This is team is soft with not many hard and soul players. We are getting lucky to face a crappy team in the 2nd round so not expecting much after the 2nd round of playoffs.

The team looks good to me but its hard to gauge how good they really are because the division is so bad

I don't fear any team but there a several good teams out there. The most obvious is COL, the best record in the league, the best goal differential and all this playing in a tougher division than ours. What's not to like? If we do make it that far, we're going to playing a very good team in the semis.

If we go down in the 1st round again, this season will be a massive failure, agree 100% and if we go down in the second round, I guess I'd call it a huge disappointment. If that were to happen then maybe some people will be able to console themselves with the fact that our point pace after 39 games had us at 6th overall in the NHL, I'm not one of them.

I think going down in round 2 would be a failure because I think the Leafs are pretty clearly the best team in the North.

I'm expecting final 4 and have been all year from the second they signed Brodie but they have been even better than I thought.

I think if they add a couple pieces they can do it.

I grouped him into "lack of intensity of the high priced help (ie. Kessel, Bozak, etc.)" category because over his last Leaf contract Bozak was one of the highest paid players on the team, always in the top 10 or higher. Here's an example:
Toronto Maple Leafs 2015-16 - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
Although I suggested he was not intense, I never suggested he was overpaid if that's what you're reading into it and I don't care what he won in St Louis.

You should care because it splashes cold water into the face of your theory. I'm actually quoting you: "high priced" is what you said.

I know there was a lot of frustration and Toronto made the post season twice with Bozak on the team. Players like Bozak and Kessel did care. They did play to a level eventually that won cups. They are not to be faulted for the lack of chemistry, or the wrong type of architecture that Burke tried to make.

I just think your theory is a simplification of what happened and the players you mentioned.

Well, luckily we don't have to gauge it, the playoffs will settle that question for everyone.

Failure, disappointment, whatever, the final four is where the bar it set. Go farther than that and the season will be a success, don't make it that far and it won't be. Make it exactly that far will fall somewhere in between I guess. IMO all that is true without us adding anything, but it also assumes that our goaltending holds up. And that's the only piece I'm concerned about. If Dubas thinks Campbell and Andersen are good enough and healthy enough to do the job, fine. But if there's reason to think they're not up to it then he better be doing his best to get us another goalie because if our netminders fail us, that's on him.

I think we are mostly if not entirely in agreement

Vegas, St.Louis, Mini are better than 90% of the teams in our division lol

St.Louis ? no. They have 3 good teams, Colorado/Vegas, Minnesota is playing well right now. St.Louis is average at best and the rest of the division is the worst in hockey.

I want to address this part of your post. It's not true. We score most of our goals from goal crease or directly in front of the net. And we also win most of our board battles. Only player that avoids physical contact along the boards is Nylander. And that is kind of ok too.

I can see what you are saying. Perhaps my points didn't come out right

Scoring from front of the net and being difficult to play against are not the same thing. I was referring to making life difficult.

We do score goals from all over. We are a high scoring team

TOR - COL
MTL - VGK
WPG - MIN
EDM - STL

Not sure I see a huge edge either way.

should be a good series, i think goal tending will be determine who wins :help: lol

I sure hope not.

Edit - I hope we can outplay them by enough to overcome their superior goaltending (assuming that's what they get). And assuming our goaltending is decent, we should be able to do that.

I'm so tired of hearing people whine about never getting the best goaltending in a series, would be so nice to win one even if the reigning Vezina winner plays great against us.

I like them a hell of a lot more than last year. They seem more committed and resilient. Hoping we see that translate to playoff success

it is pretty amazing how many leaf fans are adamant that we shouldn't enjoy watching our team.

It's literal Stockholm syndrome, IMO. After decades of failure, they became comfortable with it. Being happy or optimistic only results in disappointment and mockery from other fans, so they won't do it.

I honestly feel bad for them. We have some fantastic superstars that are tons of fun to watch, but they can't appreciate it. They're going to cry into their beer until we lift the cup, and be happy for a day, and then they'll probably just be angry again.

Sports aren't fun for these people.

How many people do you think there are here that like Zeke said, are "adamant that we shouldn't enjoy watching our team."

There may be some people that for whatever reason aren't enjoying the season. However, I myself haven't noticed one single person say that others "shouldn't" enjoy it, much less be adamant about it.

Sometimes Zeke likes to make things up just to stir up shit, I suspect this is just another entry on that list.

Bang on. No optimism allowed, it's just hopium. For me, I think this is the best team since the last cup win.

And the other bizarre trait I see constantly is trying to fix a team that has gone 25-4-3 except for a ridiculous 1-6 run where there were significant injuries to nearly 1/3 of the roster (Matthews, Muzzin, Andersen, Campbell, Thornton, Simmonds).
