I like the kid. He works hard every shift and as the season progressed Hunter gave him more responsibility and he responded especially in the playoffs

If there is some upside there, I will take it.

More annoyed with the projection of where he'd go and we couldn't squeeze another pick out of it.

Although, that needs a trading partner.

The 2015/16 Knights were far more talented than the 22/23 version. That Marner won MVP putting up 2.4PPG doesn't say anything about the type of player that Cowan is.

Let's see how his production fares this upcoming season, when he plays a larger role on the team.

Like Treliving said, they see upside in him.

The point is that playoff success in a Junior league doesn't translate to becoming a clutch playoff performer in a league 5 tiers higher, in the best league in the world.

Nadeau wh

Nadeau has elite skills was picked at 30. Cowan was a reach any way you slice it. There will be some first line players drafted after Cowan.
And there will be first line players taken after Nadeau too, no one knows this late who they are or they would have been taken at the top already.

My guy, i understand Cristall has insane skill. But why have 29 picks gone and he’s still not picked? There’s something about him teams are clearly projecting as a deficiency.
He can't skate. Great IQ but if you have no reasonable way to create separation at the NHL level your game is gonna be limited as a playmaker.

I bet AI could do a better job picking. It'd just compile lists based on other pro scouts lists and also see who is getting talked about in forums etc the most.

I like how people who know NOTHING about this pick are shitting on this pick.

I'm not going to say it's a good or bad pick, because I don't know if it's a good or bad pick because I don't know if it's a good or bad pick, could be a superstar, could be a bust, could be something in between.

I nwill admit I didn't think they would keep the pick, and I was OK with that because this team is in win now mode.

I'm also OK with the fact they used it at some point you do need to put some prospects back into the system.

People have been shitting on Brad today can we relax a little bit? and give it some time?

the man just got here give him some time.

So much wasted rage energy being spent on this when you could save it all for the captain hindsight rant at the players who won't be taken until rounds 4, 5 or even 7 go on to have perennial all star seasons in 10 years from now...

Cowan isn’t a first line player.

How do you know? He could totally be. Go watch the kids shot. He’s got a laser, pretty good skater and drives to the middle of the ice.

Do we need him to be a first line guy anyways? We got Knies on the left.

It is always better to do your own digging than rely on others projections, or xProjections/60 on where a player should go.

By all accounts he's a gamer who can play up and down the lineup. We don't need 12 Marners on the roster. Take a look at the contributions that guys like Hyman and Bunting can make. I get that's not the highest upside, but could still be a very, very useful player if he can develop into an NHLer.

Could have used Nadeau or Gulyayev. Much more upside.

OR you trade down to grab extra picks in the second or third rounds and take Cowan at 45.

Knies, Minten, Cowan

Not the most obvious picks at first, but I think they all add an extra dimension that our team and prospect pool has been lacking. I dont mind having these kind of players in the pipline. It's not like there were any obvious choice at 28. Sounds like Cowan was a late riser and the scouting staff didnt want to risk trading down and missing out.

really hope treliving purges leafs of everything and anything soo related that was burdened on the franchise by dubas
Starting to think the staff is fine and Dubas and Shanahan were galaxy braining everything.

Not sold on Treliving yet.
