Dach is my number 1 priority if we finish in the 5-9 range again. But we are gonna be having wet dreams of winning the lottery leading up to the end of the season because Hughes and Kakko are absolute units.

still watching the russian dorofeyev produce and continue to show those high end skills. and that skating is intoxicating.

he a points machine and a quiet riser. not alot of buzz but those in the know have eyes on him.

gonna be a guy who will shoot up as we go though the year.

I think he's on less radars because of the MHL thing, and because Podkolzin is drawing a lot of the attention to start the year.

Dach is a kid with a lot of upside, but one who also didn't wow me last season.

Maybe I went in expecting a little more, but there were a lot of more areas that were works in progress than I expected --- his skating, shooting, positioning, etc.

So to start the season, I have him ranked a little below a few other guys, but definitely in the top 10 conversation. If he progresses and those various components come together a little more, he's definitely a kid who could climb the rankings.

I'll be interested to see how both Dach and Cozens perform throughout the year. Heading in, Cozens would probably be ahead on most lists. But you potentially have 3 WHL kids (along with Byram) who could reasonably challenge for the second pick in the draft.

Additionally, because of the nature of the top of this draft, any of them could also have a great season and still be there at 7 or even 10.

I wouldn't count out Krebs either.

I've been so impressed by him!! He takes the game on his stick every time and doesn't disappoint. I think he's the driving force of the Sheshin and Spiridonov line, and they, too, seem like good prospects.

He's still in juniors, though. I want to see what he can do at the next level!!

I like a couple of the Fins in Jr. A, too!!

I totally agree on those three mentioned, sick offensive talents.

Kakko
Hughes
Dach

Podkolzin said in an interview that he has little desire to come over to NA until he's a man, and doesn't want to play in the AHL

Gotta think that hurts his stock a bit

Kinda similar to Buch, although I doubt Podkolzin drops that much

Wouldn’t shock me to see him fall as far as Tarasenko/Kuznetsov, maybe even a little later if he spends the whole season in the MHL

Yeah

I'm a bit hesitant to take him with our first pick, if it could take like 3 years for him to hit NA ice, but if he's still available in the later part of the first round where the Rangers will almost assuredly have another pick or two, I'm taking him and not thinking twice

I think the Rangers, at the very least, will have two firsts and two seconds in this draft.

If Tampa actually wins a cup, I could see a scenario where it's 3 firsts.

Do you think the team will shoot for more NHL ready prospects in trades?

If Hayes and Zucc are moved, I would assume each would bring back a 1st in whatever package they get moved for

But I could see a scenario where they push for more proven prospects instead

I don't know if there's that big "package" deal out there to be had with picks and prospects for a vet.

If Zucc has a strong season, and the Rangers indeed look to move him --- as I suspect they will, he might be able to land a first and a prospect package. But I'm not 100 percent certain of that right now. If I had to guess, I think Zucc probably brings back a first and a third, or something along those lines.

With Hayes, it depends on a number of factors --- I'm not as certain he gets moved if he has a strong season. But let's assume that Hayes is on a 55 point pace heading into the deadline, and the Rangers decide to move him, I would venture a guess that the Rangers would probably look at any potential trade as the "package deal" type.

this isnt surprising at all. always has been the elephant in the room. its the new "russian factor". its not whether they come over but when and its always when they can fulfill their contract after getting paid and when they feel ready to step right in and play.

he said what has been known for awhile. young russians want no part of coming over until they can step right in the the nhl and play. the ahl is a non starter for them. period. do not kid yourself. ahl = no thanks to these kids.

stay home and get paid then come over. thats the plan. always has been.

many young russians who come over to play major junior either arent highly considered prospects or dont think they can get the contract over there.

either way, what he said should surprise no one.

I definitely agree, if they just end up having their first and a like #26-31 first and he’s sitting there at 20 I wouldn’t even mind trading up to get him

I think Hayes and Zucc being traded fit the mold of the Rangers “rebuild”. I could also see Vesey being traded, but that depends on his season. If I remember correctly, Vesey had some buzz in the offseason over Spooner and Namestikov. So if I had to guess they will again have 3 picks in the first and possibly 4 if Tampa wins. I would be thrilled to get Kakko but I would be happy with Newhook or Turcotte too. Ive got my fingers crossed for a top 3 pick.

Newhook apparently dominated last night. I’ll try to find highlights. He’s only at 10 points through 8 games right now.

Doing some research today and should note the following for this draft class....

- Already noted above, but Cozens, Suzuki and Dach have had blazing hot starts this year in the WHL

- Kakko, Honka and Kokkonen have been putting up points and playing well. Think they solidified their roster spots for the year

- Newhook is dominating the BCHL

- Nikkanen is splitting time, ATM, bewteen Jr. A and Liiga. Also, doesn't look bad to start.

- Cajkovic has had a strong start in the QMJHL since coming over from Europe

- Holmstrom has an UBI and is sidelined until early to mid October

- Broberg made AIK and is playing is Allsvenskan

- Podkolzin looks like the next Malkin out in the MHL

- Hughes, C. Caufield, Boldy and York are above PPG with the USNTDP, as of today. Turcotte just at PPG

- Knight, although two games in, has a 1.97 GPA and a .944 SV%.

- Couple of other goalies with good starts are Dustin Wolf (WHL), Boston Bilous (WHL), Nolan Maier (WHL), Hunter Jones (OHL), and Hugo Alnefelt (SuperElit)

- Loving the SSD (Spiridonov-Sheshin-Dorofeyev) line with Stalnye Lisy in the MHL. Dorofeyev is above PPG, Spiridonov is almost at PPG and Sheshin isn't far behind, either.

Will post some video later :)

Nice work!

A couple small corrections though. Newhook's 10 points in 8 games isn't that impressive. The last two high pick forwards out of the BCHL, Turris and Jost, were both over 2PPG. He's going to need to pick it up, although I'm sure he will.

The NTDP season hasn't started. Those are preseason games. Actually, it looks like there might be some early NTDP injuries before the season starts. Turcotte and Zegras are out right now, along with Weight and Gildon. Weight was injured pretty bad a week ago. He two handed a player in the back of the neck after a big hit on one of his teammates, and then a lot of players on the other team proceeded to absolutely maul him. Really dumb decision from him. Totally overreacted, and the other team reacted with incredible rage. The type of play you never like seeing.

Yes rent him to Tampa to make sure they win that cup - win win situation for us also related to our conditional pick in 2019 draft. ;)

There are about 5 teams who can win the cup now Sharks, Leafs, Pens, Caps, and Tampa are among my favorite teams to win it this year, but question is if they can create cap space for such a rent move. Maybe leafs with the best rent option since they have some cap available even if they should sign W Nylander. But there are other teams like Jets, Oilers, or Vegas who can surprise me, and Vegas did exactly that last season.

Leafs aren't winning anything until they fix that blue line.
