I think that the Organization wants the team to be more competitive this year. You don't do that by trading one of the top 3 current forwards on the team for a late 1st round that has a 50% chance of a NHL career that might start in 2030'ish. What does it say to Berard if you trade one of the guys currently contributing?Those teams all could have had Donato at the TDL and none of them valued him enough to push Chicago to trade him.
The vast majority of teams will have cap space and looking for a forward upgrade.
