Post-Game Talk: Dobby's first loss. Montreal loses to Devils, falls in PO race.

To use your football analogy he was going for a 10 yard pass that Laine muffed up. I hate to tell you this but in hockey, quite a few passes are made while the receiver is on the move.
Matheson's stick was behind him the entire time he was dragging it for the pass and just had to stop up when it wasn't perfect. Not only that not getting between the opponents and our net was inexcusable after the fact. The execution was piss poor on both ends of that play end of story.

Captain saying Captain things.
Not just a Suzuki thing, you hear the same from others on the team. Matheson clearly has the "can't do no wrong" shit going in that locker room. You even see Matheson dismissing critics of his play in the Grave Documentary from other players (i.e. Slaf telling him he should pass left sometimes on the PP).

And that's why Matheson continue his elite shooting into shinpads and wide of the net leading to possession loss.

This was on Marty too,why the hell did he put Laine in ot who right now is slower than dogshit ? then you add Matheson who can be a defensive liability especially when playing 3 on 3 .Not the first time he's put players in that should be nowhere near OT.

I don't agree Matheson has been a mainstay 3v3 throughout and Laine scored our last OT winner.

Managing the situation properly between the players is what has to happen.
Matheson has two choices being on his weak side either set up a target on his backhand or open up like a one timer to receive the pass. The odds of successfully completing the latter goes down significantly if the player is moving away from the pass. That's why you don't see player's moving away from one timers the movement if there is any is to take a step back.

The execution was not good but i still really feel like the problem was decisional. With one player far behind him and another player about the same level as him (outer faceoff circle) Matheson's decision to rush toward the faceoff circle was stupid. I understand why he did it. There was a clear path toward the net and he wanted to be the hero. We all did stupid plays like that while trying to be the hero couple of times in our lifre.

But that was a stupid play imo and a very risky one for really absolutely no reason. There was so much room the play was to stop where he was and wait for Laine's pass since the guy behind him was not even remotely close. Then the guy covering Laine's or the player in front of the net would have needed to pressure Matheson which would have left one player open. The guy behind the play was so far there was no need to rush a play like that. Looking at the two screenshots i posted on page 6 you can clearly see Laine is expecting Matheson to return him the puck right away for a one timer and never expected Matheson to rush like that.
