That's all good and well, and I don't think anyone here would fault them for that path. But at some point with increased ticket prices every year and a subpar product on the ice, you have to be "committed" to the current team. His job as GM is not just to build for the future but also put the best product for the now. I think he has lost sight of that and us as fans or for you that are season ticket holders should continue to let the Bruins know it. If you are a current player on the team and you hear that from your GM I would imagine your a little pissed. He has left the players out to dry for two seasons with the mindset of the future. When is he going to step in and build this team properly to be the best possible product for paying patrons?

So Sweeney Neely & C Jacobs in it for long term

Claude on hot seat to win which explains his decision to panic and go with Liles over Colin Miller

All clear now

Me too but I`m not sure that`s part of his game? Julien insulated his minutes a bit over the last few weeks, I think moving him down to the 5/6 pairing and what I loved about Carlo was his response, and for my money, I would bet Hamilton wouldn`t have either understood why he was being pushed down the depth chart nor respond the way Carlo has

We as fans, along with an NHL Team (in development) MUST be patient with young guys on the Blueline. Such a tough position. They don't mature and stabilize until 25 on average. When you advance a young guy, you have to do it with that allowance.

Ottawa is going through the exact issue with Codi Ceci right now, and if they aren't patient, it'll be another team (and their fans) that will be enjoying his prime.

Carlo will have his ups and downs. Allow for it.

What a dumpster fire they have going on Causeway.:rant::rant::rant::rant:
I am one of Clodes biggest haters, but when I hear the complete lack of support from upper mngmt to make this current team better it just puts a real sour taste in my mouth.

It's not a matter of patience, the half-in/half-out approach is not a good one. It breeds frustration among the fans and makes the FO look incompetent. If they want to focus on drafting and development that's fine, I'm on board, but make that the priority and make it clear to the fans that's the priority. Being honest with the fan base makes us more understanding. Trying to bamboozle fans into thinking they're contenders with this half assed approach does not.

I have minimal patience when they want to charge and arm and a leg to go see a team that was put together half assed. They can't keep acting like they are this elite franchise that always wins and can charge whatever they want. If the future is the way to go fine, but the future doesn't demand the 2nd highest ticket prices and highest parking prices in the league. The future doesn't demand stringing fans along that they are trying to win now, when we all know they're not. You don't sign Marchand and Bergeron and Krejci to long term deals only to tell them now that the "future" is what your really committed to and they'll just have to go along for the ride until the team get's better. It's a discourtesy to everyone that puts that jersey on. Like I said before it's about balance, and Sweeney has been horrid so far at striking that balance.

Actually, they can. Because people are willing to pay. When they won't pay anymore things will change. But making a winning team isn't just a matter of willing it. Maybe the B's will miss the playoffs 5 years in row. Maybe prices will have to come down. We'll see.

I don't think they ever said they were against making this team better. But people hear what they want.

Boston isn't Columbus or Phoenix. Half in half out is the best you can get from a big US hockey market when they are "rebuilding"

So why keep a coach that's in direct conflict with that plan? If that truly is what they're doing, they've kept a guy around who isn't doing what's best for the long term development of that youth. Case in point, Colin Miller and Joe Morrow...

Clear as mud.

On one hand they want to develop players and play them. On the other hand they expect the coach to get them to the playoffs. Cool

They were all in during the Iginla year and the players blew it. Now it's "make the playoffs" while we rebuild to minimize the financial loss.

So again where do the 30y+ vets fit into that plan and what is Sweeney going to do about that?

I heard the same excuse all summer in baseball land about the Yankees. The fan base overall was ecstatic when they sold at the deadline (and released Arod) and called up the kids. Up until that point they'd been half in half out as well and it lead to a boring baseball team that played in and lost 1 playoff game in 4 years. Even if they suck out loud in '17 plenty of us are excited to see what the kids will do. If they compete that's gravy. That's the same approach I want to see the bruins take.

The Bruins have invested a lot in core veteran players who have been with the organization for some time now. They owe it to those players and the fan base to find help to improve this team now and in the near future. Of course that doesn't mean selling away future assets you're confident in and who are part of the "plan". With that being said if the Bruins were just in it to draft and build for the future they would move their biggest assets now, and before their "value" declines. I have it on good authority the Bruins are trying to balance the two, find help to make the current team more competitive with keeping the future in mind. Obviously the problem is that you have to give up something of "value" in-order to get something of "value" in return and what the Bruins need is a potential top line or second line 30 goal scorer - so you're going to have to give up some significant "value" in order to get one. In regards to players like Landeskog the Avs are in the driver's seat. They can hold on to Landeskog and wait until a team overpays or until a team becomes desperate. There is no reason why the Avs need to trade Landeskog, he could potentially also fit it the Avs "plans", but of course what exactly are those plans is the unknown. The Avs know they can potentially get a team to overpay for players like Landeskog and Duchene, so they are smart to put their names out there.

The Bruins last I looked weren't the 1974 Caps.

The 30+ year old vets are 30 Krejci 31 Bergeron 32 Backes

Recchi was 43 and Jagr 110.

They aren't really old

Two freaks of nature, and highly skilled offensive players. Nothing IMO like the players on the current Bruins roster - well maybe exception Chara, but then again maybe not....

Are/Were those guys you build around at that point or support players?

The franchise C turns 32y this offseason and Backes 33y.
While you say the plan is to have a top pairing of Lauzon- McAvoy who have 0 NHL game experience compined. That sounds great.

I just don't believe this is true. You can say it all day, but it doesn't jive with the actions. Don't get me wrong, I think Sweeney leans heavily that way as he seems to be good at development and not good at acquiring NHL talent, but they are not "all in".

Teams that are all in on drafting and developing don't sign David Backes types to long term deals. Nor do they sign McQuaid and Kevan Miller and give them ice when they have multiple young dmen they could break in. They are trying to draft, develop, and make the playoffs. That's a fine (difficult for anyone let alone these two) strategy, but it's not "all in" by any definition.
