Well, his other flaw is he doesn't understand goalies, doesn't put proper value on building a blueline with size, drafts a lot of project players who can't be promoted and used in support roles to help his core, spends too much on forwards, specifically on the wrong mix of forwards, seems unusually attracted to "Swiss Army Knife" forwards who don't hit, playmaker or score, and promotes prospects in a poorly thought out throw them into the fire type style,

Other than that he seems to be learning the playoff game, gets some good mileage out his Moneyball guys and seems to have found something nice in Knies.
I think Dubas did look at skill over anything else in draft until recently. And he had a tendency to look at Swiss army Knife players more than anything but think this TDL changed.
He will probably start looking at players who uses their size and speed more than just guys who skate well.

Labeling everything you don't understand as "voodoo" is a very self serving world view and I'd expect more insight from a front office with the resources it has.

Its moreso that there is extreme variance, so signing any long-term goalie is anchoring yourself. You still have to go find good goalies. They found Samsonov this year and he won them their first series in 19 years and for the first time in this era outplayed the other team's goalie (who is going to be a HOF).

The alternative is what on the goaltending front? Like I don't know what you want him to do with the goaltending is my point, he limits the risk, and keeps them cheap. Other teams sign guys long-term and then get stuck.

you can get less than 0 goals in 5 games?

nailed it

How tight are they? Legit question as other than the sweetheart contracts and never criticizing anything I don't really have a frame of reference for Kyle and the big 3 since the promise to Willie.

I think the players love Kyle. Not only did he make them rich, but it seems like he really takes pride in making sure the players feel welcomed and taken care of.

Every former leaf that leaves talks about how much they’ve enjoyed their experience under Kyle. I think they respect his vision for the team. That being said just because the players do love him, doesn’t mean the leafs shouldn’t explore changes.

To be honest, I don’t even think it’s going to be up to MLSE. I think Kyle walks and takes on the Pittsburgh job. As great as Matthews is, working with an elite player in Crosby and helping him get 1 more before he retires could be an intriguing task. It’s not like Pittsburgh missed the playoffs but 20 points:l. They were right there.

Moving forward i'm speaking. You know - its about trying to assemble the best team to win next year and beyond. Matthews had 5 vs Tampa.

I'd bet moving forward he scores more in the playoffs than most guys you'd be able to feasibly replace him with.

I don't need a lecturing about "anchoring yourself to a goalie" from the regime that brought us Petr Mrazek one year and then went out of its way to get us Matt Murray.

Imagine you ran a company that had a critical department that you were ignorant to, claimed to be ignorant about, and just went with cheap random solutions en route to failure every year. How acceptable is that?

On his next team………..in the Soo

Of course i'm biased, but I don't think Tkachuk as very good after game one honestly. Not the way people have been talking about him.
We’re all frustrated today. It’s been a tough 7 years looking at the playoffs. For me I just wish this guys showed some emotion after defeat. Will be intersting to see the post season interviews

Why do you think the replacement for Matthews would get less goals. There are many many players in the league that have way more goals them Matthews in the playoffs

Shanny might have another bullet remaining. No idea who is out there but I am certainly not picking another rookie.

Shanny's personal dilemma now is to bring in a seasoned hockey executive who can bring solutions to the table to improve on what Dubas has done. All fine. But in doing so will likely create a hero at the executive level who will be a threat to his presidency. Because if that guy does his job, he's going to have some major clout in the boardroom. Not any of our problem, but this is often how MLSE powerplays work out.

Mrazek was moved off of for sliding down less than 15 spots in the draft, that's cheap in my book. Murray was given for free (actually got a pick with him) - we'll see what it costs to move off him or if they stash him on LTIR.

What is Edmonton going to do with Campbell? They can't move him, they're screwed.

Its the reality of the league is the problem. There are - what - 5 goalies that are consistently good each year? That doesn't mean you roll the dice every time. It just means you can't go crazy and lock yourself into term with a bad one.

Samsonov was good, I suspect they'll sign him. Samsonov/Woll seems like a fine tandem to me, what is the solution othewise?

That is why some of them must go. They might think they do but they do not care enough to be winners

Larry T seems like a guy who genuinely wants to win championships. He seemed happy as a pig in shit when the Raps won. I don't think he is content with the 6 playoff home dates Shanny got them this year. But I don't know if he is the one who makes the decision on Shanahan. I don't know is his direct boss.

In the running for the Hart, not Selke and has willed his team past the #1 and #2 seeds in the Atlantic and into the ECF. All this in his first year in Florida and for 9.5m.
Hart, yes. Don’t think he willed his team, it was more Bob making big saves and they got clutch scoring while our top guys didn’t.

You can try to predict the future using the past, and you should - at least to a point.

But I'd bet the guy who has the most goals since entering the league is probably going to score more moving forward than his replacement.

I'd trade Marner - I genuinely don't think his skills translate in the playoffs, but I'd keep AM34.

At this point I would just like to ask that the Management group that has been feeding us this line of crap about " No Excuses , Taking Personal Responsibility and Holding Ones Self Accountable " please spare us the annual excuses , take responsibility and be accountable for their failures by packing their bags and GTFO of town . Why haven't they resigned if this is what they preach ?
