Batherson was off to a great start of the yr until they lost Norris, their #1 centre. Then they brought up Stutzle, but the 2nd line wasn't working. Then they moved Batherson to the 2nd line & Giroux up & it took a while for that second line to jell. Now we are starting to see that 2nd line play much better & Bath & Cat starting to jell together along with a rookie centre Pinto. We are seeing some great things from this team & they are getting the experience & learning to win. They need to reduce their mistakes which will reduce their goals against by being much harder to play against & playing more agressively. They have weaknesses that need to be addressed but that can only be corrected in time as their players heal from injury & return.

Batherson is better when he plays a much more aggressive game & hits more. But he has some of the best hands on this team & vision to make some great plays & passes.

He definitely gets doppy out there - might sound odd but Norris is a competitor and I think he would be the one getting Batherson going - might miss having Norris there to raise the intensity.

He’s starting to heat up and I’m loving it. Leading the team in PPG

If he gets back to where he was last season before he got Dell’d watch out.

Another frustrating game on his stick, and those Grade A’s being the difference yet again in getting points and losing

Multiple grade A chances he didn't convert on. But it wasn't just Bath.

That is a common theme for everyone on this team. DeBrincat, Stutzle and Giroux are more guilty of this than Batherson. Giroux, I feel is invisible half the game. Sometimes I even forget that he is playing

Tkachuk is the only one who is converting on his grade A chances, hence leading in points. Batherson is actually 2nd on that list, when it comes to converting on grade A chances

I guess. But Batherson had glorious chances, and the game was there for the taking. The 4 on 1 that he screwed up hurt especially after missing the Grade A on the shift before. Sure, DeBrincat had a few opportunities, but Batherson's were higher quality, IMO. And when we don't convert, it really costs this team.

the team didn't play all that great

good players will get chances and miss. Thats why they are good cause they know where to. go on the ice. The problem is the Sens just played poorly for most of the game

If you are specially talking about last nights game then I don't see why get so worked up over just 1 game. Anyone can have a forgettable game or two or three, through the course of the season

But, if you're going to say Batherson is be doing this the most through this season, then I will have to disagree, and point at some of his teammates, that I have already mentioned earlier

There are times when you can't discuss a player without bringing other players into the conversation to understand the context better\. Are you telling me that if I go to Stutzle thread, I won't find any post mentioning Norris or any other player?

He's playing better. I have been more concerned about how he had been playing vs missing on a couple of chances. Chances are good.

Where did I say he isn't good. He is very good. But he also cost the team a point and scoring first could have changed the dynamics of the game. Hell, it could have been 2-0. Star players have higher expectations and should meet them. That is what makes them stars.

I will let everyone else argue about Holden, Kelly and Gambrell

I will absolutely say that he had a horrific 15 game stretch. From the trip in Florida to most recently looking like his normal self. Horrific turnovers. Lackadaisical backcheck. awful coverage in his own zone. And I don't care about points. You look at wins and losses. This team, mainly due to Batherson and DeBrincat, torpedoed this first bit of the season. Again, they are stars, and they have to produce and perform.

When you lose 1 goal games, as badly and consistently as Ottawa did, you can't help but looking at a single play or two that could have meant points. And both he and Cat killed them in those one goal games. Fair or not, that is how it is in professional sports.

It doesn't mean trade him, or he isn't good. Drake is a phenomenal player and clearly has a lot on his mind. No doubt that Minnesota coincided with updated news about London. Sports can be unfair, and I am being unfair . But he has to be better (and has been in a short sample size)

Why are we a league worst 5 on 5 shooting %

Two Batherson plays
and one DeBrincat play from yesterday is why
Unfair? Slightly. Aboslutely true?

YES.

He's never been a particularly good defensive player but this year he just seems next level bad like he's forgotten even the most basic things.

He reminds me a bit of how Karlsson would have lapses where he just didn't seem to have his head in the game defensively but it's all the freaking time.

What can you say...killing this team at times. This is how he was starting in Florida and it is creeping back into his game

The Morrisey goal was particularly poorly played. The Morrisey pass to Connor he doesn't recognize his man in coverage is Morrisey until its too late. This sorting has been problematic all year in the Dzone. Not sure what the message is to the players. Here he has to recognize Morrisey and allow Pinto to pressure Demelo. Obviously he is high man but I hope he is not being told that's his assignment.

One burning question for tonight's game.

Do the Sens give Batherson the assignment to shut down Alex Ovechkin? most likely not .. the top option Watson is more likely.

I think we should move him while he has value.

lol wtf

You’ve been insisting on our internal cap and league wide cap crunch and now you come up with this

Let’s trade the contract where we save basically 3 M$ per season!

Batherson is doing well offensively, his problem is on the other side of the puck. He’s not the only one struggling in that aspect; DeBrincat doesn’t have good metrics too.

I would look at the coaching staff and management first; they have shown through time that they have no idea how to improve that very important aspect of the game. I mean we have a GM who just traded an’ highly effective duo

Dj’s systems (or lack thereof?) are just efficient working well defensively
