Stafford definitely qualifies as a deadline day acquisition win for Sweeney. He won't be 32 until the start of next season so if he shows that he has the legs, I'd sign him for 3 years at Hayes money easily.

I am glad you are not the GM. I certainly would not consider signing him for three years. If he plays well, till year end maybe one year to give our young players more time to develope, but that is it. This is not a knock on Stafford . Just good team manegement.

Seriously, THIS!! I agree Stafford had a very good game but where's Lu when you need someone to pump the brakes? Whether he belongs beyond this year still remains to be seen and even if he does we definitely shouldn't be ponying up a multi-year deal for him.

Would love to see Stafford keep Hayes or Beleskey out of the lineup.

The bar is set pretty low to top their performances, surely he can manage. Anything else you get from him is gravy.

I can see him agreeing to one year on short money (2 million or so) so that he can have a good year and cash in on his final big UFA deal of his career

I don't understand why after having so much lack of depth on the wings since the team was playing for championships that you'd be willing to risk letting a proven commodity leave just to potentially have a carousel of rookies or heaven forbid Hayes.

Your telling me that locking up Stafford for 3 years at $2.3 (Hayes money like I said) isn't good management? It would be a damn coup to get him at that. A top six winger that fits nicely on the 3rd line and a great presence on the second pp unit.

I'm just putting up 3 years as a maximum term I'd give to Stafford knowing that he'd probably get offered more elsewhere. Anything less doesn't get it done I'll bet.

Im excited to see what our young guys can do as well but rushing kids isn't great team management either. That's not what teams that want playoff success do

Doesn't that top 6 forward have 4 goals this year?

I don't know why he hasn't produced playing with Scheifele and Ehlers. Some guys just don't fit together is the simple explanation. :dunno:

His track record deserves some benefit of the doubt. And I know it's just one game but he fit with both Spooner and on the pp. I don't think it's an aberration. His got great hockey sense and that's what makes me think he'd make a good fit on the right side for the next several years

You got him for nothing! The steal of deadline day.....not really sure why nobody wanted him.

Apparently he's washed up. What with only 4 goals and such... :sarcasm:

I totally agree. He seems to be a "plug and play" type of guy where he can be put in many different roles. It's good to have a versatile top 9 winger.

Just curious, why was he having such a tough year in the 'peg? Seemed to have most of his time playing with Schiefele yet couldn't produce.

One game. One good game. First game for a new team. He played nice. Lets give him some time before thinking about signing him with hayes and belesky in our lineup.

So far no reason to change it up. Give him 2pp time. Not a fan than it was cehlarik who got bumped off the pp for him it looked like, but not sure who you move off the pp.

I just remember Stempniak having 7 points in his first few games also. I'll wait and see but he did look good.

I prefaced my comments by saying that if he manages to be able to keep up with the play, he'll be a good solution as Spooners winger. The legs are generally the first thing to go for any athlete and it looks like he's still got good wheels.

Stempniak Played well for a stretch with Bergy but he definitely couldn't sustain his production

Still floored they called that goal back after the refs emphatically ruled it a good goal on the ice.

Those are the kind of goals the Bruins need more of and yet they seem to always be called back

I don't know how to embed but this is what I dug up.

All even strength time, 2016 - 2017 season

23.7% Ehlers and Schiefefe
21.9% Lowry and Mathias
20.2% Perrault and Wheeler

Percentages dont show the whole story. He played 96 minutes with schiefele. If you look he has an even amount with a lot of Jets. Shows he was moved around a lot.

As well 23% wouldnt be the most of his time. Its a small fraction of the overall.
