Fair enough but the way mess was representing it was that Dubas was a puppet

Ya that I don't agree with, Dubas will have a lot of say. I'm sure he has identified players he would love to acquire, let go and move up the depth chart. Like it was mentioned before, most front offices work as a team. Everyone has input, Dubas will come up with the ideas and schemes and people will pitch in basically. That's how I see it going.

I do think we will lose Hunter as I've thought all along (which will suck) but there are lots of scouts out there and we can find someone new

Speculation at best. We’ve never heard they don’t like each other. He is a above average scout he leaves we repalce him life goes on. It’s not like he is the best scout in the game. It’s really not as big a deal as you are making out
i didn't make it out to be or not be a big deal , i merely said he wouldn't be here by the start of the season and Dubas would bring in his own guy

the other poster disagreed and now has gone silent on the topic

That’s the twitter account that said Dubas was about to be hired soon yesterday. After the draft if he leaves he leaves

anyone with half a brain knew dubas was being hired. it was said 3 years ago.

i should mske Allday Sports since i knew as well

Do you believe Dubas could fire the coach Babcock just like other GMs in the league, or fire scouts like Hunter?

Do you think Dubas could trade anyone off the roster like say Matthews like other GMs?

Do you think its Dubas alone that will negotiate and decide Matthews, Marner next contracts etc like most GMs would?

Do you think Dubas could buyout Zaitsev or Marleau etc without approval?

This is what I'm getting at, and unlike when Leafs hired greenhorn JFJ last time and he could sign, trade and run the show and make mistakes without having to answer to anyone but ownership, this time the new GM in training Dubas has lots of restrictions on his job description that a normal GM wouldn't have, and is well insulted with others around him that will be calling their own shots.

well first off pretty much all GM's when making firings buyouts etc. have to go to the president or board for approval usually, so yes I think Dubas will be allowed to do any of what you just mentioned just like the other 30 GM's in the league.

its funny you use JFJ as an example of a GM with full autonomy considering he went to the board with a rebuild plan and they said no.

I don't think any of us saw this one coming. I have a tonne of newly-found respect for the twitter feeds and rumour sites that somehow actually predicted this. At this point I would say it is pretty obvious that their sources are legit, and I will be paying pretty close attention to what they have to say in the future.

And it already begins, any bad choice Dubas makes is because he was forced into it?

I'm happy Dubas got the job but getting the job means he's now responsible for the decisions you like and the decisions you hate. No more of this only Dubas gets credit for the good moves and the bad moves he must have been overruled.

So you don’t think Babcock has power? Whatever Babcock wants he will usually get.
You don’t think he had a say in the Polak signing?
He wanted them to bring back Hunwick, thank god the Penguins gave him an extra year.

the gm has little say in drafting eh... okay

When hunter is ast gm and head of amateur scouting? I’m going to say yeah, otherwise he wouldn’t need the title ast gm. If he was up for the gm job wouldn’t you say they would leave drafting and scouting to him to see how he does? They gave Dubas the marlies job as his own but hunter doesn’t get a pet of a job where he has autonomy?. If so he should realize he was never in with a chance at the gm job he has no experience making critical decisions the ln

Hunter is in charge of the drafts. He was when Lou was here. The only thing Lou would do and Dubas will do is discuss trades and then ask hunter about what’s likely at our pick and should we use it in trade

I would guess Hunter has complete authority on scouting to do what is best for the Leafs based on the team's agenda/strategy. I would think the GM has a huge influence on that agenda / strategy.

What the **** is Rival Sports.

More smoke made up by the Toronto media.
The smoke is coming from them reading hf boards
Sports media should be reading hf to get a pulse on what fans are talking about and thinking as that's a good way to sell. They can design articles targeted and what we are debating

The right move. I am excited for this offseason, especially the draft in terms of what they actually do with picks. I assume that Hunter will still be picking the guys but I have faith that Dubas will have good pick valuation.

Also I have more faith in Dubas limiting mistakes going forward. I believe that his risk management will be a great asset. Overpaying borderline players will probably be a thing of the past and bringing in undervalued assets will be a bigger thing.

Ok I see you are arguing for the sake of arguing. No one tweeted Dubas hiring was imminent except that site and 12 hours later here we are.

did you watch last nights game 7? Speed and skill are definitely needed, but so is grit and grind.
For sure. That Lowry and Armia line is so dominant and strong. Looking forward to our own version one day, hopefully. As like you said, grit is definitely needed to go with the abundance of skill we already have.

Hunter might well go but I'm not willing to speculate on it yet.
Time will tell

I think the buck stops with the GM. If you have a problem with whose signed it falls on Dubas, you don't get to pick and choose what he's responsible for now.

Not "Toronto Media" ..its a small account that post interesting sports news, and from what I can tell, it's factual - not just throwing shit and hoping it sticks.

most assumed theyd wait til Marlies playoffs were done since dubas is their gm. but hey, rival sports knew

Aww:( was hoping he would stay with us.

yaaaaa leafs gonna let him draft and leave....
Guys the account has 200 followers relax lol I could've made a new account every day predicting Dubas would be hired today and I'd eventually be right, just like there's gonna be 1 non-source eventually right
That’s the twitter account that said Dubas was about to be hired soon yesterday. After the draft if he leaves he leaves
Meh the account has 0 reputation and said he'd be hired today yesterday, when I feel if there was a press conference planned for 12:30 today probably already planned a couple days ago the source would've known that info.
