Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
My worry is that Rakell and Novak are guys teams look at once FA is done and they missed on their targets. Which means you can use any draft capital this year to move up. IF they want to pull triggers, today (and tomorrow before 5pm) is the time.
It would not be terrible to start positioning yourself better for the '27 draft. I mean, I want Viggo but if that cannot happen then position yourself for Alexis Joseph and co.

I think Penguins fans overrate the hell out of Broz. He's turning 24 and he has 1 game of NHL experience.
I've felt that way for years. Broz might make it as a bottom of the lineup guy but that's about it. Other than his last year of college he's been pretty pedestrian since drafted, but he's lived off that reputation wise.

I have a feeling people are expecting Dubas to have way bigger of a summer than he's going to actually have. The only odd thing with this year is the market is screwed, so he may not be able to pull off those Wotherspoon/Mantha/Brazeau contracts this year, but I'd expect most of his trades to be smaller moves like the Lapierre trade. I hope he goes all-in for someone like Nikishin, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I'm not expecting anything from Dubas.

And even his college production was just fine, he was the 4th leading scorer on his team in his junior year when he had 40 points in 43 games.

I think people saw the Penguins hit on Blueger, who was also a 2nd rounder center with similar college production, and concluded "Broz will definitely be the next Blueger". But then they ignore that Blueger panned out because he could cut it as a defensive 4C, which isn't Broz's game.

Draft capital is valuable in the future, too. It doesn't have to be used this weekend.

I don’t think Dubas is going to force anything. I thought he would do something larger but maybe all the deals dried up and the prices were too expensive.

Then he'll be proven to be a failure. There is not point keeping Raks and or Rust, EK or any other vet that you can gain assets with.

I mean, I don't have any faith in our system developing any players at this point.

I also don't think any insider has any idea what he's doing, because all of his moves seem pretty quiet and out of left field. Even with the Chinakhov rumors, I don't think the Penguins were ever officially linked to him by insiders.

Just look at Lapierre. It materialized in minutes today.

This is also another smaller factor in why I've grown pretty skeptical that Dubas ends up trading for Nurse. If the Penguins were actually interested in Nurse, we wouldn't be hearing nearly as much noise from insiders about them as we are. It supports all of these leaks are coming out of Edmonton because Dubas runs a tight ship.

I’m heartbroken for you.

Yeah. There have been times when people have speculated about a fit. The Jarry trade with Edmonton and the Pettersson trade with Vancouver come to mind. But there were never any hard rumors about returns or indications of real interest until there was suddenly a finished deal.

I don’t want to think too far ahead, but with the Lapierre acquisition, could there be any chance in seeing Kindel as the 2C, and Novak being moved out this offseason in a package? Whether it’s moving up in the draft, a higher impact forward or defensive help?

It would be my stronger preference to send Novak out as a center and get a solid pick or RW back. Then possibly have Malkin return to 2C.

Kindel to 2C isn't out of the question but I imagine the majority of us would want him at 3C just a bit longer before being burdened with 2nd line duties.

To be honest if Kindel can't be 2C, get rid of him while you can. The last thing this team needs to worry about the next 5+ years is bottom 6 C depth.
