Yeah, pump the brakes... One good game, but I don't want to be paying any 3rd liner Hayes money... Or giving anyone more than a year or two to play on the 3rd line. If he continues playing well and wants to stay, by all means sign him for another year if we have a gap. But we have a lot of up and comers who would fit better there. We'll see, at this point he's an excellent deadline acquisition. If he plays well, great, we gave up nothing. If he falls off, too bad, there goes a 6th.

I know it's just one game, but after that debut, I think I'd waive Jimmy Hayes to go to Providence. Maybe you get lucky and someone snags him.

Why, you don't need cap space. He still fulfills the expansion requirements.

Apparently he's washed up. What with only 4 goals and such... :sarcasm:

I totally agree. He seems to be a "plug and play" type of guy where he can be put in many different roles. It's good to have a versatile top 9 winger.

Just curious, why was he having such a tough year in the 'peg? Seemed to have most of his time playing with Schiefele yet couldn't produce.

I'm not sure how many minutes he had with Schiefele, but it wasn't much. He was used all over the lineup just as a spare piece. Didn't play much at all actually.

because if somebody claims him you don't have to figure out how to move his salary in the off-season; which I think they need to do.

Exactly, you don't need the cap space but I think it's time to turn the page on Hayes. If someone wants him, by all means , let him go. Don't see him being productive in Boston.

Couldn't agree with you more. If someone takes him great, if we actually think Vegas would take him we could re-call him at the end of the year.

i would imagine nobody in the NHL (possibly nobody in any level of pro hockey) wants jimmy hayes at 2.3M per year. there's a chance that a team or multiple teams likes him for somewhere close to minimum salary on a prove-it deal, but they would just wait until boston buys him out (which i assume is the plan after he's exposed in the expansion draft). only other option is to find someone that likes him and wants to shed their own contract problem.

Sadly your probably right.

Quote from an article on the Bruins app:

"I thought that he saw me and he did, so I didn't want to let the goalie know I was there," said Spooner, when asked if he was calling for the puck from Stafford. "I was kind of surprised when I got it. I was like, 'Wow this is…' I just didn't want to miss."

It's almost like he never got a pass from Hayes like that...

Look. It may have been ONE game. But he was the most active and engaged. I feel bad for Hayes, but it's sad that one game Stafford gave a better effort and impact on the game than Jimmy has..ever.

It's like going from Jordan Caron to someone who looks like they know what they're doing. Small sample I know, but he looked good out there.

I love people saying "pump the brakes" or "let's not get ahead of ourselves".

Calm down. People are saying he's better than Jimmy Hayes. It's not exactly an unbelievable statement.

Jimmy Hayes syndrome

Here's what Jimmy Hayes syndrome looks like ...

Jimmy Hayes first year in Boston compared to Jimmy Vesey first year in New York ...

Jimmy Hayes: 12GP 4- 7-11
Jimmy Vesey: 12GP 6- 4-10

Jimmy Hayes: 21GP 4- 7-11
Jimmy Vesey: 21GP 7- 5-12

Jimmy Hayes: 24GP 4- 8-12
Jimmy Vesey: 24GP 8- 6-14

Jimmy Hayes: 33GP 5-10-15
Jimmy Vesey: 33GP 10- 7-17

Jimmy Hayes: 35GP 8-11-19 (+1)
Jimmy Vesey: 35GP 10- 7-17 (+2)

Jimmy Hayes: 40GP 10-11-21 (even)
Jimmy Vesey: 40GP 11- 8-19 (-1)

Jimmy Hayes: 45GP 11-11-22 (-5)
Jimmy Vesey: 45GP 11- 8-19 (-8)

Jimmy Hayes: 50GP 11-12-23 (-5)
Jimmy Vesey: 50GP 12- 8-20 (-7)

Jimmy Hayes: 55GP 12-15-27 (-8)
Jimmy Vesey: 55GP 12- 8-20 (-8)

Jimmy Hayes: 60GP 13-16-29 (-6)
Jimmy Vesey: 60GP 13- 9-22 (-9)

Jimmy Hayes: 64GP 13-16-29 (-8)
Jimmy Vesey: 64GP 14-10-24 (-11)

Must be a "Jimmy" thing ...

Stafford had a rare down year for him back in 2012-13 but he rebounded well the following year. Hopefully a change is as good as a rest and he kick starts it here for us now. Sure looked like a good version of himself in his first game for us. Hoping for much more of that

Someone claiming Hayes is about as likely as teams signing me to a PTO. Other teams have scouts too, they aren't going to take millions of dollars of garbage just out of their kindness to the Bruins.

If anyone hampers the Bruins cap, it will be Matt Beleskey, not Jimmy Hayes.

At worst Jimmy can be buried where a significant portion of his cap hit can be buried and an ELC type player can take his place.

As well Jimmy will be in the final year of his deal, so there will be no long Term impact there either.

Since this is the Stafford thread. I would be more receptive to keeping him next season if he plays well, if they can ditch both Beleskey and Hayes opening up two slots. As well I wouldn't want anything over 2 years and would prefer it to be 1. Bruins have more than enough Wingers coming up in the system they don't need people bogging them down.

Pay a third liner "hayes money"....

Guys, it isn't 2009 anymore. Some first line players make 9+ million now....2.3 million for a third liner that's actually good is not a bad deal, in all actuality it can be seen as a good deal.

Not advocating re-signing Stafford as of this moment but it seems, and not just in this thread, that people forget how teams and players alike have driven up salaries past what many got used to
