Gorton also has a problems with a roster that more or less is over-full, and many guys that aren’t contributing. Names, Vesey, Strome and many others. Were are they going?
Wait, did I miss something? Namestnikov and Strome are not contributing? Why must they go anywhere?

Julie Robenhymer and Uffe Bodin discussed the prospects playing in the World Championships.

Julie did most of the talking in this video.

They discussed Hughes and Kakko. All of that ground has already been covered.

She said Moritz Seider will be a top 20 pick but he could go closer to the top 10. Some scouts told her Seider could possibly play in the NHL next season. He is comfortable and confident playing against men.

Julie is one of the few people in hockey I follow on social media.

The Mannheim program that Seider comes from has produced the best NHL talent from Germany over the last 20 years. Guys like Goc, Hecht, Seidenberg, etc.

Paul Messier, Mark's older brother, was a star player for Mannheim in the 1980's.

2 (49) D: Ryan Johnson (USA)(6'0"/161lbs., Shot: Left, Sioux Falls/USHL) *20/21 U. of Minnesota Commit
2 (58) C: Oleg Zaitsev (RUS)(6'1"/185lbs., Shot: Left, Red Deer/WHL)
3 (68) C: Ilya Nikolayev (RUS)(6'0"/190lbs., Shot: Left, Yaroslavl/MHL)

6 (161) F/D: Nick Bochen (CAN)(5'9"/154lbs., Shot: Right, Prince George/BCHL) *20/21 U. of Michigan Commit
7 (205) RW: Jeremi Gerber (SUI)(6'1"/192lbs., Shot: Left, Bern/NLA)

Kakko is obvious. Seider is a good pick at No. 20. He's got the tools to be a mobile defensive defender with occasional offense. Already has good edgework and speed and has played in a men's league. Johnson is also a speedy defensive defender, but I have questions about offensive upside. Not sure if I'd select him in the mid-2nd round. Zaitsev has a very good shot and puck protection. Can get into the open ice to make way for a lane. Defense could use toning. Nikolayev is a very good defensive forward prospect. Does the little things right and is physical. Offense is key for him to be a steal in the 3rd round. Nodler is a shifty playmaker that I think would be a very good in a "desperate for offense" Michigan State. Could also develop a good two-way game, but could need all 4 years, though. Phillips is a speedy, but incredibly undersized playmaker. I honestly don't see him making an adjustment to pro hockey unless he bulks up. Don't know much on Bochen or Gerber. Thoughts?

I'd be pretty shocked if Seider is still there at 20.

I'd be shocked if we don't pick even a single goalie with all our late round picks.

I haven't seen most of these guys at all, but obviously Seider at 20 makes it a very good draft from my perspective.

Based on the rankings, Zaitsev seems like a reach pick at 58.

Assuming a top 9 of Hughes, Kakko, Byram, Turcotte, Dach, Cozens, Krebs, Podkolzin, and Zegras, one of these guys will be available for us to take at #20:
Boldy
Caufield
Newhook
Seider
York
Kaliyev
Lavoie
Harley
Tomasino
Soderstorm
Broberg

We're getting a good player. You know, unless they go full McIlrath on the pick.

I'd be cool with any of them other than Harley

Would be ecstatic with Boldy, very happy with Newhook and content with a swing for the fences with Caufield (despite my concerns about his size). Sieder, I do not love at 20, but am coming around when compared to the rest. As I have documented before, Kayliev & Lavoie are a hard, hard pass for me.

Kayliev and Lavoie also a hard pass for me.

Barring a surprise drop, I am leaning more towards trading #20 for best young player (ideally C) available.

Kaliyev is super divisive. Some guys think he should go top 10 based off his stats that compare favorably to stars that have come out of the league. Others don't want to touch him in the first round. Did hear a rumor that Kaliyev really wants to play for the Rangers though.

What are the chances any of those 3 are available at 20? Or are you thinking we try to move up?

I get the concerns, but at the end of the day 50 goals is 50 goals.

Underrated passer too. He's a home run swing, but one I'd be more than okay with taking at #20.

One thing I find interesting about Kaliyev is that there are some data points that indicate his weaknesses aren't as weak as people think. For example, he was at the top of some of the skating drills at the top prospects game and statistically he looked good in terms of taking the puck away too.

The Devils beat writer Chris Ryan put together a mock draft.

1-Hughes
2-Kakko

20) New York Rangers (via Jets) - Moritz Seider, D (Adler Mannheim, DEL)
2018-19 stats: 29 GP, 2 G, 4 A, 6 P
After getting Kakko with the second pick of the draft, the Rangers turn to the blue line here in Seider, a German defenseman. The Rangers picks two defensemen in last year’s first round, and they’ll add one more talented player to that prospect pool.

NHL mock draft 2019: Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko No. 1 to Devils? Who do Rangers, Blackhawks, Avalanche, Kings take? Full 31-pick 1st round

The Rangers would have two big trees on D with Miller & Seider.

Do interviews start today or tomorrow?

Both.

With that said, Cole Caufield has 27 interviews set up for the week.

Ethan Phillips, who NHL.com named as their most underrated prospect in the class, has 17 interviews coming up. Could be the first big riser in the draft. I have him in the late 3rd, ATM. Draftsite has NYR taking him in the 5th round.
