I think he tries. No one else better than him out there either so we should let him roll with it.
What a ringing endorsement. I think he tries so keep him lol.
Anyone can try.

To be fair, Zaitsev actually had an important job on the team.
He was the best on the Leafs in shutting down the cycle which was a big team weakness. He's doing pretty well at that in Ottawa now too.
Lou understood player roles and the jobs players need to do to compete in the playoffs.
The problem with him though was he couldn't move the puck to save his life here. And the Bruins forwards did a great job keeping the puck on his side when they were in the Leafs zone during that last playoff series.
Regardless, I believe he requested a trade anyways
Out of curiosity, what former GMs are available right now?
Except sweet Lou tried to sign Stamkos the year before and would have tried for Tavares as well. Do you really think he wasnt going to sign Tavares? The Marceau contract was easy one to fix, don’t sign taveras and give matthews and marner bridge deals, you would have loads of cap space. And since you had loads of cap space, you could afford to keep Zaitsev on the roster
He's done irreparable damage so I don't actually know where to go from here.
I had faith that the team had a direction and was developing an identity.
The further we go the more I see that there isn’t a method.
The trades we’ve made, the players we’ve signed, the effort on the ice by key members of the team.. where did we go wrong? Dubas and Shanahan jumped the gun too quickly. We had it all going right but they’ve taken the team off the rails completely.
I don’t know what the solution is but I’m terrified that Dubas is going to make a stupid trade involving another first round pick that doesn’t yield results and further prevents young talent from entering the organization.
There absolutely have been mistakes made by this current management group, but none of which would take years to fix. Unlike any of the previous regimes

If only those were the horrific deals they had now.The teams future looked so bright until he came and slowly the team has gotten worse and worse year after year with nothing to show for it.
I said it once and I'll say it again, Lou was the guy to take us further and Dubas is a scrub. Yes, he signed horrific deals with Zaitsev and Marleau but he would have found a way out.
Now we just ride it out, hope they can somehow pull it off and perhaps rebuild...again if it doesnt work.
I don't know why Zaitsev is so hated. To be fair, Zaitsev actually had an important job on the team.

I agree with most of what you wrote but Reilly has to go. He’s terrible defensively, soft and they’ll never win anything with him as their 1D.The turning point for this team was the Tavares signing. I felt it was unnecessary but had hope that it would all work out -- and so far, it seems as though that hope is pretty much gone. That signing as necessitated the jettisoning of all kinds of depth, year after year.
I really don't have any faith that Dubas can get out of this because I can't see a way to do it given the salary cap constraints. The options are (1) ride it out; (2) trade one or both of Marner and Matthews; (3) keep Marner and Matthews and wait for Tavares to have a more team-friendly buyout.
We have no cap space, no picks, and no prospects. I don't even mind the idea of tanking this year -- we can sign Rielly cheaper and maybe get a top pick on an ELC. Maybe Dubas does know what he's doing...
