I should have never read it. I'll now have a little over 5 days to get it out of my head.
Lol, I mean fair enough, but even just using the context of the article, it explicitly states it would be at 8, so read it again if you like and you'd still get the obvious and logical answer of being interested with our other pick in a move up.

Shattenkirk isn't waiving to go to Edmonton. He squashed a deal there previously and it's been widely speculated that all of the Canadian teams are on his no-trade list.

I don't love Cozens, but he'll be a good NHL player. I don't really see him as a big-time point guy but instead a really good #2C who can play all situations and score 25g and 55p pretty consistently. I've just never really seen the creativity from him that I'd look for in a top-line center prospect.

Obviously the Rangers have been heavily linked to him on this board and they signed his line mate so we know they've at least seen a lot of him. Still don't think that we make great trading partners with the Oilers, however. Most of the pieces we have to offer would jump ship from that place as soon as they could.

I dunno man, Kravtsov certainly wasn't a name that was especially "popular"
Writing was on the wall though, kind of. We knew that Bob uses the Rangers as one of his teams and he mentioned the Kravstov got a top 5 vote IIRC from one team in his final list (this being us, of course).

Would Kreider really be so quick to jump ship playing on a line with McDavid?

Oilers and Ranger's would make great trading partners for both teams. Rangers are still looking for 1 or 2 more very good prospects, and Oilers should be doing what they can to please McDavid and get the Oilers back to the playoffs and stop trying to rebuild 10 years in a row.

Well I don't think it's a given that he plays with McDavid. Draisaitl plays with McDavid and scored 50 goals so they don't need another winger for that line. What they need is depth scoring and competent wingers for RNH. The "Omg he's the perfect winger for McDavid" narrative is really just a sales pitch for us to make. They already have the perfect winger for McDavid in Draisaitl.

The other, perhaps more obvious issue is that it's Edmonton. It's not a destination city and not a place I can see an east-coast kid 12 months away from free agency electing to stay in for longer than he has to.

I think people think Edmonton is a perfect trade partner for us because we think they're desperate. Not because we're actually perfect trading partners.

Not saying they are desperate...but they really need to make the playoffs soon.

I think from Edmonton's perspective we're a good place to try to dump Lucic. Big spending team, not trying to contend in the short-term, crystal-clear cap situation in two years. We don't desperately need a huge guy who sucks, but there have been posts on here calling for Ryan Reaves for example. If there's any place at all for those guys in the league it's on the fourth line on a team of 20 year olds.

But all those expensive defensemen we can use as make-weights have no-trades, and there's no reason for Kreider to re-up. And yeah, the "Kreider and McDavid will have great chemistry because both guys are fast" thing is a big simplification

He's not going anywhere anytime soon. Demanding a trade after they just overhauled the front office and coaching staff wouldn't go over very well.
Maybe not today, but if they still arent in the playoffs in 2 more years? They need to stop with the rebuilding, trade away their top picks and bring in NOW players.

Sure, but I think they could manage to get a young player under team control for the 8th overall pick. Everyone is hung up on Kreider to Edmonton, but Buchnevich makes a heck of a lot more sense for them.

I think the Rangers would like a player like Lucic in the lineup. A guy who can answer the bell so kids like Lemieux don't have to. They've had guys like McQuaid, Glass, and McLeod under contract for that exact reason. Is a guy like that going to prevent players from getting hurt? No, but will kids feel a little more confident with him in the lineup? Absolutely.

That being said, there's a lot left on that Lucic contract and he has a full NMC, so he'd need to be protected in the expansion draft. They'd need to be very sure that they can manage that term and get a guarantee that he'll waive protection for Seattle. Hell, maybe the Rangers could pay Seattle to take him for the last two years of his contract. They get a sweetener and Lucic gets to be closer to home to finish out his career.

I'm not entirely sold that Kreider alone would net the 8th overall in this situation...especially considering Kreider could test free agency. I'm thinking we might have to add a little sweetener, especially since we'd be getting a blue-chip prospect. Kreider and Pionk (which I would gladly do) for the 8th is my guess. Pionk would be an interesting add for the Oilers, considering their D situation isn't exactly great.

His career has come exactly as most thought it would. He is a legit top line player. If each time a franchise's first round forward would turn out exactly like Kreider, it would probably the most successful franchise in the NHL.

I am not talking about his expectations before he actually suited up as a Ranger. I am talking about the expectations after he played here for a season.

If you are going to tell me that the second part of what I wrote is inaccurate, I would say you weren't on this board, then, but you were

They would never trade away the 8th overall pick for Buch. That would be a terrible deal for them. He's still hasn't proved anything more than being a ok second line player. Kreider brings speed which fits McDavid like a glove, and is a 1st line player. Adding Kreider gives them 2 very good top lines with McDavid/ Draisaitl/ RNH/ Kreider . Mix and match as you please

Doesn't he still have 4 years left? How could we possibly make that work?

I didn't say they would trade the 8th overall for Buchnevich, just that he makes more sense than Kreider.
