Those teams all could have had Donato at the TDL and none of them valued him enough to push Chicago to trade him.
I think that the Organization wants the team to be more competitive this year. You don't do that by trading one of the top 3 current forwards on the team for a late 1st round that has a 50% chance of a NHL career that might start in 2030'ish. What does it say to Berard if you trade one of the guys currently contributing?

The vast majority of teams will have cap space and looking for a forward upgrade.

There's 20 games left in the season. Donato's been here all year and their in 2nd last place.

I think if CHI had been offered a 1st, they would have jumped at it. I don't think the market was there for Donato, by all accounts. The point of getting the 1st round pick wouldn't even have been to use it on a player at that spot, it likely would have been to add to a deal to move up or use it in a trade to acquire a good player.

Bedard knows what this is I'm sure. He grew up a hockey fan. He knows what a rebuild is. He knows what the roster is. Most of the players on the team right now aren't going to be here in 3 years.

You didn’t answer my question. How did it paint him into the corner? It didn’t.

If you don’t understand the difference between the Blackhawks and the Arizona f**king Coyotes I don’t think there is much point in engaging you.
I don't know difference between Arizona and Chicago, I was in believe that players liked Arizona city and team but team didn't have money to win when salaries started go up.

I find it hilarious how many people think “we don’t need anymore draft picks” it’s like they weren’t paying attention over the past couple of weeks and didn’t notice that you are actually allowed to trade them for players or perhaps bundle a couple picks to move higher in the draft to select higher end prospects.

At the end of the day if quality offers weren’t there for Donato I have no problem keeping him, it will suck if he walks as a FA and they get nothing for the asset however, Davidson needs to set his price and stick to it otherwise other GMs will learn you can just wait him out because eventually he will cave.
