Taylor has gone with 11 - 7 for several games and said that its keeps the Dmen
Fresh during the games.

I guess there is a rather large group of dmen there too when you consider the players on ahl contracts as well. As long as the core group of players are getting ice time i dont have any real quarrels.

The Admirals (25-10-1-0) host the 4th place Rockford IceHogs (16-16-3-1) in a divisional battle. If the Ads win with Askarov in goal (yet again) that would be NINE wins in a row. Askarov has started at least 3 games in a row before this one, plus the 2 games in Henderson.

Stastney and Wilsby on D. L'Heureux with Egor centered by Jankowski. Askarov in goal. We have Linesperson Kristen Welsh (#10) working the game.

Kemell is on the ice!!! Parsnip centers him and Foudy.

Egor hit the post. Jankowski (14) stick handles past 3 or 4 IceHogs and shoots it past Stauber. Egor (16) with the assist. Rockford scores about 30 seconds later to make it 1-1 with 12:30 remaining. SOG were 10-6 Rockford. The have 1:48 of PP to start period 2.

On a personal note, I ran onto former Admiral and current Tampa Bay scout, Tony Hrkac. He recently saved a man from choking to death. Add that to Hobey Baker Award winner, 1999 Stanley Cup winner and 2004 Calder Cup winner with the Ads.

Kemell looks a little rusty, but he has been out for 2 weeks. Ads had 2 shots on the PP. Egor went round and round and Kemell (10) shot the puck in after the next face off. Not too rusty! Assists to Parsnip (1) and Foudy (4), who seems to be everywhere. Ads keep missing half empty nets or it would he 4-1 instead of 2-1. SOG 14-4 Ads.

The PP worked like a charm! Stastney to L'Heureux to Egor (18). Ads get a bogus Boarding penalty. L'Heureux scores the Ads 10th SHG of the season to make it 4-1. That was unassisted as L'Heureux skated 120 feet with the puck and scored. IceHogs just punched 3 Ads in the head and no calls!

Egor with a highlight reel goal to make it 5-1. Egor Afanasyev (19) with an assist to Del Gaizo (15). Askarov fans on a puck and Rockford scores seconds later. Asky should have stayed in the crease and defended the net. Lots of checking going on with 8 minutes remaining. Ads called for Tripping by Tatu Kunto (#86) after numerous Rockford penalties have gone uncalled in period 3. The fans are getting angry.

In the last few minutes of the game, Brandon Baddock, the IceHogs leading penalty leader and a character from a Dickens novel, tried to start two fights. The refs never gave him a penalty. With 2 minutes or so remaining, he would not leave the ice. When the horn sounded, Baddock kept cross checking Gravel in the back until Gravel turned around and appeared to start choking him along the boards. All the drama could have been avoided with 2 minutes for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. That is what a good ref would have done.

The Ads ended the game with a total of 34 SOG in front of 7800 fans.

It is on to Chicago tomorrow night.

BTW, Kirsten Welch (#10) did a perfect job. She gets a 10. Brandon Grillo(#79) gets a 9.

Ref Tatu Kunto, (#86), also from Dickens, gets a 3 and Adam Tobias (#16) gets a 4.

The Ads are playing at 5th place Chicago. Milwaukee has won 9 in a row. Chicago has won 5 in a row. Something has to give!

Troy Grosenick is in goal. Chicago is wearing an Atlanta Thrashers-like medium blue jersey. Milwaukee is wearing their whites. Milwaukee is 3-0 at Chicago, so far, 5-1 overall.

The Wolves have  five former Admirals players, Donovan, Grimaldi, Conacher, Schneider and Ratcliffe. Two of them are on the Chicago PP unit. I Chicago has become the AHL old folks home.

Chicago dominated the play until 8:18 into the game, when the Ads scored on their first shot. Wilsby scored from the point. It was unassisted, but Egor screened the goalie.
Parsnip hit the left post and the puck died in the crease after running down 2/3 of the goal line. There is a TO so the Wolves players can change their hockey shorts! Parssinen is too strong for the aged Wolves players to handle.

At 13:37, Liam Foudy (3) scored when his pass was blocked back to him. The assist went to Del Gaizo. The Wolves goalie has a 50% save average over 14 minutes.

The Wolves fans got excited after they won a face off. That is just SAD. The Wolves have not had a SOG in at least 9 minutes, after getting the first 3 SOG in the game. With 2:38 remaining, the SOG are 4-3 Ads. Milwaukee hit the post (again), that was not counted as a SOG. It is 5-on-5, but the Ads look like they are on the PP. Chicago keeps flashing 30 on the scoreboard, because this is their 30th season, not because their team is all over 30 years of age and playing like it.

