Speculation: Domi Mega Thread

Small candid question to EDM fans because I don't see enough EDM games to have a clear answer by myself so please consider this as an honest question and not a provocation : if he truly is a top 4D, why is Klefbom only displaying widely negative +/- while Nurse and Larsson are not ?

There's a few reasons.

Klefbom plays more than Nurse and a lot more than Larsson.

He plays on the powerplay which allowed 10 SHGA. That's an easy -10.

Nurse also had our best young D Ethan Bear as a partner, which helped him a lot. Klefbom got "whatever was left" in a broken Adam Larsson who had back issues all year, or Kris Russell playing his off side.

Finally Nurse played 630 even strength minutes with McDavid and 557 with Draisaitl. Klefbom had 446 with Draisaitl and 330 with McDavid, so Klefbom had more time with the dregs of the roster.

Summing up: Klef -10 from SHGA, played less with the elites, had a worse partner, and spent more time with the ass end of the roster than Nurse did.

Betting on Broberg or Bouchard to be a top pairing defenseman next year is a recipe for disaster much like trading your best defenseman to replace him with a rookie is a disaster.

it’s a terrible deal for the Habs. Do I think MB would be interested in Klefbom sure with an extension but not at the additional expense.

I don't entirely disagree, but Bear also started to show some holes as the season wore on. Unless a deal is made to find a defenseman that actually pushes everyone down the ladder to where they should be playing I think we're just doing the same old Oiler thing.

Nurse will do as a fill in for a few games but isn't a top pairing guy. He has got to get some dumb mistakes out of his game before that happens. Still a good #3 guy though.

I don't have it wrong. Klefbom for 3 years is not the type of return I want for the 25 year old Domi who can be locked up for 6+ years. You are ignoring it from my Habs perspective and way to sensitive on Klefbom. This is about strategy and asset control while the Habs insert more and more kids moving forward. I rather trade a 2nd and two 4th for Leddy before I trade our best trade chip in Domi for 3 years of Klefbom. Klefbom > Leddy but in terms of bang for buck and what we give to get? I would take Leddy's 2 years left for sure

Player for player ignoring age and team control, it's a decent debate. But I am not after a 3 year contract if I trade Domi. Sorry bud

Klefbom played 25 minutes a night during the regular season, he's our #1.

I'd consider Nurse for Domi but moving Klefbom makes zero sense.

People seems to forget Seattle draft. Habs can't get a new defenseman for next year, they already have to protect Weber, Chiariot and Petry (he will be resign before that).

It make no sense to just get another D-man and losing him for nothing (the equivalent of lising Domi for nothing here)

I assure you you're gonna want to protect Klefbom over Ben Chiarot in the unlikely event you somehow got him from us.
