As exciting as Newhook has been of late I think the wiser option would be the package, too. I'm still not entirely sold on Newhook. I'm rooting for him to have a great development, but it's tough to trade up for a potential boom/bust player when two safe bets at their potentials are around at those picks. The draft is always unpredictable, though.

With that said, I can also see NYR trading up with their assets because of how quickly they captured one of the best prospect pools in the league. They really have nothing to lose. I trust in Gordie, mainly Bobrov and Co. to get at it!!

I would love Newhook at 18-21 but if it's Suzuki + Seider for Newhook, then no. I don't think that is the wisest asset management. I'm really crossing my fingers Newhook falls to our WPG pick. It could happen if there is a glut of teams desperately trying to draft themselves the best d-man. If the top 11 are Hughes, Kakko, Turcotte, Cozens, Dach, Krebs, Zegras, Caufield, Boldy, Podkolzin, and Byram (no particular order) and the a bunch of teams go heavy on drafting d-man, only 6-9 of Soderstrom, Harley, Broberg, York, Robertson, Seider, Heinola, Bjornfot, and Thomson would need to get drafted and Newhook would land in our laps. And there are also players like Kaliyev, Lavioe, Suzuki, McMichael, and Spencer Knight teams could just like better than Newhook. No one really knows but it's possible Newhook falls to us. <please please please>

Kakko had an assist in a 2-1 loss. Was this just a warmup game?

This game was part of the Carlson Games, also known as the Czech Hockey Games. This itself is part of the Euro Hockey Tour which consists of 4 different tournaments. One in Sweden, Russia, Finland and the Czech Republic each.

Not to be confused with the Euro Hockey Challenge, which consists of 12 countries divided into 3 groups of 4.

Both the EHT and EHC are friendly tournaments which are used to test new line combinations at times, but it's still games the players want to win. Kakko finishing the Carlson Games with 2 assists in 2 games as the youngest player by a large margin with 18 years and 81 days old. The 2nd youngest is Filip Chytil who turns 20 in September

Amazing- Yeah, and its pretty sick that by the time Kakko gets to camp in NY, he will basically have played against like what 90% of the best players in the World already.

Just to name a few selected big names:
Malkin
Kucherov
Kuzentsov
AO
Elias Pettersson
OEL
Kane
Matthews
Debrincat
Eichel
Johnny G
Tavares

And then another 100 or so solid to good NHLers.

The national teams for the WCHs are also a very comfortable environment. They are dependent on players wanting to come there without getting a cent for it, the personell around the team is often real characters and everyone tries to make it a good time.

My impression is that it can be a pretty great experience for a kid before going to the NHL. In terms of getting jitters, making the jump from a junior team to a pre-season game against like NJ in the NHL can be pretty big. Of course you get really nervous, feel pressure etc. But if you instead had played a WCHs in between, or between going from a European league to the NHL, I am sure it takes some nerves away from a kid who already have played against the best in the world.

Some food for thought:

Given the sudden influx of prospects that seem to be coming at the forward ranks, perhaps that changes several things from Gorton's point of view. Including a longer term horizon for some prospects. If Podkolzin slides all the way to the Jets pick, perhaps now Gorton does not mind the wait for him to come over to the NHL.

Personally, I think the point is moot as there is no way he lasts that long. No matter how much we move him down on the HF ranks, he has consistently been a high pick by all major pundits.

Brutal

I’d consider it for sure.

We really need to come out of this draft with a sizable RHD though.
Seider will probably be available at the Jets pick. Not sure that I would take him there, though. This is where the Dallas pick being a first rounder would really help. Makes for a good pick there.

Korzcak would be a good get in the second.

I can live big parts of 1-15, although I think he is crazy high on Krebs (that is just pure Canadian bias+confirmation bias of him playing 1st line C for Canada, if Krebs was a Swede or a Fin or a Russian I am not even sure he would go in the 1st round...), but having those 4 finns ahead of Lavoie is a real stretch for me, Rees at 33 is really low, and so forth. I think its just pretty bad to have Pelletier ahead of Soderstrom. Suzuki is so high. I don't mind Harley at 29 at all though.

Definately on the other side of the fence on the Krebs opinion Ola. I think he's top 10 all day long. The rest of his list however...It's a little crazy.