The score is 2-0 Admirals. Aaron Sims is talking to team Captain Kevin Gravel about his 2 year, 2 way contract extension through the 2025-26 season and about the team's recent road trip to Las Vegas. Gravel said that the team enjoyed playing a different team in a different city. I think part of that is winning both games by a combined score of 9-0.

In period 2, the Ads won the face off and iced the puck. The SOG are now 4-4. More icing by the Ads and they finally get a line change. Del Gaizo just stapled somebody. Chicago is having problems getting out of their own end. After 2 minutes, the SOG are 6-5 Ads, so the Wolves save percentage has increased to 66%. WOOHOO.

Wolves with a 2-on-1 and a shot from 5 feet. Troy Grosenick with a left pad save!

Kemell was punched in the head and another Admiral was wrestling after the play. It was that goon Parssinen and Fitzgerald from Chicago for Roughing.

Fedor Svechkov (12) scores off the skate of Matt Donovan with an assist to Stastney. It is 3-0 with the Ads having 7 SOG to 3 for the hapless Wolves in this period. Svechkov is holding his knee. Jake Livingstone (1) shoots high past the right arm for his first goal. The assists went to Egor and Stastney. There are 9 minutes and 36 seconds remaining in the second period. The Wolves are going to burn these jerseys after the game. It 4-0 Admirals. Troy with a pair of good saves as Chicago is disparate to score. Grimaldi, Schneider and Conacher are out for a face off, for Chicago.

Grimaldi with a Penalty Shot and he was stoned by Grosenick with 4:22 remaining. Franco swung his stick at Svechkov, no call. Fedor does not take any garbage from anybody! I will be watching Svechkov. He is taking a face off. Ads Gravel gets a penalty. No, it is Svechkov for Holding? SOG 19-11 Ads. The score is 4 to nil Milwaukee.

The Ads killed off the penalty and L'Heureux just headed for the dressing room. Chicago keeps trying post jams and Troy stops them like he is Stonewall Jackson. There is 11:30 remaining in the third period and L'Heureux has not returned. The Ads were called for icing and the puck did not cross the goal line. Parsnip passed to Jankowski, who did the triple deke for a goal. It is 5-0. I can not believe all of the single assist goals.

The Ads get a PP with 9:34 remaining. The Ads are playing two Dmen. The Ads are 2 of 15 on the PP versus Chicago this season. Foudy sure is having a good game. So is Livingstone. Six minutes remaining.

L'Heureux returned. I think he got a new skate. Livingstone for Holding. Assists added to Wilsby and two other Admirals. Ads lead SOG 10-2 in this period, with 3 minutes remaining. The total SOG were 33-18 Ads.

That was Troy's 10th win in a row, tying a team record set by Frank Caprice in 1988 and tied by Brian Finlay. It was the Admirals 10th win in a row in 2024. The team record is 11.

The #1 Star of the Game was Wilsby.

Chicago looked like a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.

This caught my eye:

I've never considered Svechkov to be an explosive skater but rather a powerful one with a bit of an awkward, choppy stride.

But watch this play, the way he separates himself from the defenseman from himself with just a couple of quick, strong strides while protecting the puck. The goal is a fluky one, but I'm really seeing good development in terms of his skating, which has prevented him from creating more offense before and has limited his ceiling to a middle-six center.

I'm telling you, a year more in the AHL and we might be cooking with this guy.

Less about him personally and more about the team in general, that one of the big things I have noticed our guys seem to lose the longer they are away from Taylor, when you have no other play then put it on net. It feels like when the kids first come up they all do that, its very one minded in getting anything on net. The longer they are here the more they seem to not want to shoot.

You got Askarov who's a 5 goalie in the AHL and Grosnick who is top 10. That is a disgusting combo
I mean, partly it's that our AHL team is great, and we have incredible defensive depth on Milwaukee, of course. Askarov is doing fantastic and raising his stock towards being on the big team next season. I'm not sure Grosenick was viewed as anything but a retiree who was hired more for sentimental local reasons than ability, but he's also putting up good numbers despite that.... I wouldn't call them "disgusting" per se... but at least representative of the overall team strengths? :dunno:

The Ads are hosting the San Diego Gulls for a rare 6:30 game. The Gulls received a penalty in the first minute. The Ads had 4 SOG, but none were close to going into the net. SD is affiliated with the Ducks. They have the UGLY uniforms to prove it. Black jerseys and pants with some orange panels and medium blue trim. The names and numbers are white.

L'Heureux was sat on along the end boards for a while. No call by Peter "tarnation" Tarnaris (#17). At least Jarrod "the big Ragu" Ragusin (#2) called the first penalty on the Gulls. SD guilty of Interference in the SW corner. No call.

