Want a center like Backstrom?

Trevor Zegras is the ticket. Has the same eyes in the back of his head style of play as Backstrom.

You know, in light of all this talk of the various centers, and whom everybody prefers, I'd love to hear from the more knowledgeable posters – how do all of you view/describe:

Cozens
Dach
Turcotte
Zegras
Krebs
Newhook
Lavoie

All else being equal, who's your pick? Why?

Thanks for doing this chart, awesome.

Hayes for WPG1 is highway robbery.

Hayes will live to deeply regret not taking a solid NYR extension a year ago.

I don’t think this same opportunity will be there next year, or in the immediate future. I get the sense that certain opportunities are entering their peak window, if they exist at all.
Which is why I believe that IF Gorton has decided that Kreider is not apart of the future but cannot find a way to make it work (i.e get into this year's top-8) that trading him in a deal that nets a top-15 pick in 2020 is just fine. I would be happy with 2 & 22 in 2019 and 5 & 15 in 2020.

Favorite dream:

Columbus & Dallas in conf. finals - end up with picks 19 and 28.

Trade Kreider for 14.

14 and 28 for 9. (Anaheim ends up with three firsts as well)

Take Kakko at 2

Zegras at 9

Move 19 and 58 for 15

Take Söderström at 15

Take Korczak at 37.

Dallas resigns Zucc.

Dallas becomes a bubble team again.

Rangers land top pick in 2020. Also have a Dallas pick in the teens.

2019 results in Kakko, Zegras, Söderström and Korczak.

2020 results in Lafreniere and a high reward defensive prospect.

A boy can dream.
This is about as close as going full Bern as you will ever do.

Watching Krebs on prospectshifts and it turned into a Brayden Tracey video

Yeah so my very initial impression is that Kootenay f***ing sucks badddddd. Their strategy was basically “defer to Krebs”.

Agree with that comparison. They’ll have to give up a lot to trade up for him, but probably would be worth it.

The one thing I think gets overlooked with Zegras is that he’s got a snarl and attitude to him on the ice. He’s not a shy kid and isn’t afraid to have people wanting to go after him.

With time to cook and mature, Zegras’ game has tremendous potential to translate effectively to the NHL ranks.

When I see Zegras, I SEE an NHL player. Sometimes you can’t see that as clearly when observing a kid, even when they’re talented.

Bobby Brink was added to the USA u18 team and hes already got 2 assists against russia. he would be someone available around our winnipeg pick.

Yeah, he has great vision, but you wouldn’t mind if he moved a bit better. Him and Zegras are kind of in the same boat there.

They are good with the puck when they get open ice, you get a big difference there compared to Hughes, Turcotte and Boldy who have much bigger impact 5 on 5 with and without the puck.

I think part of the challenge when comparing Zegras to some of those names is that they sometimes play a different style, or a different role.

Turcotte’s role this year, especially as a wing, was to go hard and fast to the net. He was their to counterbalance the US program’s playmaking centers.

Ditto for Boldy.

Both Hughes and Zegras play a somewhat similar style in the sense that they’re going to weave, or circle, and let the play develop. They’re buying the time and space for guys like Turcotte, or Boldy, or Caufield to do their thing.

It’s also why the offensive numbers put up by the US program’s defenseman are arguably lower than they could be. Your playmaking centers are sometimes dancing in zones where the defenseman might look to pinch.

That, in turn, is part of the intrigue about a kid like York. His numbers were great, but there’s a strong belief that they could actually be better if not for the system the US team plays and the unreal playmaking depth they had this season.

But back to Zegras, if you can find some highlights from when he was on the wing with Hughes, you see playing much more of a straight ahead game and he’s right there ahead of the play with his skating. He’s just in a role where getting from point a to point b is more essential.

I am watching him play on the wing with Hughes as I write. You are not watching the game?

A moment of silence for the fact that Winnipeg's ouster means we will not be getting their 4th round pick in 2022.

Okay, go back to what you were doing.

What if Chytil ends up being our #2 Center, wouldn't you rather target a sniper? Whether Chytil is C or W we still need a sniper/RHS.
