Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Is this a credible source? Why Big Mike too? And what about cap space? Doesn’t feel real but thanks for posting.

That's one of several posts about Robertson that my longtime friend and person who is much more in touch with the rumor mill and keeps up on all the scuttlebutt like it's his full time job sent me. He said take it with a grain of salt but this isn't the only person talking about Robertson to the Devils. If he think enough of it to share it with me (he almost never does) I take it as worth sharing here.

From your lips to Jim Nill's ears. If Mercer and a 1st is the only things of real value we lose, yes please

singsy is more than a random twitter aggregator but less than a legit source. he broke the meier compensation and i’m fairly certain he broke the toffoli trade (outgoing). he’s been on chiclets a few times, mostly game-notes (their spinoff).
The fact that he says Big Mike is out there for trade means he is dead to me.

I saw a lot of "buzz" around Robertson to the devils but I'll believe it when it happens.

We might be in the IFTTT zone of the week after all those trades. I think the next few days it’s about what happens at the draft possibly all starting with the fourth pick and then domino’s fall from there.

Could pick number 12 and pick number 35 get you to move up a couple spots if a player they like is available? Just me spitballing in here.

I want the team to be a winner again as much as everyone else here does but I wanna come out of the off-season feeling good about this season coming up and as well as the next couple of seasons at least.

I get the idea of trading for players who can help right now and using all the draft capital but with the lack of cap space and the fact that this team has not been a winner at all, we still need to have something in the cupboard for lineup replenishment with ELCs. This team hasn’t been a consistent winner so for me putting all your chips in the middle while sacrificing the near future. Shero did didn’t meet a second round pick he couldn’t trade and TF (stands for “that mother-efer” in my head) was a dummy at drafting, so like a few have mentioned already out cupboard is completely bare and now more so with Nemec gone.

If they’re thinking of trading Mercer, I think at this point it’s more about possibly a one-to-one hockey trade for a similar player change of scenery, RFA or something. I think that maxes mice is value better than as a throw in in a bigger trade or you still have to replace him anyway.

Let’s get back to homeostasis and and change the culture of the team while making progress towards winning.

there are a bunch of pick value charts out there...a quick look seems like 12+35 could move a team into the 8 to 10 range

Goalie prospects are whatever tbh. Ill include him in a deal - I just dont see why DAL would want him
I’d rather include an extra first round pick (which is bound to be a late one) than Big Mike considering how barren we are at the goalie position. Not sure why Dallas would want him in a deal when they have Oettinger. Mercer and Casey both make sense. Ultimately though, it’s a trade I would absolutely still make.

Thanks. Basically the range I was thinking. Unfortunately, Bjork is getting a lot of attention so not sure he’d drop that much now, but never put it past GMs to still look at size and pass.

I'd love to get Larkin. It would be a much bigger fix to our depth and even 5v5 production than Quinn. Running Jack-Nico-Larkin down the middle would mean we have 3 scoring lines when all healthy. I'm tired of running scrubs at 3C/4C because have nothing outside our top 6.
Hard to know if Larkin would even be open to a move to NJ. He's apparently friendly with the Hughes clan but he may want a southern no tax locale.

Im gonna strongly disagree that Larkin does more then Quinn 5 on 5. Quinn completely destroys everyone when hes on the ice

Yeah Larkin would be a great add. They could run it like you said or keep him in the top 6 and run
Jack Larkin Bratt.
Gritsyuk Nico timo.

If Larkin was open to NJ I'd rather have him at his price than Robertson at the $15 mil he's going to demand.
Yeah absolutely. What if we traded for Robertson and then Dallas flips those assets to acquire Larkin. Would you be upset? If we traded for Robertson I would hope we could resign him for 12.5 max. These new numbers are too high for me. I think he’s really good but not 15 aav good which is probably why Dallas would be willing to trade him even though they are contenders

Are we really penciling in Grits on the top 6?? Really?

This is why we get in the situations we get in:
-Holtz
-Mercer
-Rango

13 Goals in 66 games. That's all we saw.

Love the kid but let's see what he can do on the 3rd line for a season OR move him for a guy we can confidently assume will hit 40 goals AND play every game
