Could you imagine a tandem of Shestyorkin and Knight for five years? I think that would guarantee us the playoffs every year. It'll only cost a first round pick. I'd gladly give over Lundkvist or Miller to get that tandem.

My boy Kirby Dach starting the year off with 7 points in 2 games.
He’s already matched ~40% of his goal output this season (which came in his most recent game).

I caught some of the first game against SC, and he had a few really good shifts. I wish I would’ve tuned in to see him score the hatty and add two apples

I wouldn't. All three are unproven, ATM. Let's see what happens during the season.

But if Knight pans out, which is looking likely, that'd be scary!!

I'm lower on those two than the Rangers.

The way I look at it, likely elite NHL goalie who is being very undervalued compared to two mid-tier defense prospects with middle pairing potential.

I'm taking Knight.

It's early in the season, but he might be my guy. I'm a sucker for a kid that can play in traffic and create space for himself, and Dach has the hands and vision to create after he does it. When he fully fills out and gets some man-strength he's going to be a monster.

He’s Scheifele 2.0, IMO. It’ll be interesting to see who performs best between him and Cozens.

Definitely a lot of similarities between the two. I think Scheifele is a little slipperier and dynamic in open ice though. Dach definitely has that awkward stride that a lot of big guys have when they get up to speed, but he also grew 2+ inches and added 20lbs between the end of the 2017 season and this summer. He looks much more balanced to me this year. Might be getting his feet under him.

The best part? If the Rangers had been keeping tabs on Hajek for a while then you know they saw a lot of him in Saskatoon.

Now you did it. You had to compare him Schiefele. Now I’m interested.

You should’ve always been interested. He’s in that top-10 range and a realistic target for where we’ll pick. Like Trxjw said, we’ve seen a lot of him already since he played with Hajek.

Anyone ever get to see Case McCarthy and Moritz Seider? I've only read a little about em

I've seen McCarthy play a number of times. Seider, unfortunately not yet, but the highlights are impressive.

I think Seider is a late first/early second type of prospect right now, but there could be volatility in his ranking this season because most haven't actually seen him play and he's pretty much an unknown. McCarthy looks like a late second type of prospect. Could push his way up towards the beginning of the second with a good season or could fall back into the third with a bad season.

Skill-set wise, Seider seems to have decent skill, skating and a good defensive game, but completely unproven against top competition. I like McCarthy's game, but I'm not sure he's more than an average skater or there's significant offense in his game.

@Mac n Gs started it.

He's definitely not wrong though. Dach has a lot of the traits I really loved about Scheifele in his draft year. He handles the puck well in traffic. He can handle and dish the puck very well with his arms out in front of him, but he can also do it with his hands in close to his body. He can separate the puck from players along the wall, create space, and generate chances or break out of the zone. He has a good 200ft game and projects very favorably as a center in the NHL.

He looks like his skating has improved over the summer, and he might be growing into his frame a bit more. If he can have a big season offensively, I can easily see him going in the top-3. The only real knocks are him are his stride and that some would like to see more of a physical game from him. That and he could definitely stand to shoot more. His release is a little bit slow, but he has an accurate shot with very good velocity.

Has that been done recently? I think the last 2+ppg player in a D-1 season from the Q was either Drouin or MacK when they were destroying the league on Halifax together.

I'd say it's probable for Lafreniere.

Drouin was >2 (2.12) but MacKinnon didn't even break 1.8 (1.77). Both stay about the same if you exclude the playoffs, though MacKinnon's numbers become slightly worse (1.70).

Dach is a kid with a lot of upside, but one who also didn't wow me last season.

Maybe I went in expecting a little more, but there were a lot of more areas that were works in progress than I expected --- his skating, shooting, positioning, etc.

So to start the season, I have him ranked a little below a few other guys, but definitely in the top 10 conversation. If he progresses and those various components come together a little more, he's definitely a kid who could climb the rankings.

I'll be interested to see how both Dach and Cozens perform throughout the year. Heading in, Cozens would probably be ahead on most lists. But you potentially have 3 WHL kids (along with Byram) who could reasonably challenge for the second pick in the draft.

Additionally, because of the nature of the top of this draft, any of them could also have a great season and still be there at 7 or even 10.

Remember that this is Lafrenieres D - 1 season, Drouin was over 2 PPG in his draft year, Lafreniere is potentially on a completely different level as a prospect and he will be so much fun to follow.
