Post-Game Talk: Dobby's first loss. Montreal loses to Devils, falls in PO race.

Matheson could have played that better, but yeah, he was put in a bad spot too.

But you have been around here long enough to know the drill regarding Matheson.
It’s unreal man. Odd man rush and Laine makes that pass? What the hell was he thinking?

The camera following him around after was actually pretty hilarious too. It might as well have had a graphic with an arrow pointing at him saying: “It’s THIS guy’s fault.”

No it wasn't.

He didn't expect Matheson to keep moving forward when he was the last man.

Laine gave up a chance earlier cause he realized if he took the shot and missed, no one would be back.

Matheson kept floating in. Why? You're the last man. Stop f***ing moving forward.

Laine gave him a pass, he should have been stopping and receive it and then throw it right back to Laine.
It’s clearly Laine’s fault for expecting Matheson to play hockey in an efficient and logical manner.

I was hoping the 2nd period never ended. Aside from the start of the game, and the latter part of the 2nd period, the Habs were in trouble.

If we take a step back though, the holes have been apparent for over a week now, despite the win against Tampa. They need a bit of a restart.
Tonight I saw a lot of good , and a lot of what is still lacking for us to become that top team in the east .
The positive , if we read the Thé criticism, is mostly on players that won’t be there next year or when we contending .
Our core locked good and dug deep for a point even if they were gazed. All that experience playing meaningful games matter and they doing it well .
Just need more talent and we know that is on the way .

Why not? Matheson was wide open.

I mean Matheson is literally winding up his stick to take the shot, it just got screwed up:

I think we are fortunate to still have meaningful games in the end of January. Even if we don't make the PO, this season was fun and a success.

I'm frustrated but not mad.
New Jersey is a legitimate Stanley Cup team. They came at us with speed and more speed. We couldn’t cope and spent most of the last 15 minutes in our zone, trap and flailing.

Jack Hughes showed why he will be a dominant player in the upcoming 4 Nations Cup. The U.S. with a center group of Hughes, Matthews, Eichel and Larkin will be tough to beat.

Imagine if team had another Carrier and not Matheson. Kenny need to get off his hands and provide some support to his core.

I'm not a Matheson hater but I think he was partly to blame for the final misplay because of his skating angle and direction prior Laine's pass. He made the pass more difficult that it needed to be.

The way I see it, Laine read it as Matheson wanting to take a one timer close to the blue line (Matheson had his stick wound up like he was going to take a shot). That's probably Laine's own shooter instincts working against him, because if it went the opposite way, that's exactly where Laine would like to be in order to take that shot. Out in the open, hovering around the blue line. Matheson however kept gliding closer to the net, while the Devils player rushed in to take away space from Laine's pass.

If it was 5on5 that would be a nothing play, stuff like that happens, basic miscommunication, but 3on3 there's no one to cover up for the mistake. That's why people treat the whole thing as just a gimmick.

They are a legit contender. We aren’t where they’re at. But we came back really well and got a point. Second half was fun to watch. Too bad it ended as it did but as losses go, this was respectable, esp considering who we played against.

They are not really a contender at the moment. Palat and Tatar are done. They are doing nothing. meier is mediocre. Cotter and Noesen are 3rd liners playing well over their head. They have bratt and Mercer who they won't use. They need wingers at the deadline to contend. Goaltending is average. Not sure the d is good enough defensively.

It’s on Matheson. Anybody with some spatial awareness would know the pass was coming. His only option was to pass. Was the pass ideal? Who knows but Matheson should have been ready and he clearly wasn’t…again!

Right. Everyone knew a pass was coming. It was an odd man rush. And Laine had all day to make it.

So, he passed it behind the guy…

They’ve got some great players there. I’ll leave the contender debate alone but they are very clearly ahead of us. Hughes, Hisschier… some great talent coming into its prime over there.

I don't want to see f***ing matheson in the Habs uniform ever again.

I think it's time to start focusing on St Louis again - team yet again is not prepared to start the game. I hate the f***ing "tired" bullshit. They work 60-80 minutes per week... WEEK... while getting millions. In comparison normal people work 40 hours a week or more just to make ends meet, and cannot afford to just not show up. f*** that fatigue excuse. Every shift should be like their last. Instead, it takes one period to just wake up, then play decent one period and then presumably tired in the third.

You all go and toot their horn how they clawed back and got a point - yee haa!!! The team did not play for 60 minutes. Period. The only person who showed up was Dobes and he deserved a lot better that matheson bullshit in OT. I hate matheson... we such burning passion.

- Matheson is shit
- Laine looks like he has lead skates on
- The Pezzetta-Dvorak-Gallagher line is ECHL material and makes me want to pull my hair out
- Dobes is the only reason we got a point and should be the starter from now on
- First line was solid

That's all I got for tonight.
