Having a better offensive upside does not mean being a better defenseman.

With all that, neither of them looks to be a potential top pairing guy to me.

Yeah, but if you get enough prospects, eventually one exceeds expectations. Tyutin, Erixon, Del Zotto, Sanguinetti, Valentenko, Kundratek, Falardeau, Baranka, Staal, Sauer, McIlrath. Eventually you hit gold with McDonagh who exceeds all expectations. It takes a lot more than just a single first rounder, even a fairly early one, to get a star player. Draft picks are merely lottery tickets with some having better odds than others, but all of them having worse odds than fans believe on the draft day.

I do not disagree with that. My only point was having better offensive upside does not mean being a better defenseman.

Boldy is of course the other guy. Just top 6 pro NHL forward written all over him. Smart smart player.

If we end up with the 19th pick. Which is very possible. And newhook is still sitting there at 12 or 13. You absolutely have to move up and get him.

I think teams would be crazy to let him fall that far if they have turcotte or zegras high on their boards.

You know who hasn’t impressed me at all is Dylan Cozens. He’s awkward fast straight ahead but not real agile and gets caught standing around a lot. I don’t love his tourney at all right now.

i think you are seeing a dylan cozens who is playing wing and hasn't felt comfortable there yet.

hes seemed a little overwhelmed early but last game on dachs wing he was physical and went to the front with power. hes a load to handle and showed his soft hands a few times.

keep in mind, hes a centerman. the canadian team is loaded with centers. they had the power line of 3 centers last game with newhook along with those 2.

cozens is a man child. hes lightening fast and big. right shot who can finish off the fly or take it to the front. hes hardly awkward and certainly plenty agile. his skating is as good as any on that team.

continuing this idea, kirby dach has been as advertised. captain. #1 center and a driver of that line. hes going to be a solid choice in the top 10. skating wise, i see no issues. his goal was a top corner snipe.

lastly, alex newhook on the wing seems comfortable, hes very good on the wall on that PP1 making smart passes and showing the ability to take a few strides and snap it on net. hes in the middle of everything on that line and the PP1 seems to work thru him.

more importantly, showing exactly ZERO signs of disinterest in back checking and play away from the puck. in fact, hes dogged on puck pursuit and skates as hard as anyone getting back into plays.

kids legit.

we didnt draft mcd.

Dach is definitely a top 10 pick. Has to be.

Early this year I liked Dach better than cozens then I flipped but I’m starting to flip back quite frankly.

At what point does Podkolzin's struggle to outshine his peers start to really raise a concern for more people?

It's not just one isolated viewing, it's multiple leagues, multiple showcases, etc.

At some point, regardless of talent, you have to question why the sum doesn't equal the parts.

I don’t understand why he’s #3. He doesn’t produce and he’s at best case 2 years from being a free agent while making no bones about not being in a big rush to leave. I wouldn’t touch him.

Caufield has to be rising up team's boards at this point. 66 goals is a lot, no matter what league you are playing in. Teams will not want to make a mistake like they did with DeBrincat.

For me the best thing happening in this tourney is that podkolzin has been very quiet. A big tourney from him is all Gordie Clark needs to justify picking him over Kakko. The quieter this kid stays the better for us.
Gordie was never taking him even if he did well. The pick has been Kakko/Hughes from the start. Even Bob confirmed as such.

end round 1, would it really be a "reach" for such an all around solid dman like tobias bjornfot ??

kid just seems to have something. every time i iso watch him, he makes the right reads, the little subtle plays and is always pushing the puck up ice with purpose.

i like that kid.

I meant "reach" as in consensus rankings. Most have him in the later 1st/early 2nd. I personally think the early 20's are a perfect spot to take him. I agree he is very solid all around. Could be a very good depth defenseman for a top 2!!
