Totally agree. We’ve seen nothing to suggest they don’t see eye to eye yet (nor would we I guess) but even if hunter got the gm job we’d need a new scout anyway, so hopefully he stays but if not we’d need one so I hope they have feelers our for a top scout to take over
Promote Thommie Bergman to the position without the GM title?

Yes, and is he going to be the GM? And if he was going to be the GM, how could he manage both?
Because Hunter doesn't manage the day to day of the Knights anymore. But, whatever. We have Dubas now and I'll hope for the best. There's no point in going on for pages about why we think Hunter is the better candidate. But, I don't think owning the Knights should be a major knock against Hunter.

Bergman doesn't want it. He doesn't want to add duties, he's very comfortable just scouting Sweden and, if necessary, give second opinions on other European players.
He's not even the highest ranking NHL scout for the Leafs in Europe. Being an individual scout and a GM are worlds apart in responsibilities.

The OP wanted Bergman for Head Scout though, right? Not that it matters. He's not going to do it, even if they would offer it to him. Which they won't.

Hunter has final say on drafting over Lou and company. We would not have gotten Marner otherwise as one wanted the big center who thus far was a bust and we even arranged a trade to move down if the big center was drafted. Two wanted a D man one who is with the Flyers and Hunter was the one who wanted Marner.

Losing Hunter will be a big loss I hope they were able to offer him enough to stay but as of Monday he said he was not.

People dismissing his importance to the organization are not understanding just how well he has drafted.

The draft his hunters job and it’s 99% done if he leaves now (he wouldn’t) our draft is just fine. The other 2 Dubas needs to get to work on

I completely disagree. Kyle Dubas as GM will have a say in how the Leafs will approach the draft. So will Mike Babcock. Hunter isn't drafting with complete atonomy.

That's not what I was saying. I'm saying that Hunter is in London (I worked at Bud Gardens) at quite a few of their home games. He's still very much involved in their amateur and "pro" (other OHL players) as far as I'm aware.

If he takes the GM job, the Knights will suffer for it. In his current position he's more than able to be the scout for both the team he owns and the team that pays him millions of dollars.

Really hate our media.

Hunter was here when Lou was hired and said if he stay longer than 3 years in the gm role its Dubas fault.

Dubas was always the heir apparent. If Hunter has an issue he would've had it back then too. Same for Babcock.

He's the right choice, happy about it.

He went to Brock at the same time that I did and took the Sports Management program that all of my room mates were in, he used to come to our parties and ended up marrying a girl from our group of friends. Can't believe how far he got in such a short period of time, good on him

I knew that, I was wondering what that poster meant by that
Oh my bad. No chance you didn't know that already.

I think what he meant was that there were rumours going around that Dubas would be the GM but because of his current role as GM of the Marlies, they wouldn't promote him until his team won the championship or were eliminated. As you can see, Shanahan was not worried in the least whether they would be eliminated or win as he was just made the GM of the big club. Boy, Shanahan is really making the media outlets and hot take journalists eat their words.

He drafted the consensus #4 ranked prospect with the #4 pick. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy Babcock didn’t get his way and got the Leafs to take Hanifin, but so far all we have his Dermott from beyond the first round make the NHL.

I hope and expect this will change and have more guys turn into NHLers, but I think at best all we can say is “it’s too early to say” when it comes to evaluating Hunters choices.

To be honest, though, the Knights are arguably the most common destination for NHL scouts. Hunter will always be visible due to having the owners box there. Any scout is probably going to be most visible at the arena closest to them. So seeing Hunter a bunch at Knights or Sting games (he's based out of Petrolia) is not a surprise.

I think it's time we get to the important question then, was he a fan of Archer?
