look better?
I'm playing devils advocate here FYI.

wait so we decided not promote this guy once already, you think Dubas would come in and hire a guy (who is already in a job) that the scouting side were against as one of his first jobs? i really dont hink so

He literally thanked him as one of the first things he did in the press conference. He was a Dubas guy who others in the organization didn't like (mainly Hunter). Since Hunter had full autonomy to run the scouting staff, that wasn't changed. With Dubas now having final say over that stuff he may bring his long-time friend back.

We'll see what he does. Him bringing Wes Clark back wouldn't shock me at all. I'm not saying its bound to happen.

Not saying I know both prospects inside and out but it's a bit too soon to hate a guy for picking between 18/19 year olds isn't it?

is vilardi and tippet that big of a blunder? similar scoring in the ohl. Obviously you are far more knowledgeable on prospects than me, but its not like they chose a freddy the goat ("sure thing") over a top line player there. They also just changed GM and philosophy could that factor into taking him over vilardi? i dont know,

I viewed Tippett as a guy in the late teens or 20's and Vilardi as a top 5 player.

Vilardi is 10 times the player Tippett is if you watch them. Tippett has tools but is dumb as a rock and doesn't work very hard tracking back. Vilardi also blew him out of the water this year.

I'd also trust Hunter in not wanting him on his staff. He also isn't very highly thought of around the OHL.

That's fair, not sure how people know he's not a liked guy in the OHL but I'll take your word for it.
Well, I know because I know people who work around the OHL consistently for a living. Now, that's not a large sample, but he is not highly thought of (and pretty much anyone associated with Panthers scouting, Isles or Edmonton scouting is generally not held in high regard).
