I like the guy, hopefully they can sign him for a good deal for a couple years.

He needs to play with talent to be productive, couple years at $3 I would be happy.

It may just be another skill in his bag of tricks, but I'm impressed by how well he protects the puck.

What a snipe on the GWG today!!!!!

But seriously, Sweeney deserves some credit for this. An upgrade on Hayes is exactly what we need, even if Jimmy's in while Ryan is out.

A few on this board have expressed the desire for the Bruins to acquire him at the deadlines.

I am not one of those so I not beating my own drum.

All I can say, as lucky as that was, theres something he likes about playing in the Gahden.

At least we dont get the short end of that this time.

As far as I'm concerned he's already well worth the price we paid. Hope he can keep it up... Depth guys a la Ryder/Peverley/etc who can score clutch goals can be the difference in every game, or an entire series.

An old pro like Stafford who hasn't been able to sniff a cup is still hungry. It would be ideal if they could shed Beleskey and Haye's salaries and keep Stafford for 2 more years.

Nice to see him no burning the bruins and now other teams.

4 points in 4 games playing on every line imaginable! What's not to like. I liked him in Buff and Winny, he just got pushed out by influx of kids. I like how calm he is with the puck when pressured, he holds, protects, and will even take a hit without giving up the puck.
Another smart acquisition by Sweeney.

Stafford's been much better with Bruins. Looks totally reinvigorated. Maybe he just needed a change of scenery. Maybe he just needed competent coaching. Maybe he just needed different kinds of line mates.

Whatever the reason, I'm very happy that he's working out.

Ok folks, let's say real things. I really love this acquisition, especially for the price we paid, but that was one ****ing lucky goal. I mean the only thing I can credit Drew with was having the smarts to get the puck on goal and I don't want to minimize that, but that was one ****ing lucky goal. With that said Bruins were the better team today so I'm guessing that was just the Hockey gods straightening things out. Down the road these may very well be the 2 points that get us over the top, wouldn't that be something?

Your post seems to imply that there are people out there who don't know that was a lucky goal.

He shook off the defender to get the puck to the goal. Even though he is playing now in the absence of Spooner, I am really considering Stafford a Jimmy Hayes replacement. Hayes would not have gotten even half as far as Drew on that play and would have never created the opportunity to get it to the net.

I really wasn't trying to imply that other people didn't see what I saw.

Now my turn, your post seems to be implying that Hayes is actually an NHL caliber hockey player, most of us know better. Stafford over Hayes, is that seriously something anyone would question?

As happy as I am with the Stafford aquisition and how it turned out, I don't see the need to resign him. We have enough talented forwards in our system who will come cheap and probably turn out to be better than Stafford, so there's no need to spend money on him and deprive one of our prospects of a roster spot.

A vet that is solid for $3 a year hopefully isnt a bad thing.

The kids are great and all but they are just kids and you never know how they will turn out, Bruins have had tonnes of talented prospects that didnt turn out and if youbcan get a guy that has been in the show for a while and can produce 40-50 points isnt such a bad thing.

He could be a 20 goal guy again.

If we were Hayesless and Beleskeyless I would want him however unfortunately nobody will be reaching out for these two plugs. Beleskey is valuable so perhaps we lose him.

If they could sighn him for a season ,wouldn't be opposed to it.

Sweeney sucks terrible trade

Smooth move. Gotta give him credit. I think Don Sweeney nailed this one.

Do you see any chance of an extension for Drew Stafford?

I know that concept wouldn't go over well with those who are very excited about rushing the shiny new toys, but you can see the value in experience and puck trust that this guy delivers.

This team just became immediately better,, and it only cost a 6th.

My only problem with Drew Stafford over the years, is that he's been a bit of a yo-yo for production.

Will end up a 4th.
