Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

I think "asking for way more money than Carolina is willing to pay" is probably something like "asking for a long-term deal at $8 million a year".
I agree but I don't think that price tag scares anyone that might be interested in him. I was merely citing a price tag that would scare literally everyone off.

Depending on the asking price, I'd probably do an 8x8. Hell, I might even go up to 9-9.5mil, just because of our lack of cap.

Idk I think the very simple question to ask is this: if there is this "immense interest" in Nurse like some of these Canadian-based insiders are reporting (mainly Johnston and Pagnotta), why hasn't Nurse been moved yet and why are other Canadian based insiders (mainly Stauffer) reporting that the Oilers may keep Nurse if they don't get what they want? They obviously want to move him out.

I think the logical conclusion here is what Seravalli said: the teams Nurse gave to Edmonton are moderately interested in Nurse, but on much more of a backup choice or a low-cost option, not as a primary option they'd be aggressive about acquiring. There isn't "no interest" and Edmonton won't have to add a massive amount to move him, but the interest is definitely on the lower side and teams have other avenues they'd rather pursue first.

I think Philly will replace Hathaway with a Luke Glendening re-signing. But good on them to get something for Hathaway. Hopefully the Panthers use him as the Greer replacement on the fourth line. That helps all of us.

Some speculation that the Washington moves may have them looking to dump Lapierre. Would likely be cheap center and may fit the young reclamation project target. Not sure how interested I'd be but it's another name to think about?

The Nurse comments from Edmonton is all GM speak. Its a GM's job to maximize return. I think its pretty obvious that Nurse and the Oilers are done, now its a game of poker.

How can we minimize damage from this albatross of a contract, save face and maximize return from the terrible position we are in.

They aren't just going to come out and say, hes going to be difficult to move, only a few teams want him and we might have to bite the bullet.

They are saying there is interest, there will be a hockey trade.

Create smoke and try to maximize return.

My fear there is that I would major reservations about his programming. I could easily see a scenario where he takes Crosby out at the knees while he isn't looking at practice as a dirtbag Capital reflex.

Both reports kinda align with the idea that the Oilers aren't getting offered much or aren't getting much interest in Nurse, no? The Oilers report is "we're not getting offered enough, so we might just keep him if you don't pay what we wants". The Seravalli and Kruz reports are kinda "teams aren't that interested in Nurse and mostly view him as a fallback option".

I feel like the "swaying the media" angle here supports that there isn't much interest in Nurse and the Oilers are trying to put pressure on other teams to up their interest/offer for him.

I think it all aligns with the idea the Oilers aren't getting offered much.

Not getting much interest might be a different kettle of fish. F'ex, I can easily imagine the Flyers being quite interested in a Couturier for Nurse deal but shutting down if it's much more than that.

Something like the Flyers going "please we haven't even talked about getting the dude" is the lady doth protest too much. If he's just your backburner, who even cares guy, why feel the need to even say?

Also yeah Lapierre is terrible haha

But whatever worth a gamble for a 3rd or something I guess. He could skate for Wilkes Barre if nothing else... unless they get moved to f***ing Saratoga or some shit.

I have no issue with him as a guy to bring in but this is a guy that we can overpay for so until I hear the return...I'm scared. NOT worth 22 or 39, can tell you that.

There is no chance a guy coming off a 16 point season is going for that high of a pick.

It's like 2 future 3rds at most. Maybe a future 2nd.
