Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Cool, welcome to the Penguins.

A third an a fifth combined have like a .05% chance of seeing NHL ice. I can't put myself in a spot to care. That said, being critical of Dubas for the obsession with AHL-caliber players is very warranted. It's followed him since Toronto. We'll see where this one goes. Gotta hope for the best of course.

I'd be interested to see what he does with more ice time.

Rakell to someone for late 1st/2nd, then a 2nd to CBJ for KJ.

Lapierre has a higher potential pedigree. Realistically they aren't as attached to some of the WBS guys as we as fans are and competition is usually good and in that vein, it makes it easier to include these guys in bigger trades should they present themselves.

This trade bothers me more than it should. Lapierre doesn't really seem to have any demonstrative traits. Guys can have holes and be young, but at least when the Penguins traded for them last year, they had a unique feature.

Chinakov has good wheels and a wicked shot.
Soderblom has a long wingspan that I think helps him be able to protect the puck well. He also has underrated hands.

Lapierre is just a 76 overall fourth liner with no real standout features. Danton Heinen types.

Not that Kypreos has any credibility

No, but it at least makes sense. Rakell is the guy you can comfortably move for a solid return to continue building your asset collection. Novak is the NHL player you include in a deal along with picks and/or prospects for an upgrade at 2C or on defense.

I think it's beyond obvious that at LEAST 1 forward is going out, and maybe two. Now, is it a veteran like Rakell or Rust, a younger player like McGroarty or a late-20s forward like Novak or Brazeau.

You don't acquire Lapierre to play him on the fourth line. Washington tried that already, does not work. He is a top-9 forward who can play on the power play. Since he can play both center and wing, that gives management a lot of options.

I think he plays a style that suits us very well.

It probably not a great sign for Broz at least.

I think Penguins fans overrate the hell out of Broz. He's turning 24 and he has 1 game of NHL experience.

There's a reason Hockey Stat's prospect cards have Broz at a 5% chance of becoming a full-time NHLer:

Or here's another thought, they brought in Lapierre as a cheap scratch-off ticket and aren't going to start tearing down and selling much better players just to gift him a spot in the top-9?

Did they sell anyone at the deadline when they acquired Soderblom to give Soderblom a spot?

Gentleman's bet that Lapierre does NOT begin 2026-27 as the 13th or 14th forward?

My worry is that Rakell and Novak are guys teams look at once FA is done and they missed on their targets. Which means you can use any draft capital this year to move up. IF they want to pull triggers, today (and tomorrow before 5pm) is the time.

You got the cause/effect backwards.

There not gonna sell off better players to give Hendrix a spot.

They brought in Hendrix as backfill because theyre expecting to move a guy. And if they dont end up moving a guy, oh well, its depth.

Kent Johnson to the pens for anything less than a massive overpay is risking jobs in the CBJ front office, after the Chinakhov success. We skinned that sheep, we didn't shear it. No trades with CBJ for a while.

I have a feeling people are expecting Dubas to have way bigger of a summer than he's going to actually have. The only odd thing with this year is the market is screwed, so he may not be able to pull off those Wotherspoon/Mantha/Brazeau contracts this year, but I'd expect most of his trades to be smaller moves like the Lapierre trade. I hope he goes all-in for someone like Nikishin, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I rather we make small bets like this instead of spending 3 1sts or whatever on robertson. We're not in that phase of our rebuild we should go big for THE piece to take us all the way.

Some more small bets on younger players and move out som vets and im happy
