Speculation: Draft Thread 2018-19: Part X (No Kakko/Hughes Talk) - Post Your Mock Draft

If i'm getting rid of an RHD, it's 100% Pionk. Either run w/ a D core of Tony, Shatty, Fox, or (if we trade for him) Trouba, Tony, Shatty. Trade Shattenkirk at the TDL w/ 50% retention to a contender.

Cozens has never been seriously considered 3rd since his U18 performance. He's in that third tier now after Byram/Turcotte.
 
Sent a few messages to Larry Fisher about the Cozens suit thing. He heard the interaction from someone else, who he considers a reliable source (obviously won’t name) but he also mentioned that there are a lot of fake rumors around this time, though this source has been a good one in the past. Larry also has connections to people in Lethbridge and covered them for 2 years while he was in college there.
None of this info is really big but he says the Rangers are the highest on Cozens followed by Detroit, a distant second. He says that EDM media has heard/entertained the idea of a deal around 8th overall to the Rangers. He also believes this interaction took place after the lottery and that the source made it seem relevant/recent

Side note on Cozens- there can't be very many NHL players that were born in the Yukon Territories.

Depends on the trade up cost, but you could do a lot worse leaving a draft with Kakko and Cozsens.

I've been on the Cozens train for a while. To me a Kreider to Edmonton deal involving the #8 has always made the most sense. To me, there's no hesitation on Kreider's part to sign for 6-7 years with Edmonton to play with the best player in the game. Those two speedsters playing together would be a beautiful thing to watch.

I'd be happy with a few different players at number 8 if we end up with that pick. I'm still not sure Cozens drops to 8, but I guess we'll see.
 
I'm fairly certain that @Edge mentioned we were high on Cozens for awhile now and that's someone we'd likely target at 6 or lower if we didn't move up in the lottery. So, I certainly buy the idea of us liking him. Whether it's enough to pay the price to move up 12 slots or so is another question entirely.

I think McDavid and Kreider together would be lethal but whether Kreider would re-sign with them is a possible sticking point. I think Ken Holland would want to know before he made that deal.....but great if it happens.

Cozens might not be available at 8--if Cozens, Dach, Turcotte and Zegras are all gone by 8 then the Rangers are left with Newhook or a winger like Boldy, Podkolzin or Caufield.

I'm certain such a trade would only be made during the time they are on the clock if they only want Cozens ay 8. If they have a few targets, it's a trade I can see happening before the draft.

My friend came away impressed every time he watched him. Small, shifty and slick hands. Says he'd be a steal in the mid rounds and will be an NHL player. He said this with a lot of conviction.

Lol, did you really actually write that? :P Bigger chance we all die via aliens tomorrow than that happening. Cozens is purely if we moved up.

If the Rangers bought Cozens a suit then they did a classy thing.

I love that kid, but I wouldn't read too much into the interaction if the Rangers dont draft him. There's free agency years down the line. The business of hockey is deep in relationships and the Rangers making a gesture to build a relationship with a guy like Cozens is a great move.

Lol, you do realize with all due respect that's as irrational of a fear as you can possibly have, right? Even more so than passing on Kakko for Byrma/Turcotte (which is also 0%). Some really think we're some dumb organization. You really think Gorton/JD are that bad at their jobs?

The worst GMs in the world wouldn't pass on Kakko. This is different from picking 7th or 9th or whatever.

It depends on what kind of pick they can cash Kreider out for, if they can get Avs at 16 or (obviously) Flyers at 11, it should be easy to trade up. If no one's biting and he's only worth a really low first rounder, maybe you talk about that thing with the Oilers or you don't bother.

Even Chiarelli drafted Seguin 2nd overall. Bob confirmed awhile ago we aren't going off the board. JD/Gorton/Drury have all pretty much said we're taking one of them without officially saying as such. You're going to make yourself irrationally worried for no reason.
