Looks like I drank the Kool-Aid.

Then, whose idea was it to trade for Kwame Brown to begin with? :shakehead

That trade denial by the NBA actually hurt the league, PR-wise, in the long run more than it did hurt the Lakers, especially when the Lakers have a worldwide mystique like the Yankees do.

Also, what was Jim thinking when he hired "literally no defense" D'Antoni? Byron Scott is the most appropriate candidate and he went to the NBA Finals before.

Phil Jackson actually prompted the trade FOR Kwame, remember he was gone for that one year when Rudy T took over as coach, started drinking again under the pressure (allegedly) and quit like 1/2 way through the season (retained as a scout though). When Phil came back the next year he needed a center and suggested he could unlock the secret that was Kwame Brown (traded a pick and Caron Butler).

All reports show that Jim and Mitch approached Phil after they Fired Mike Brown, but Jerry Buss on his death bed (and Kobe's endorsement of D'antoni's offense) convinced Mitch and Jim to hire Mike D.

Byron Scott is a Laker, and may very well be the next coach but there are serious doubts about his coaching ability. For example he did goto the finals twice but that was with Eddie Jordan as his main asst coach...the same Eddie Jordan that Mike Brown brought in to teach the Princeton Offense in LA that lasted about 10 games until all those coaches were fired.

Isaiah Thomas
Kobe
Melo
Randle
Pau?

Not getting past any top 5 team in the west.

Kobe took Kwame/Luke Walton/Smush Parker to the playoffs...all reports are that Kobe looks refreshed and legs are feeling great, the team you put down could get hot and do damage...all depends on health, who will coach them, and what other moves they can put around those guys.

Lets not forget Kevin Love still rumored to want to come to LA, Kevin Durant contract is up same year as Kobe's...the Lakers are in great shape imo.

Durant and Love would be interesting...

Does anyone think that the lakers can be a playoff team within the next 4-5 years? I'm sure they won't have problem attracting FAs here, but the lakers are going to be a borderline playoff team imo. Where did this franchise go so wrong?

We can only hope but all I'm gonna say is it's gonna be a veeeeery long time before we see another title from the Lakers!

Watching LeBron Center this morning the same thought crossed my mind. I hope I'm wrong, but Kobe may never win another championship.

Donald Sterling says he's fighting Clippers sale not for his ego but because he thinks he can get more $ in TV and radio rights.

Donald Sterling says he will get $9 billion in his antitrust suit against the NBA. "Be patient for another 2 years."

This guy is totally crazy.

Beckett to the DL. They call up some guy named Pedro Baez. I'm not sure why the front office keeps ****ing around with journeymen when we have two prospects waiting in the wings in Joc and Lee. Shouldn't Lee be developing his stuff with the big club instead of being ruined in Querque?

so do you guys think the lakers have melo as a done deal? i'm hoping so as much as possible.

Oh hell no. I don't believe anything until the papers are signed. I think Melo will stay in NYC and LeBron will stay in Miami. I'm a lifelong Lakers fan (30+ years) and I totally think they're going to strike out on everyone this offseason. They've painted themselves into this corner (with the help of Stern vetoing the CP3 deal) and the reality is lean years are ahead.

Well, Joc is hurt, and striking out way too much anyway.

No not a done deal but i would say they are right there in the running. If he signs elsewhere the usual doom and gloomers will point to it as another failure of the front office but you cant play the game if you are not on the field and the Lakers, amid all the turmoil of the last couple years, had the cap space ready for this and the next few big agent seasons when very few others did.

People like to bash the Kobe contract extension but I think it is exactly how they can pry a player away under the new CBA. Home team can always offer that extra 5th year but the Lakers have shown they take care of their star players so that 5th year becomes less of a factor if a guy like Carmelo, Lebron, Durant in 2016, or whoever feels confident they will be taken care of if they make the jump.

If LBJ does go back to CLE, I'm actually disappointed that it would take the maximum for him to go back. I mean, after he gave his word on staying in CLE and changing his mind and leaving for MIA, you'd think he'd have a conscience and give them a discount.
