Because despite being a complete player I don't see him as having anymore then a 3rd line upside. I'll be more then happy to be wrong but there was a few other players I would have preferred.
By the time you get to the 28th pick it’s a crap shoot anyway. I think it’s worth the risk.
Dubas gutted our draft picks for this year so might as well take a big swing

This is a dubas sabotage. wes clark on purpose did this to screw the leafs

What a freakin' JOKE!

Should have traded down for a couple picks and gambled with those give dubas has basically emptied the cupboards.

Treliving not impressed at all. Make some decisions ffs

Fire the scouting staff. If I remember correctly it's more efficient to simply take the public scouting lists and put them together to make a master list. You pick based off those consolidated rankings and you usually do really well.

I think someone here compiled it and it was more hits than misses, way better than our staff.

He has an outside shot as a 2nd liner but with his size you’d like to see more productivity. It should be noted that this was his rookie year in the OHL and he progressed throughout the season. He was one of the better players in the OHL playoffs. That being said I wouldn’t have taken him over Heidt.

Where has regular season production gotten the Leafs recently?

Don't discount a guy who brings the heat when the goIng gets tough. You need a variety of different skill-sets to succeed and Cowan sounds like a guy who could complement a skill-heavy roster very well.

Marner literally won playoff MVP for the Knights in 2016, how's that working out?

The kids production f***ing sucks and he was a massive reach, that's just our organization now.

Oh, Minten f***ing sucks too btw.

What he was projected to go by non NHL scouts and where he was picked matters far less than what he does going forward from today. And realistically it's pick #28, you aren't drafting a ready made superstar from day 1 here. You would have to gut the roster and suffer for 5 more years of ineptitude as many of you seem eager to do.
