Very well said.

Unfortunately, those that have decided they dislike him have shown that they don't really care about getting to know what kind of guy he is. I don't really understand why you would do that unless you are primarily searching for a reason to be mad... but maybe that's all for the better. Some perspectives you don't want to understand.
not all of us have had the opportunity to sit down and have a few beers with him like you have so maybe you can enlighten us with "what kind of guy he is"

No, but the continuity was nice while it last I guess.

For sure, things end it’s life. Shanny decided changing now instead of when we are a legit contender and Lou is closer to 80 is for the best. In doing so he may lose a head scout so he hires a new one who may be better, may be worse or may be the same

I guess we will never know since strome was taken 3rd oa.

Yeah true. But dice man in an early post said 2 people wanted Provorov and 2 wanted marner, I can’t remember if he said anyone wanted strome or not. His post was written like it was fact

I actually met him in Hamilton one time when they Greyhounds were in town. He's a really friendly guy!

If you have faith in Shanahan why not have faith in his choice for GM?

If Shanahan says that he interviewed everyone and Dubas was still the right person, i'd be fine with it - but the GM (whomever it was) would still need to make moves to make me feel like I can trust him.

If Shanahan (with all due respect) basically just went with "well Dubas was always the plan." that would piss me off, and be the first crack in the Shanaplan. And if people want to make it sound because of agesim, or i wanted someone super old, they are wrong. Blue and White disease ran rampant in this organization including the front offices), so the fact they just went back to hiring the guy there without doing their due diligence

I felt personally bringing someone in who saw the Leafs from the outside (and had other connections) would only help us.

I wanted the best. I have and always will feel you can only know what the best is if you look at every single option, not just pick the one in your face. Shanahan decided so i, as I've done with everyone who has ever been hired will be open minded and support them (and they will/will not earn my trust).

You do realize the same thing applies to replacing Lou with Dubas right?

This is not surprising in the least, and he is more a figure head in the position than having the authority of most GMs in the league.

Shanny is really calling all the shots in the Shann-a-Plan and Dubas simple his right hand man sitting in the GM chair and doing the day to day stuff.

Dubas doesn't have full autonomy to do many things without adult supervision or approval first. Many outside GMs that were interested would never take this job based on the limitations that would come with it.

This sounds like a lot of bunk.

The first thing Lou said when reflecting about his GM stint in Toronto was how great Shanahan was at giving him freedom to do the job.

people don't need analytics to know most ufa's around 30 signed to long term big money deals don't work out well

GM's also know this but when you're under pressure to win you sometimes worry more about the present than the future .

Traditional thinking was always pick up the big name FA, he’ll bolster the line up and you’re paying for a great player.

Analytics came and said you’re not paying for a great player, you’re paying for a player who had great seasons prior but those seasons are very likely to be behind him

so i love hunter but what has he done? matthews was easy, liljegren falling was a joke. he picked Marner. wasnt the rumor Dubas loved Barzal? u guys dont want Barzal????

bye hunter. go flex your financial muscles cheating in the ohl

Anyone who thinks hes analytics only isn't paying attention. Look at the Soo and the Marlies.
I think my only real concern is how he handles the other GMs, trades, etc. I don't think he will be handling contracts so not too worried about that.

Lou is how old? At some point he will be gone shannybdecided tonmove in now. He had a 3 year contract that ended
You say so what to losing Hunter because we could hire someone who might be better or might be worse. That exact same logic applies to hiring Dubas.
