Why are we, the hockey mecca of the world, hiring rookies for the most important positions on the team?

Yet some still worship at the alter of Kyle Dubas lol

Ah, the Tampa Bay model, a proven failure.

I would say that a better analogy would be that Dubas is like a guy who’s never played blackjack before and is confident he knows exactly what he’s doing (when in fact, he doesn’t) that then goes and gets absolutely taken to the cleaners at the blackjack table, pretty much as expected.

weird he got a GM job in the NHL and you got 7 likes on a HFBoard post.

you should do what the analogy would be for you in this situation. Are you the broke loser watching the table telling all your friends who can’t stand you that you would of won every hand and here’s how?

I will say it’s kinda funny how upset people get over a team that they have 0 control over. Unless you’re gambling this shouldn’t bother you so much. It’s just a game.

That’s the same logic you could use about getting excited about a win. Why stand and cheer about something that has nothing to do with you. I mean at least think it through dude, that’s one lame sentiment.

Here's the only thing that bothers me with this thread.

These two things can't be true at the same time:

1.) Do not believe in Dubas
2.) Have high expectations for the team

Straightforward why.

#2 is very true around here which is why the anger is so high. I think as far as hockey is concerned, we have one hell of a team.

The problem is mental and sorry Keefe fans, the coach. Unless you want Dubas to go back to school to become a psychiatrist I'm not sure what else he can do. You can blame him for the odd timing of Keefes extension though.

I trust him to trade Marner if Marner is a xGF-but-no-GF beast in the playoffs again (I believe he will keep the ask at a kings ransom especially with most of the $$ paid already). I like that he fixes the D, I like how he drafts and I just generally like the guy himself, he's a very good team-first person who doesn't have a stick up his ass and will give guys like Ho-Sang a second chance.

I'm more frustrated with the players and coach than I am the GM. This team shouldn't be losing. So for now I'm going with Yes. Please don't hurt me

I voted YES, because the team on paper is good enough to win playoff rounds

Does the NHL award a trophy for being good enough on paper to win playoff rounds? Did we win it last year and I somehow missed the ceremony? Are they raising a banner for that at some point now that fans are allowed back in the stands? If so, can I still get tickets to that game?

Poor dubas. All the other gms knew the pandemic was coming and just didn't tell the new kid.

As James Tanner says "the Leafs are the victims of a results oriented business" lol
we all want someone or something to blame. KD is the low hanging fruit.

not expecting to change anyone's mind on it, but since this is a forum of opinion, that's where I stand.

I'll gladly take another 5 years of Shanny/Kyle in charge. Despite the overwhelming belief on here, I really don't think they are as married to this core group as people suggest they are. As seen in the "All or Nothing" series, they are very aware of the demons these guys face in between the ears. And pairing that with their hiring of a "Peak Performance Coach" in Greg Harden, kind of further suggests they see the same elephant in the room that we do. It may prove to be too much in the end for Mitch and Auston. I am fairly confident they will make changes if this core group if they come up short once again. If they get that opportunity that is.

At the end of the day, their talent evaluation is better than any Management group before them in the Salary Cap era. I think long after KD is gone, only then will people on this board appreciate what he and Shanny have done for this club. It's obviously all speculative, but if you've followed our prospect pool for decades like I have, you would know it has never looked this promising. Despite the lack of high draft picks. That is how you sustain success. Continually stocking the pond with fresh fish. Sooner or later, we will get the right mix

Though Shanahan has been best president we had during modern era. Not so bad for rookie. He made this organization credible in few years after Burkes regiment ran us down.

Ya...I am going to pass on the Boudreau thing...the last thing this team needs is a guy who has proven to not be able to win in the playoffs. They, if anything, need a guy who has done it and done it with several teams to get the monkey off their back. The players know that management is lost right now as far as how to fix the problems...and they have very little, if any, confidence which leads to under performing.

Which coach who has won in the playoffs, preferably with more than one team, is available right now?

Sure, I believe in Dubas. I also believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy and that we can power the planet with windmills, solar panels, fairy dust, and unicorn farts.

Do not underestimate the power of unicorn farts. If they contain anywhere near the amount of gas that my dog's puppy farts do, they can solve all of our energy needs.

And the little bastard is sitting next to me right now farting as if it is his job................................

Did he or did he not ice a roster that should have won the last two play-offs rounds. That's on the players. Not Dubas.

Gladly ?? You can't be serious. Shanny has been an embarrassment most times he has spoken since kid Kyle took over and the results on the ice speak for themselves IMO.

- David Ayres game (nothing else needs to be said about this one, which I think is the most embarrassing loss not only in Toronto Maple Leafs history, not NHL history, not hockey history, but in the entire history of pro sports, period).

Too much is made of that, as if Ayres beat them himself.

He was their practice goalie so was used to seeing them. He wasn't intimidated by having those stars shoot on him because it happened damned near every day. And he only faced ten shots, which is down to Carolina playing effective defence.

Yes, it is embarrassing but a bit too much is made of it.

On a positive note, I believe I heard Canes have lost every game in Carolina Ayers has attended.

When I watched the post game news conference with Keefe I saw that he was furious, and that he knew he was out the door. I think the team has quit on him. We need to move Johnny T.

No. No. No. No.

The GM can only put together the best team they can. It's up to the players to make it work in the end. All I am saying is that this group of soft as f*** players needs to figure out if they are willing to do what it takes to win. So far the answer is a resounding no.

I've said before, Dubas overpaid Marner. Other than that he has done a pretty good job imo. Good enough? I guess not but the players have to own their part of this failure too. Changing the GM will not make this team a winner all of a sudden.

It has been a lot more than six games, and you said so yourself.

Do you not even realize that you are contradicting yourself?
There is no contradicting whatsoever. It is entirely fair to recognize the flaws in your group, and their historical production in key moments, all while understanding that there is potential for a 23 and 24 year old to continue to mature. Similar to Willy the offseason prior. I'm not saying people have to agree with that, but that was the choice that was made by this management group immediately after the season ended last year. You don't just run it back and then call it quits after 6 games. If you honestly think their plan for this year had a eject button in the first 1/10th of the season I am sorry to disappoint you, but that's not how any sports franchise operates. Certainly not any successful ones. When was the last time a 10 Million dollar player with term got dealt in season? even 8AAV? Like it or not, this is likely the club for the remainder of the year, with the exception of Mo. He could easily be dished with retention for his final year and we can begin a soft retool/rebuild at season's end. And once again, this is only if the team continues down this trajectory. There is also a very likely chance they get their shit together as well.

Hell, I had young kids / teens in my family who played organized hockey (in the GTHL, MHL, etc.) who were expected to show up before games in a suit and tie and failure to do so meant that you were not playing that night. And this was only 6-7 years ago.

We had to when I played.

The woman on HNIC tried to claim it was a good thing that will grow the game because people who are interested in their fashion choices will become hockey fans

I think Lou deserves more of the credit for turning this franchise around.

Ever since he left its been a gong show. Shanahan is still here.

How do you get to keep your job after 7 years and not 1 playoff series win? There is just no accountability.
