Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Here’s a fun thought experiment. If just Bratt gets injured for 30 games but Jack remains in the lineup at 100% doing this thing, do we think the devils turn into a lottery team?

If just Timo misses 30 games and Jack stays in the lineup at 100% do we think the devils turn into a lottery team?

The last time Nico missed a large chunk of games, Jack was still healthy and the team treaded water just fine while he was out.

this is true jack is the true core piece on this team calling the others core players is such a disservice imo

By now, Sunny through Jack has an idea of what is or isnt possible.

If we decide to not use the picks for a forward, Im fine with going some UFA routes
If Jack is feeding Sunny info on Quinn and it’s favorable for the Devils, Sunny is definitely holding on to his bullets until the last possible moment. If we make our pick tomorrow or Sunny makes a trade for a top six winger that means the Quinn boat has sailed.

I wouldnt take it that far cause at the end of the day Sunny's job is to improve the team right now. Its a tough thing to balance for sure but im sure he has some idea of whats possible

thank you for not drinking the kool-aid pineapple slices! people wanting to run it back with the same group that haven't had it all together since 4 years ago is comical.
Who wants to run it back? Saying they have a problem and it's not going to be fixed quickly given how far Fitz backed them into a corner is not wanting to run it back.

Curious if you guys would do this? I think this cost + 14m in salary is prob too much for me to stomach

who really cares about first round picks unless you are a rebuilding team. so basically this is grits for robertson? thats even a debate?

we legit just moved on from the 2nd pick from what 4 years ago? and people on here gasp at trading two first round picks lets assume the ones we just got that wont be in the top 10 and wont be for another year+

It's the opportunity cost. Who else could you have traded the 1st rounders for that can make an impact. Also the actual salary cost is a big concern and impacts roster flexibility.

Yea the same debate about Nico vs Quinn. We know how that turned out. We have a whole thread dedicated to a guy not on the team. There are real tears in that thread. Embarrassing.

Is this a credible source? Why Big Mike too? And what about cap space? Doesn’t feel real but thanks for posting.

We might be in the IFTTT zone of the week after all those trades. I think the next few days it’s about what happens at the draft possibly all starting with the fourth pick and then domino’s fall from there.

Could pick number 12 and pick number 35 get you to move up a couple spots if a player they like is available? Just me spitballing in here.

I want the team to be a winner again as much as everyone else here does but I wanna come out of the off-season feeling good about this season coming up and as well as the next couple of seasons at least.

I get the idea of trading for players who can help right now and using all the draft capital but with the lack of cap space and the fact that this team has not been a winner at all, we still need to have something in the cupboard for lineup replenishment with ELCs. This team hasn’t been a consistent winner so for me putting all your chips in the middle while sacrificing the near future. Shero did didn’t meet a second round pick he couldn’t trade and TF (stands for “that mother-efer” in my head) was a dummy at drafting, so like a few have mentioned already out cupboard is completely bare and now more so with Nemec gone.

If they’re thinking of trading Mercer, I think at this point it’s more about possibly a one-to-one hockey trade for a similar player change of scenery, RFA or something. I think that maxes mice is value better than as a throw in in a bigger trade or you still have to replace him anyway.

Let’s get back to homeostasis and and change the culture of the team while making progress towards winning.

Cause its a huge use of assets. I think Grits can be more important that Robo to a contending team at his cap hit

Id rather have Grits at 5.5 million scoring 20-25 goals and use the other assets to draft and or make separate trades

i think it might be due to the rumoured 14M price for him rather than losing picks.

• Dougie Hamilton is someone I'm taking off the list because the Devils moved Simon Nemec and Hamilton may be Sunny Mehta's strongest analytical defenceman left. With Nemec out, there is no longer a pressing need to move Hamilton.

Markstrom is still on the trade board

cool another 5+ million player on this team scoring 20-25 goals

contract is going to be big for whoever they want to target and bring in. now is 45g 95pt player worth 14 million? that you can debate

personally i really doubt the stars who are contending are looking for pure futures anyway

btw this player has a career of 66 games played but yeah lets put him down for 5+ and 25g no risk involved there
Grits had some of the best underlyings analytics on the team. Comfortable giving him 5-6 million per year on a long term deal yes

Elite production from him, only thing misses is some more Top 6 ice time. Im very comfortable giving him the bag