San Diego has the Big Bad Wolff. He sat on L'Heureux and a few other things in 12 minutes. SD called for Cross Checking by Tarnaris. They actually argued the call. I see why they are in 9th place.

Jankowski for Interference. I guess he isn't allowed to skate where he pleases on the ice? Nick Wolff nearly janked Egor's jersey off and did not get called. Foudy (4) scored the Ads eleventh SHG this season with about 4 minutes remaining. At the horn, a Gull was holding an Ads stick and would NOT let go. The Gulls are really good at pushing people in the back and Jankowski wants a piece of somebody! No calls. SOG were 8-6 Ads. I expect some fireworks in period 2.

Instead of playing the puck in the NE corner, Kemell checked the SD Dman. The puck was about about 6 feet away. SD scored after Gross was punched in the mouth. I could see him bleeding from my seat. He spit out some blood while passing a ref. Foudy (5) went a long way, curled to the slot and scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-1 Ads about 5 minutes into period 2. Good thing that SD is not good at putting the puck on frame, or it might be tied. It has been more physical this period. Jankowski and Gravel have been checking people!

SD scored on a wrap around off of the toe of Wilsby's stick in the crease. Troy overplayed to the left post. It is tied at 2 with 7 minutes to play. SD scored 5-hole on a 3-on-2 when Jankowski was slow getting back with 5.5 minutes remaining. His guy was the trailer who shot the puck. I kind of feel bad for Troy on the two hard luck goals.

This is Cal O'Reilly 300th game as an AHL Admiral. Mark Van Guilder and AC Scott Ford have also reached 300 games with the Admirals.

Marc Del Gaizo (6) scored from the hash mark 2 minutes into period 3 to tie the game at 3. Svechkov (16) and Weatherby (8) with the assists. It was a low shot on the glove side.

Gravel just plastered a Gull. That was the hardest check from Gravel that I have ever seen. My daughter says that "He really doesn't like this team". It must be true. Probably because of the funny business behind the play and after the whistle.

Regenda punched Jankowski behind the Gulls net and after the whistle. His helmet flew off when Janko hit him back in the 5-on-3 scrum. One Gull was holding L'Heureux while another one punched him in the face with a glove a few times. No calls!

Egor just hammered a Gull in the SE corner. Regenda just got a minor for something else that he did on the ice. Suchanek was down on the ice and out of the crease and the Ads could not score. With 9:52 remaining in a 3-3 game with 22 SOG apiece, the face off is in the Neutral Zone.

Schaefer just tossed a Gull stick that was stuck in his jersey after a whistle. Schaefer was just run into the end boards without touching the puck. Hmmm? Wolff is trying to fight and L'Heureux's helmet was displaced. Just 45 seconds left. Hooking by the Gulls and Regenda just grabbed Foudy after the whistle. L'Heureux was talking to 2 Gulls after the whistle. If there were 4 periods, we would have a line brawl.

Troy switched ends and is in front of me. Stastney with Egor and Janko. Gulls hid8ng behind their net and the fans are booing. They lose the puck and Foudy scores for the hatter 1:16 into OT.

A GWG OT Hat Trick goal. That is really unusual. Foudy (6) with assists to Parssinen (4) and Del Gaizo (17).

That makes 11 wins in a row and an undefeated January for the Admirals. Troy set a franchise record with his 11th consecutive winning start. He had 23 saves.

The Gulls had won 3 in a row coming in.

Foudy was the #1 Star with 3 goals.
Parsnip was the #3 Star with 2 assists.

The Moose come to town on Friday at 7 pm.

Milwaukee is 12 points in front of Texas.

Milwaukee trying to get an 11 game win streak... such polar opposites of what we got goin on in Nashville right now. Maybe we should leave Afanaseyev and Stastney there til the trade deadline and the "reaping" of assets

They might be playing Hershey for the Calder Cup in June. The TV 58 news (CBS) mentioned that they were 1 of the last 4 playing last season, along with the 10 game win streak.

I dont think we will rush L'Heureux up but Foudy could definitely get a 2nd look at the end of the season along with Afanaseyev. At this point, im more than ready to give them Gurianov back.

Maybe we acquire a couple vet AHL depth guys in the process like last year to shore things up down there to replace some depth guys as we bring guys up.

Sounds like Keaton Thompson has left the Ads to go play in Germany. Considering we have an overabundance of D in the system now, it's not too surprising that he became somewhat surplus this year, although he has generally filled in well enough when called upon in the last couple of seasons? Anyway, he was only on an AHL contract, hence his ability to seek greener pastures. All the best to him.
