I'm actually fascinated to see this Nichushkin return for Colorado because I think he's probably the most Rakell-adjacent forward that's been traded in a while. Granted their play styles aren't that similar, but they're both similarly talented 2nd line wingers coming off a ~50 point season in their early 30s signed for term. Granted Nuke is 2 years younger, but he's also signed for 2 more years and costs $1 million a year more.



And there we have it and I think this is a pretty accurate estimation of what Rakell's value would be.

I think Rust is viewed as better but yeah this is more or less what Rakell is bringing back. High 2nd and a 3rd level return.

Seems like a decent bit to give up for Nuke at his current state. But I really do sincerely wish him the best. Though the Jackets can still get f***ed, of course.

If Broz can stay fit and in form he probably gets his games next season. He'd have probably got them already if he hadn't got mono in his first pro season and then miss 23 games the next. So wait for the call up - and given the Pens gave 20 forwards 10 or more games last season, there probably is one coming - and go from there.

Looking at the UFA list, I wonder if Tolvanen is guy Dubas looks to as another Mantha (not in style but rather, sign cheap and hope for good things)?

Also FWIW, the unverified rumor going around Twitter with Nikishin is that he's being shopped because he's asking for way more money than Carolina wants to pay him and isn't interested in giving Carolina a discount.

Hm, I wonder if there was a LD needy team with a ton of cap space to pay Nikishin and a desire to acquire mid-20s players with upside? I can't think of a good fit for that.

That said, being critical of Dubas for the obsession with AHL-caliber players is very warranted. It's followed him since Toronto. We'll see where this one goes. Gotta hope for the best of course.

Fair, as of now they'd have $40mil in space. Doable. Wouldn't shock me to see him take the exact deal MacKinnon got. 7x12.5 (or 12.6mil). Might be tough to ask for more than what NateDawg is getting.

That $40mil doesn't count Lehkonen or Roy if they want to keep them and only has 3 dmen but still, all doable still.

To be fair, lot's of guys off the books in that $40mil, including Makar. But it goes away pretty fast. Smart of them to grab a couple of these younger RFAs like L'Heureux and Svechkov.

Makar - 12.6mil so that takes it to 27.4. Roy - $5mil, Lehkonen - $7.5mil. That's $15mil to sign 3 defensemen and BUG. Still tight though I imagine someone from the ranks goes to make room just like Nuke just did.
