Kemell's putting up the assists but seems to be very snakebitten on the PP. Only 1 PP goal this year and that was a month ago. Once he gets going on the PP, he will start getting his goals. The PP is where he shines.
His shooting% is down this year (almost half of what it was last season). Sitting at 9% now vs about 18% during his trial at the end of the year. I think he likely ends up somewhere between those two for his career but he will have goal scoring droughts. It is great that he can still produce some points even when he isnt getting goals though

I'd be willing to bet he is a known commodity on the power play and teams are taking away his time and space to get free for that howitzer he's got. It's a good thing for him to be forced to create other ways to score and if he does that teams will have to decide what they will take away.

The opposing teams are trying to prevent him from getting clean passes and blocking his shooting lane every time he’s on the ice for the PP. I haven’t watched a single game where the opposing team isn’t focused on his one timer PP or 5v5.
He’s just 19 this season, he’ll figure it out.

When do we start using the "R word"? (Or have we already... I've lost track)... :sarcasm:

The opponents also do that during even strength.

Afanasyev has to be on the short list if there is a forward call up. He's scoring at a pretty strong clip this season and seems to be getting his shot off faster.

Edit: Kemell is 2nd in rookie scoring for 2022 draftees behind Lambert but he's younger by about 5 months. Good perspective when we talk about success for these young guys.

Speaking of perspective. Schaeffer turned 20 JUST as AHL camp was startling. I didn't know if qualified under the 20 year old age rule. So, he's not just a kid, he like a baby

Afanasyev is having a great year. If he’s not Smith or Sherwood’s replacement for next season, it’ll be a shame.

He will require waivers next season so he should atleast get a prolonged look. He has a good frame and production wise seems to be tracking similar to Trenin (at a glance age for age).

This could be similar to Trenin's breakout year 19-20 for Afanaseyev. Trenin was 22/23 got 20G 15A 35P in 32 Games in the AHL and earned a NHL spot. Prior AHL season 14G 19A 33P in 74 games. Afanaseyev is 22/23 has 12G 6A 18P in 23 games. Prior season 13G 13A 26P in 57 games.

I'd never ask for any injuries, but I'll say we've been remarkably healthy for our winger group so far this year. I expect Egor will get his chance at some point as I can't see it lasting the entire year.

Could have been called up instead of Jankowski. But, probably wasn't a good time to introduce another inexperienced young player.
Jankowski was the logical choice in that particular situation due to him being able to play center if needed imo. Although I wouldn’t have been disappointed if it would have been Afanasyev

I think it's really valuable for Afanaseyev to have this "final ELC season" being a big star and scoring a lot. I don't want him to just be a 4th line plug, which he has already demonstrated he has been ready for. Getting that confidence in scoring situations and putting up some numbers with the Ads is more important than anything he's going to bring to the big team atm.

I don’t even have much of a problem with the tryout we gave Fagemo or giving Foudy a tryout. Giving Foudy 12 games was a bit much though when it was pretty clear why CBJ waived him after the first few games.
Isnt there a rule about having to hold onto the player for so long before rewaiving them if you wish to retain contractual control?

With guys in their situation the Preds weren't really worried about retaining control. They gave them a look, they didn't think they had it so they moved on. We have enough backlog in the pipes already to waste it on guys multiple teams have decided isn't very good.

Anybody make it to the Ads game tonight? Can you explain what the cellphone lights before the game was all about? There was no sound on the AHLtv broadcast
