By buried, I mean take the full cap hit, but use the roster spot for someone who can develop and is NHL ready, whether that be Lindgren or Rykov.
Which is what? You send him to the AHL or buy him out? And again, IMO both options are pure fantasy land.
Rykov is a better and more NHL-ready prospect than Lindgren in my opinion.
Based on what? Lindgren is ready to take a regular shift as a third pairing d-man now.

He's not a big tough d-man à la Seidenberg for example ... he's a big two-way D with great puck handling. The kid is all over German hockey this season as a 17 year old, he's not exclusively a crease-clearer.

I guess it goes:

Byram
Broberg
Soderstrom
then it gets closer and closer between York Heinola and Seider.

I think York goes sooner than a lot of people on this board think. I think he could slip into the top 10, otherwise early teens.

If we pick Seider with the Jets or the Dallas(knock on Sherwood) pick, does he go to Owen Sound or Hartford?

Tough call, I'd err on the side of not rushing. How does a German men's league compare to the CHL? I'd probably try to push him to Owen Sound. However, you can bring him to camp and get a look at him first right? He'd be a pro at that point. I just wouldn't be crazy seeing him in the ECHL.

Power forwards are the highest risk when adjusted by position. Size is the easiest thing to understand so lazy or stupid scouts can prioritize it. Hockey sense is the hardest to understand so only the best scouts ID it, which is why when we took Stepan in the second, this board exploded: "Who?! F'ing tap dancer?"

Big guys always get ranked a bunch of spots above where they belong, excluding guys you see at the very top (first 2-3 picks). I wouldn't draft monsters unless we are absolutely certain of them.

Yes, i agree. Definately tough to gauge power forwards or Dmen for their size/strength. GM's, Scouts, Coaches at every level etc...They are still all over the size factor, and as a result make bad decisions for the "What could be"

I think a lot of the decision process is also based on what you have to work with. If you have a player with size, a player with skating and one who is cerebral you take that risk all day long. To add to that, when you have a player who has a motor and plays with the "edge"...that's a guy i burn a pick on all day long. Especially when you have extra picks. I look at the players we have in the system. Some really nice talent already here, or coming soon. I see one player here who fits the mold of power forward, and he is more of an agitator then a PF(Lemieux). But...he can play a heavy game. Playoffs are such a great example of needing players that can play a heavier game when it matters. We have Chytil here. He's got all the skill in the world. He just has to put it together. We have Kravtsov coming as well. Another player with elite skill. We don't how he is going to do here but we know we have a super skilled forward who the org is hoping will slide into a top 6 role. We have #1 C (Zbad), who here but has shown he can handle that role moving forward. We have 1 physical player in the top 6 who everyone wants to trade #20. If the club does get back into playoff mode, how are these guys going to play a heavy game? Lias might be able to at some point. Howden? Hmm, i dont think so. Boo is physical, he also has a mess of concussions. Our current defense doesn't have a truly physical player. Lindgren is likely the most physical of the D prospects. He doesnt have any room to make this squad unless trades are made.

Rangers have the #2 pick. Its likely going to be Kakko. He's a beast. He's going to be a pain in the ass to contain...At least that is what he has shown so far. He would also probably be the clubs most physical forward in it's top 6. He balances the future top 6 put a but. It can't be just him.

I think rolling the dice on a physical player while there are a few available in this draft is something the club should absolutely do when assesing the current roster and where the teams prospect base will be in 3 years from now. In round 1 or 2, i'm all for the idea of one of Seider, Beecher, Lavoie, or Leason type of a player.

The hard part is...At age 17, or 18 its super hard to gauge who is cerebral and who isn't. They're just kids!

I'm not saying I think the Rangers are going to move Staal to the AHL. I think he stays up. They are willing to bury Smith's contract in the AHL. They've already done it. It's not fantasy land. Why are you calling it fantasy land? There is no reason to buy either Staal or Smith out this season.

Rykov is a year further along in his development than Lindgren, had a more impressive 2018-2019 season, is just just as solid defensively, and is more of a contributor offensively.

Seider, Korczak, Helleson, Moberg, Case McCarthy, Ryan Siedem to name a few if we're talking about guys with size. Really only the first two guys mentioned are projected to go in the first two rounds. On the other hand there a quite a few intriguing lefty D that will be available throughout, as well as a few more right shot puck moving D who happen to be more in the mould of Fox or Pionk in terms of size. There are also some intriguing righty shot forwards as well, so would hate for them to target a specific need with the Wpg pick or the seconds. Go bpa above need.

there is a huge difference in rankings there though...seider is probably gone before we pick. korczak could be a late 1st but the others could still be there in the 3rd round. so not really comparable alternatives

I wouldn't even consider owen sound an option. for a kid that big that has been playing against men in a pro league, I don't see what he'd gain by going to juniors to play against little kids. he'd put up numbers but not sure how that would make him better...

I would leave him in europe for now...preferably finding a spot for him in one of the better leagues (shl) if you can. if not then 1 more year in germany won't hurt him but he's in the AHL as a 19 year old. in a better league over there I might let him bake their longer

That’s my point, very few alternatives all through this draft and far spaced out, so don’t force a righty d pick.

i don't think anyone is forcing it...the way things are shaping up if seider is there when the jets pick come up he's likely the BPA. and after the world championships are done I don't think there is much chance of him being there and if we want him we'll need to trade up. whether or not he's worth it is another debate, but this isn't us going after a guy that shouldn't be drafted in that spot

Mine too. Must have gone through a hundred over the years, at least. Their sticks varied in weight and had the best curve selection. I didn't use much of a curve in a time when it seemed like everyone was bending the hell outta them.[/QUOTE

Koho all the way. The just legal curve that easily bent illegal with a little lean on it. Just right for snapping wristers up high and slap shots that could end up anywhere. My brother swore by Sherwood. I think he had the Tkachuk which was relatively flat but with a big bend right at the end for cleaning up in front of the net. When my son is ready, I am buying a case of twigs to get him through youth leagues up to midget. Maybe by then I'll only need a second mortgage to buy a composite stick.

Has anyone heard any whispers of a new coach for Hartford? Definitely need someone who specializes in development.

from Larry's latest

3. Gorton last week told The Post the Rangers would wait until the hiring of a president to succeed Glen Sather to begin their search for a head coach and staff for the AHL Wolf Pack following the dismissal of Keith McCambridge and his assistants. Bolstering the operation in Hartford, where the club has missed the playoffs the last four seasons, will be a major priority for the organization.

Dallas first rounder dream is out of the window, now watch us trash the 2nd rounder to move up 2-3 spots.
