Do you like this team?

Bang on. No optimism allowed, it's just hopium. For me, I think this is the best team since the last cup win.

And the other bizarre trait I see constantly is trying to fix a team that has gone 25-4-3 except for a ridiculous 1-6 run where there were significant injuries to nearly 1/3 of the roster (Matthews, Muzzin, Andersen, Campbell, Thornton, Simmonds).

Are people really trying to "fix" the team? Mostly I see people talking about adding this or that which is always a source of discussion as we approach the TDL (even if I think we're fine as it is, depending on goaltending).

edit - hopium is a cool term, haven't heard that one before

I do see a few people still trying to "fix" our "toughness" issue by trading top-6 roster players for fringey types. I agree completely that they can and should be about adding to what is here and addressing any areas that may feel the need to. Those types of players can usually be added without sacrificing too much.

Hahahaha....yeah, saw some mention that the Leafs are "merely selling hopium" with the way they are playing........stolen.

I'm honestly kind of glad Nashville picked it up and is back in the playoff picture because it would have sucked to see them sell off and trade Ekholm to Winnipeg.

I hadn't thought of that but good point, that would have indeed sucked for us!

Yikes, yeah I wouldn't do that. I have to admit, I too worry sometimes about toughness but I think we're a lot better off in that regard than we have been in a while.

Hopium is a great one. I like the way we're playing just fine but at the same time, there will be skeptical people until we at least win a round and I get where they're coming from. In fact if we lose again in the 1st round, I may well join their club next season.

My most basic analysis is that against this division so far I haven't seen many games where I have noticed our opponents bottom six. There has been like three games tops where our opponents have had all of their lines rolling.

On the other hand with the Leafs this year it has almost been non existent that at least one of our bottom lines have created and produced. Their has been most games where I feel all lines have created great chances and produced.

I've wanted greenway from Minnesota on the leafs for the past 3 years. I'd be extremely happy with this team if we could add him for our 2nd or 3rd line and leave Hyman on the 1st. But with his performance this year, the wild aren't likely to trade him. Atleast not for a reasonable cost.

I really enjoyed Simmonds sending a message to Lucic yesterday - put a smile on this old face. lol

It's really a strange year....I could foresee a run because it appears there is a clear path to the semi's at the very least. Shrewd pickups at the deadline will be key, I believe they may need some G insurance as it's too much to ask Hutch to carry the load should that become necessary (god forbid).

Read this thread and find out, since you don't remember it apparently.

I don't care that much TBH but if you want to direct my attention to a specific posts where people "are adamant that other people shouldn't enjoy the season", I'll be happy to take a look.

If goaltending is a problem then IMHO, we should do everything we possibly can to fix it even to the point of overpaying to a certain extent. Everything else is nowhere near as important, I like our team as it is. I don't mind adding something if the cost isn't too high but my mantra is make sure the goaltending situation is good, if we don't have that then everything else is pointless.

Simmonds is awesome and he's a huge part of why I'm less concerned about toughness then I have been in the past. He was so good before getting injured, I have faith that he will get to that level again in plenty of time to be a big factor for us in the playoffs. I just hope he stays healthy.

How many people do you think there are here that like Zeke said, are "adamant that we shouldn't enjoy watching our team."

There may be some people that for whatever reason aren't enjoying the season. However, I myself haven't noticed one single person say that others "shouldn't" enjoy it, much less be adamant about it.

Sometimes Zeke likes to make things up just to stir up shit, I suspect this is just another entry on that list.

I love watching the Leafs but they drive me crazy sometimes like last night, up 3-2 and on the PP, what a slap in the face it was that the Flames score the shorty to tie the game. But then we come right back with our first PP in 11 games.

I'm so happy that our stars have found their way back on the scoreboard but I would now love it if they could dominate like the Avs are doing. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to get past the first 2 rounds, look at our records against the 3 other teams that will be in the playoffs:

Against the Habs: 3-1-0
Against the Oilers: 6-1-2
Against the Jets: 4-2-0

Flames: 6-2-0
Canucks: 3-2
Sens: 4-2-1

But then again, this is regular season, just ask the Lightning fans how important that is.

I think every team drives their fans crazy now and then, it's happening pretty rarely for me this season so I'm happy.

I haven't seen COL play this season but considering their record, I don't see how there's any way that they're not a fantastic team.

I fully agree we should win the first two rounds (with the usual caveat - if our goaltending holds up). I agree that regular season records against specific teams mean dick, we don't even need to ask TB fans, our history against Boston should be enough really.

Outside of two games (2nd game of season vs Ottawa and a few Saturdays ago vs Jets), the Leafs have been competitive every night. Hard not to like the effort level from this team, especially after many troubling nights last year even after Keefe took over

You forgot to mention the worst game (period) they played this season, even though they dominated the Sens in the first 2 periods by taking a 5-1 lead but then sat back from there to lose 6-5, how embarrassing that was for the Leafs and us Leaf fans.

But on a positive note about that loss is that it got them all fired up and they went on a 7-1-0 streak before the 1-6-0 streak. But I'm enjoying this new 7-0-1 streak now.

The Leafs and the Jets are the class of the division. If the Jets can add another good D man they can give the Leafs some real trouble.

that is what it looks like to me but who knows, what scares me is the Jets, Habs, and Oilers have a goalie that can legit steal a series

it is pretty amazing how many leaf fans are adamant that we shouldn't enjoy watching our team.

Sometimes I have to remind myself the team is comfortably leading the division with the amount of doom and gloom you see.

This has been the most enjoyable season of the rebuild by a fair margin

The Leafs didn't really sit back after 2 periods. The third was pretty even in terms of play, but they couldn't get a save. When you have a 5-1 lead, your goaltender needs to shut the door.

What's funny is that the Leafs came out flat the following game, but Andersen rebounded and played well. It was a gritty win in the end
