Post-Game Talk: Dobby's first loss. Montreal loses to Devils, falls in PO race.

Sometimes it feels like people don't even watch the games when you watch their commentary. Or they just focus on one player's failures. It doesn't matter if a player makes ten good decisions and one bad one, because that bad one is just remembered and that's it.

All lines had problems in their own end. The 1st line made the goals of their chances. But I think the 2nd line created good chances for most of the game, but couldn't finish them. Their biggest problem is that they don't win the faceoffs.

As for overtime, those situations just happen sometimes. Matherson misread the situation. Laine wouldn't have been able to pass safely where he was going because the defender was in front of him.
Misread the situation? He's the defenseman.. he misreads playing defense a lot.

I stick up for him a lot. That is not a play where I can because that's COMMON SENSE. You're the last player - stop moving forward. Laine literally passed up a shooting chance just moments before because he was the last man and didn't want to give up a rush the other way.

Matheson though? Who cares guys, I'll win this! lol

Take him for an idiot or someone who knows what he's talking about but yesterday Stephane Waite at Antichambre said opposite teams takes CH seriously. Of course it wasn't the case a month ago. That mean they studied how the score in PP, how the team works in general, line per line. Is that explains why Laine doesn't score anymore in PP and the fact the team got 1 pt out of 4 last 2 games?

Why not now? I don't understand why matheson is so irreplaceable. Besides being a total disaster on defense and costing games he also brings nothing offensively? When was the last time he shot got through? He is like gomez or newhook... skates, skates, skates, and then... turnover. St Louis is a moron for his blind obsession with matheson.

Sadly you're probably right. Like the stock market... the inevitable correction...
The reason why not now is simple, upgrades don’t grow on trees , and they. are it clear they won’t deviate from the plan.

This new fangled thing of waiting till the 2nd period or later to start playing has got to stop for any chance of success. Can't have Laine in overtime .Besides the turnovers he is just way too slow
He is far from fast........but he scored an OT winner just last time we played..............that play was all on a tired Matheson.......watch the replay, MM was toast.

You are bang on about the narrative if Montreal won the 3 on 3 competition. It's funny how much the narrative shift hinges on 3 on 3 play.

The Habs had some fleeting moments where they looked like they were going to break through. As I mentioned before, the end of the 2nd period particularly came just in time for new jersey because the habs were coming in waves and it looked to be a matter of time before they cash at least once.

But the Devils certainly carried the play for most of the game.

I don't think anyone would genuinely contest that the Habs are not on the right path at this point, but the issue is once you get a taste of winning, it's hard to let it go so it gets hard to distinguish the forest from the trees.
Most winning teams are good teams but luck plays a part in it as much as skill, we lost another OT game the other day, I think it was against the Stars in Montreal(not really sure) and minutes before the loss Caufield hit the post. A few centimeters to the right and it was our win, that's just how it goes sometimes.

We need some more talent, no one would dispute that. We have been winning with a strong effort from the whole team and some consistent production from players not known for having a big impact scoring goals. Jake Evans is getting many of the same chances he did 2 weeks ago but the shots aren't going in like they did and it affects the overall result. The loss of Heineman has created a hole as well and as of right now, there hasn't been a good replacement.

The upcoming break will be good for a team that has played some very hard games in the last month. I would be okay with a depth trade by Hughes and we have the capital to do so. It is fun to watch the team again which is what we all want.

He just tries to do too much.. has he always been that slow?

I'd never exactly describe him as fast, but he has certainly been faster. Usually on 3on3 he'd use the open ice to build up to a decent speed, but now he looked pretty much stuck in mud during the OT. I'm guessing he was just gassed playing against a fast-skating team like the Devils.

To be fair, even Matheson looked pretty slow and exhausted by the end even though we know he's fast, way faster than Laine for sure.

At the end of the day, they just weren't the right guys to be on the ice at that time. The first line was the hot hand and I probably would've over-played that hand myself.

Dach may be our most important player right now. We desperately need a 2C for obvious reasons but also importantly with bringing out the best in Laine and Demidov. Laine wont stay and we wont attract anybody if we have a low end 2C. If Dach can be that guy then our only real possible hole is at D. And if we don't have to spend assets for a 2C, we have lots of assets to fill that hole with a high quality player if we want.

I'm really pulling for Dach.
Laine is a one dimensional player. I doubt they re-sign him.

Nice move by smarty to put Matheson & Laine in ot :badidea:either way we didn't even deserve a point, back to our bad habits, now teams can start NOT taking us seriously again :sueme:
