So we should go by reputation accumulated outside the league, and ignoring the actual performance? And doing otherwise is having your head up your ass?

Makes sense. Hunter is so good that even if his picks don't actually translate, his scouting is still flawless.
Reading this as Shanny sings his praises. I’ll leave it at that for the armchair genius brigade here. Cheers.

annnd. Shanahan didn't look outside the organization. at all.
I am now that Simpson heartbroken meme.

If you want evidence listen to anyone connected to the game and how highly they speak of him. There is no evidence required, unless you have your head up your ass? He’s a great addition to any organization.

Reputations are nice but results are what matters, nothing wrong with waiting to see if he can actually produce NHLers as expected. I’d say his reputation suggests he’s one of the best scouts in the league, but I’m not sure if the Leafs prospect pool reflects that just yet. I hope that it does.

I knew it would happen before the next round of the Marlies.

Great and bold choice.

Yeah, obviously there was a clear risk at that point that Shanahan would say "Yeah, we are not thrilled with some of his drafting picks, but we will have to work with him going forward too unfortunately."

I'm glad you think I'm a genius, but that's a bit much. Most anyone would realize you should judge someone's work on their actual work, and not based on whether they got thanked in a thank you speech that included... well, everybody in the organization.

How can you say this? He has only ever scouted for the leafs and only has 3 years his drafts haven’t even had a chance to make the nhl? One of the best scouts is a bit much. One of the best scouts whose record is mostly outside the nhl sure

It's actually quite easy to say.

There was Marner over Hanifin which was a legitimate debate

There was Travis Dermott in the next round who is quickly turning into a top 4 D.

Hunter got Credit for Zaitsev who did get hurt this year 1 certainly looked like a top 4 D

There is Grunstrom who looks to be on the fast track to to the NHL, looks real good in the AHL playoffs, and be before you or anyone else calls me out for not giving a f*** about Sparks numbers Sparks was drafted in 2011 and is almost 25, Grunstrom is 20 BIG difference.

Then we got Timmy last year and he looks like a stud too.

Hunter has done a great job.

Shanny chose the guy he’s been grooming for 3 years. Boo am I right

i said all i had to say in regards to that.
i really hope it was the right one. like i said if Dubas got hired I'll be supportive.
all I wanted was Shanahan to do his due diligence. to hear that he didn't really makes me disappointed.

All valid points, except what does sparks have to do with any of this you lost me there. Dermott is the only legit pick exceeding expectations right now. Apparently other posters have confirmed we have no interest in hanafin and Provorov was the dman they wanted

A brigade isn’t a singularity, fact you missed that distinction perhaps says something about who the geniuses are...

Shanahan, give Hunter a healthy raise to keep him on board!
If he feels disrespected he'll leave. He makes so much from just owning the Knights that the Leafs would need to pay him a ridiculous amount to stay. He's one of the few people where money isn't a major factor. Very few people in the NHL have the supplemental income that Hunter does.

Its hilarious and painful at the same time reading some of the thoughts in this thread. Hell of a lot of assumptions being made - Hunter will leave and we'll be screwed if he does!! Dubas is too young!! Shanahan didn't do his homework!! Truth is, its impossible to make decisions to please everyone, but the results since Shanahan has taken over the Leafs have overall been fantastic and they are definitely trending in the right direction for the first time in several years!! For that reason alone, I trust this is a good decision and we'll get to assess that quickly over the next year or 2. And here's a bold statement - I'm sure every decision he makes from this point on won't please everyone and some will crap on him for it, but as long as he's good overall and the Leafs slowly build an annual cup contender, I'll be happy.

so you give a condescending post after your hilarious views?

you should rename yourself HotTakes
how else should i reply ?

i don't need to get to know KD , i just need him to continue building the team

and because i haven't fallen in line with the Dubas nut sucking/Hunter bashing doesn't mean my views are "hilarious"

It was a jape, my friend, not a serious response.

Let's hope Hunter stays, because I do think he's a valuable asset and a good scout. But we gotta start seeing more results from that.

Babcock wanted Hanifin.

You can't expect someone to dramatically beat the odds of picks. If we got 2 NHLers out of Hunters 5 2nd rounders that is significantly beating the odds of those pick ranges.

You know we can’t just take an employed gm right? Unless they are fired. So which available gm right now do you wish they looked into
