You all will never convince me to not love Trouba.
Same. I have never been more wrong about a player. I didn't want him. Now, despite his contract, he is an absolute favorite of mine.
He's looked like a 40 point middle sixer who is being forced into action on a top line with linemates who out talent him and he's just happy not to muck it up.

Fine is an apt word.

We need our second overall pick to be elite. To be Aleksander Barkov. Or at least, like, Andre Svechnikov.
We don't need Kakko to be Barkov to win the cup. Absurd.

Rangers could look better, but they're still obviously putting the pieces together. Generally have liked what I see but things are just a touch off which makes getting those goals or defending at times tougher than it should be or hopefully will be
Unfortunately the best tic tac toe passing play that I've seen in years was negated last game. absolutely beautiful Laffy putting himself offsides was inevitable it seemed.
If we can integrate those type of plays........or just make it happen, well that would be exciting to watch. Pure offensive power.

Sure, the kids aren't scoring again, but first of all, Lafreniere should have 3 points.

He was robbed of an assist in Buffalo because f*** you it's a road game. That play was no different from Kakko's assist last night and it's an assist at MSG. The offside in Columbus was obviously a close call.

I don't hate the way the kids are playing. You can't measure anything over 3 games but points are the worst because points are random. You create looks and you ultimately have no control over which looks get the bounce. Perfect example above.

See where it's at after 20, 25 games. And even then, if the team is playing well, leave it alone. If Panarin is on his game, we have a star winger. It's a long-term issue and this is the team we have right now.

The one thing I wouldn't do is f*** with the lines when the top 9 has been effective, or even, God forbid, put them back together on the stupid f***ing Kid Line which definitely doesn't produce points over large samples.

Some people are here just for the points. And points from kids. They don't care about anything else. It's an incredibly myopic existence.

On a completely different note, @HockeyBasedNYC are you feeling better about yourself today?

On the couple of shifts that Fox missed, Gus took the spot and was f***ing dynamic.

The 60 minute effort complaints might be the dumbest in all of sports. The other team has professionals too. Are you really expecting the team to outplay the other team for the entire game?
It might be the dumbest thing in sports becasue you don't understand what it means. It means to give a consistent effort throughout the game, not sag to really low levels during which basic plays become hard, the opposition outworks you and you generally are lagging behind your opponent in both execution and mental sharpness.

It does not mean you play better than the opponent for all 60 minutes.

The Rangers had a number of instances last night where they appeared to go asleep and this core has been guilty of that throughout their time together.

Through 3 games NYR sit 2nd in the NHL in xGF%. Last year they were top 5 ish with Laf/Kakko in the top 6 to start the year. It is not a coincidence that the team is actually good when they keep Goodrow as far as possible from the top 9. Next step is the press box!

Sometimes when the other team plays well it looks like you're not giving an effort. I would love you to point out insurances where you thought the team played hard when they were getting outplayed.

I don't think anyone can get on this team for not putting forward a "60 minute effort" when the refs are handing out PP's to their opponent like they're f***ing candy and on a second look, Goodrow shouldn't have been whistled for the PS either. Anyone else realize that they weren't really "wow'ed" by anyone in last night's game? Thats because they spent a decent amount of time on the PK 40 minutes into the game. There are a bunch of guys who don't play in those situations and it completely wrecks the rhythm and flow of the game for them.

These refs were complete and utter ass last night and the Rangers held it together and still won against a team that is honestly not that bad. Thats way more impressive than the mythical "60 minute effort."
felt like teh coyotes started going down all over the ice in the third period especially last night. eitehr the rangers were getting very trip happy or someones were trying to draw some penalties

and I don't agree with your assessment

What Kakko actually looks like is the best complement Mika & Kreider have had on their RW since Buchnevich. If Kakko is playing well, why should we care about points? More points means we have to pay him more this summer. This isnt fantasy hockey

Yotes were diving all game. Nothing new with guys like Zucker, Dumba, Keller, etc.

Yep, he’s already an excellent two way player (like buch) and that’s before getting any extended top 6 playing time to allow him to actually take the next step.

Kreide-Zib-Kakko was by far the best line the team iced last year so logically Gallant went away from it. Statistically they were one of the best lines in the NHL in xGF% and offensive generation

4th line is still a problem.

Panarin has been our best forward.

Zibs onetimer is still mid.
I haven't always been Pan's biggest fan the last couple of years, but he's earning his salary this year (yes I know it's just three games.) If he keeps this up I don't see us having any drama about making the post season... and if he keeps it up THEN... this team can make some noise.

Thats main risk you run with Kakko not scoring is that Laviolette might do the same thing and mix up the lines to try and change the puck luck at some point too. It's exactly what happened last year with Gallant. Mika-Kreider-Kakko started the year as an xGF% beast, but after 12 games Kakko had 3 points while Mika and Kreider were near ppg because of special teams.

If the lines are changed and it works, where Wheeler or someone is moved up and they have two or three good games where they score a bunch, Kakko is back to being a 3rd liner the rest of the year.

The problem is that moving Kakko off that line has never really helped and it definitely makes the line worse.

At one point, Gallant was sending out the worst possible permutation he could and he was just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ because giving the vets more minutes is a self-fulfilling prophecy even if the team plays worse.

He's been fine but too much perimeter BS from the Cock. some people get enamored with his stoping and starting and agility along the boards but lots of times it's just flash.

drive hard to the net while shielding the puck with your big body once in a while, or cut to the middle and find a passing option to more dangerous ice rather than just staying perimeter and cycling it to the point etc.

If Kakko puts up 30 points again on a line that has a 60+% xGF. keep f***ing playing that line! I don't care.

Maybe figure out another fix, but like I said, playing him with not Kreider and not Zibanejad won't help him score more anyway. Common sense.

Yeah plus it's been 3 games and its not like they aren't creating any chances.

Theres no reason to touch anything in the top 9 to this point. All of the lines are working.
