Soderstrom at 21 is really good value.

I like that mock draft a lot, has some risers and some fallers. A lot more realistic than the people who just list off the main 3-8 guys in whatever order.

I would be disappointed in that pick. I want another forward. I certainly don't want another undersized offensive dman. I don't think soderstrom is better than lundkvist frankly

He might not be big, but Soderstrom is definitely not strictly an offensive defenseman. He’s fantastic defensively. Think Spurgeon as a comparable.

I’d be ecstatic with a Kakko Soderstrom Seider first round. Seems unlikely but not impossible.

Go Dallas!!!

I think hes clearly worse tbh.

The only D men who interest me at all in the 1st are Byram, Broberg and as a later pick, Seider or Korczak.

I think York and Robertson are good players and 1st round worthy, but there are a ton of players who I'd look at before them.

I was surprised and disappointed to see Doro mocked that high. He’s someone I’d love to take at 21 if we stay there

There is a less than 0% chance that Byram falls to 7.
Agreed! I think GM's watching this year are salivating over young dmen changing the game right in front of our eyes and not only that but making an impact in playoff games (not saying Byram is Heiskanen...no one really is right now ha). Besides Hughes/Kakko going 1/2 the only other guarantee is Byram not dropping below 6.

I think Byram is fantastic, and I'd personally take him at 3 if I was Chicago, but I think his floor is 4/5. No way he falls beyond them.

Hope Dallas finds a way its gonna sting not picking until what 47/48??? After 19ish. 19 should see plenty of nice talent there but would be nice to have two bullets from 19-28

Yeah BPA wise for sure but Chicago has some nice young talent on d so see them going Center but of course would not be shocked if they took him at 3.

Yeah, like it wouldn’t be a bad pick, the kid has a really high skill level overall, but with 30 picks in 3 years and some good depth drafting — our depth is certainly filling up at some positions. Fox/TDA/Pionk/Keane/Lundkvist is already no fewer than 5 guys who at worst are really good RD prospects and all has a decade plus infront of them. And since all of them are around 5’11, I would think twice about drafting another RD around 5’11. Someone like Kardan Korzcak? Sure. Seider? Why not, I am not 100% sure exactly where that kid is at right now, but if we love him, sure.

But there are 3 spots at RD while a versatile forward basically gives you depth at 12 forward positions, and we don’t have many strong forward prospects at all outside the NHL right now. We basically only have 1 guy who is on par with Keane and Lundkvist and that is Kravy...

If they think Söderström is bpa at 19-21, then go for him. He’s a really solid two way righty D. If anything having a bunch of skilled righty D in the pipeline gives us premium assets to use down the road, and skilled righty D are exactly that. Would hate to take a guy that low just because he’s bigger and fills a need better. There are two way righty D to grab later in the draft, Drew Helleson being some one who should be there late in the 2nd. Suzuki or Robertson would be solid pick ups with the Winnipeg pick though don’t seem to be Ranger type of picks.

Sorry i dont follow this thread as regularly as others

Is this Swedish D a top 20 talent in the opinion of you guys?
Thanks

NYR w pick 21
Victor Soderstrom

"The Rangers got the forward their rebuild needed in Kakko. Now it's time to nab a defenseman. Soderstrom played in the top Swedish league this season, and his seven points were the most for any U18 player who appeared in the league this year. His elite skating allows him to pivot quickly and transition from offense to defense - crucial in today's NHL. His vision and puck skills are also high end."

Again, I understand your point. But to me, there are two players I stay away from in this draft....Laovie and Kayliev. I do not love complete one trick ponies like Kayliev. I can completely understand if someone falls in love with his shot and wants to draft him in the 12-15 range. If it were up to me, I would not do it. But it is up to me.
Thank you. These conversations become much more interesting, informative, and enjoyable when we speak in specifics rather than generalizations.
This goes for all areas, actually. Not just hockey chit chat.

So if the Canes go to the ECF, Jets pick moves to 20 right? Jackets too then 19?

Yeah basically. Winnipeg finished 10th in pts. That puts them at 22 overall. However all 4 teams making it to the conference final will draft 28-31, i.e. move down in the draft if they didn't win their division or finish top 4 in pts to start with. If a team with fewer pts than Winnipeg gets to a conference final -- they will in other words jump past Winnipeg's pick and push that one down a notch.

STL and Dallas were both behind Winnipeg, so that means that we already know that the Winnipeg pick at worst will be 21st overall.

In addition, each of the following scenarios would push Winnipeg's pick up a notch: Carolina beating the Islanders, Colorado beating SJ or CBJ beating Boston. 19th don't seem impossible at all. A good player will be available at 19, I think there is a very big difference between 19 and late 20's.
